New type of spoon stabilizes itself for people with essential tremor (video)

A pretty neat demonstration of a new spoon that stabilizes itself, to help people with essential tremor or Parkinson’s be able to eat.

The video is amazing.

The company is called LiftWare, and the spoon goes for around $295. You can order one here. Because the battery is rechargeable, you want to looko into how long the battery lasts, when you’d need a new battery, and whether it can be replaced or do you need to buy a new $295 spoon after a few years.  Still, it’s a need product.  They say it elements 70% of the tremor.

  1. My mom was saying she has a hard time taking photos because she has a slight tremor.

Things like this invention really warm my heart. I have known people that because of their tremors avoided eating in public. This device can give them back a part of their lives they had lost.

Thanks, my 90 year old dad could use that.

Thanks. I hate it when the spoon flies across the room. Now if I can find a way to attach the spoon to my iPhone to stop it from shaking when I hold it to my ear!

I’ve got a friend who needs that. Thanks for the lead.

Is there some sort of humanitarian award for inventors who come up with something like this? There should be.

And on the snark front, how long before Rush Limbaugh makes fun of this, as he did regarding Michael J. Fox? You will understand of course I have to take any opportunity to express my disgust towards Rush Limbaugh. Who by the way just lost ads from Tyson Foods, the second largest food producing conglomerate in the US of A. they have issued orders to their bundled ad buyers to keep their ads of any “politically controversial” shows. In response to the Flush Rush campaigns. My Schadenfreude was great when I read this latest news.

Reminds of the image stabilization feature you can activate in the recent generations of most digital SLRs. It is in the last two generations of my Pentax DSLRs cameras.

Yeah, going to get one for my dad. They need a spatula attachment! :) The have an app that measures tremor – useful to quantify the issue.
