Trump claims to have most effective administration since Truman. It’s another huge lie.

Donald Trump yesterday claimed that he has had the most effective first-year of any president since Truman, who held the earlier record (Trump claimed) — but now, Trump has even beat Truman!

Except it was all a lie.

Trump didn’t beat Truman. Truman didn’t hold the record — Kennedy did. And in fact, Trump has had the least effective first-year of any president, including Truman.

CNN had a great chart this morning, listing the number of bills signed in each president’s first year. Trump fared the worst:

trump first year legislative recorda

All of this might be funny if it weren’t so dangerous. The man is a pathological liar, whose words mean nothing. That’s a dangerous trait for a president of the United States, whose words can start wars. But just as troubling is the fact that Trump seems not-all-there in the head. It’s difficult to imagine someone so willing to lie so boldly about a fact that’s easily checked. Sane people tend not to do such things. Trump, on the other hand, simply doesn’t care.

And to lie with such specificity — claiming falsely that Truman held the record before him. It’s creepy and troubling.

Had this been any other administration, and in particular a Democratic administration, there would be never-ending challenges to the White House about the president’s propensity for lying. Hillary was pilloried for getting wrong some of the details of her many foreign trips; as was Al Gore for misstating parts of his record. Trump lies with every breath, and we all roll our eyes with a Reaganesque “there he goes again.”

Here’s CNN’s quick report on it, with video of Trump’s claim:

Does Trump NOT lie? I say no, Trump always lies all the time, about everything.

AND, something this chart ignores is that President Obama signed 118 in a time when Republican filibustered EVERYTHING.

Those two firemen standing beside him don’t exactly look like they believe him.

“They don’t get that the Republicans they support so blindly are the ones fucking them over. Pointing that out only gets silence from them. Nothing penetrates the bubble.”

My mother in law is in the same category. They are all beyond hope since they are impervious to reason. Their views on issues deserve silence, since facts don’t matter and argument means nothing.

According to my RWNJ brother-in-law, fake news is when a news outlet runs stories that fit their narrative. True or false matters not. That’s not what makes them “fake”. The fakeness is that the stories independently wouldn’t be enough to create an impression but do collectively. Now to me that sounds exactly like what right wing media did with Benghazi and Russia One.

Trump’s supporters exist in an alternate reality. They care not for any information that doesn’t fit their already decided narrative. Even his very good understanding of what the end of net neturality means for him. (I was shocked as just a few years ago he railed against Obama’s policies concerning the internet.) And my Dad’s anger about Ryan referring to social security as an entitlement. Both will vote for Trump again in 2020 though. They don’t get that the Republicans they support so blindly are the ones fucking them over. Pointing that out only gets silence from them. Nothing penetrates the bubble.

Did Truman sign bills that negatively affected the poor or minorities? Maybe Trump is keeping a different kind of score.

And this is the modus operandi embedded in the entire Trump team. He had to have been given the talking point by them, then tried it out to a few of them, followed by multiple underlings either already knowing its ridiculousness or finding it via Google and passing it up to Kelly… it would be no surprise if POTUS had even been warned, which only inflamed him to hammer the point home in public.

  12. Demosthenes says:

Trump lies about everything. Trump TV (Fox “News”) repeats the lie. Trump’s followers then repeat the lies as fact and dismiss any truth as “fake news”.

    Rinse and repeat.
