Sarah Palin joins Ted Cruz, confederate flag, as new face of shutdown

Sarah Palin, God bless her self-serving media savvy. As if the Republican party didn’t have enough troubles, Palin today emerged alongside Ted Cruz as the new face of the GOP government shutdown.

Yes, there really is a God.

Palin joined GOP Tea Party Senator, and shutdown leader, Cruz and other Tea Party supporters of the GOP’s shutdown of the federal government in a “million vet march” to protest the fact that the government has actually been shut down.

Point of fact: Neither Palin nor Cruz have actually served in the military, and both support the GOP government shutdown which closed the WWII memorial.  But don’t let that get in the way of a good visual.

Palin on shutdown: “Let government chill for a little bit.”

Palin on the shutdown not two weeks ago:

“Let government chill for a little bit.”

Palin said Republicans should not “fear some kind of government shutdown.” She then emphasized that Republicans must “stand firm,” “not blink,” and not “allow the media to drive this whole narrative” that a shutdown would be bad for Republicans.

Palin said that a shutdown would allow the American people to realize “how irrelevant the federal government could and should be in our lives.”

And now she’s leading a protest of the shutdown she supported.

Sarah Palin and Ted Cruz (bottom right) lead "veterans" in protesting the Republicans own shutdown of the government.

Sarah Palin and Ted Cruz (bottom right) lead “veterans” in protesting the Republicans own shutdown of the government.

Sarah Palin and Ted Cruz protest government shutdown they supported

“Veterans” – basically Tea Partyers – led by Palin and Cruz, marched today on the World War II memorial in Washington, DC, stole the National Park Service’s protective barriers, and then threw them at the White House.

This was intended to show their ire over the fact that the World War II memorial, along with every other federal land, site, office and program, was closed once the GOP shut down the federal government in the hopes of extorting the President into defunding health care reform, aka Obamacare, aka the Affordable Care Act.

The Tea Party “vets,” led by Palin and Cruz, are apparently so outraged at themselves for shutting down the federal government, that they’re now protesting the President for listening to them.

Tea Party protesters also concerned about Obama being a Muslim

According to CNN, the Tea Party protesters gathered at the White House are also very concerned that President Obama is a Muslim:

One speaker went as far as saying the president was a Muslim and separately urged the crowd of hundreds to initiate a peaceful uprising.

“I call upon all of you to wage a second American nonviolent revolution, to use civil disobedience, and to demand that this president leave town, to get up, to put the Quran down, to get up off his knees, and to figuratively come out with his hands up,” said Larry Klayman of Freedom Watch, a conservative political advocacy group.

Fox’s Brit Hume is quite upset that Politico’s Ben White appears to have a brain

Of course, leave it to Fox News to come to the defense of today’s contradictory Tea Party protest against the very shutdown policy the Tea Party championed.

It all began with a tweet from Politico’s Ben White:

Well, that didn’t sit well with the GOP propaganda headquarters over at Fox:

Fortunately, Ben was unphased – if not amused – by the attention he was receiving from the GOP mother ship:

Were Hume and Fox only as obsessed with the truth.

Confederate flag was right at the front of the Tea Party WWII memorial protest

Here’s a video of the throng throwing the Park Service gates at the White House:

Yes, that’s exactly what you thought you saw at the end of that video. The Palin-Cruz Tea Partyers are allied with southern confederate flag-waving racists:

Tea Partyers, led by Sarah Palin. Ted Cruz and southern racists waving the confederate flag, throw metal fences at the White House gates to protest the GOP shutdown of the government.

Tea Partyers, led by Sarah Palin. Ted Cruz and southern racists waving the confederate flag, throw metal fences at the White House gates to protest the GOP shutdown of the government.  Note the typo that was clumsily corrected in the sign.

It’s a funny way to “respect our vets,” carrying the flag of an enemy that created even more American vets.

Some lead conservatives were equally unimpressed:

“Perhaps,” as Peter Sylwester noted on Twitter, “the Confederate flag mob will move next to reopen the Lincoln Memorial.”

That would be fun.

Also note the typo that was clumsily corrected on the sign above – it used to read “Repect our Troops.”

Interestingly, Palin, Cruz and the Tea Partyers are holding no such protests to fight the shutdown of clinical trials for cancer patients, or the cut-off of death benefits for family members of US troops killed in Iraq and Afghanistan during the GOP shutdown.

Then again, this was never about real people for the GOP.

It never is.

Yep, Lincoln was a Republican. And the Rebublican freed Blacks from shackles and chains. In the 1965 Civil Rights bill, Kennedy freed Blacks from Jim Crow and the White Democrat racist that wanted to maintain slavery got upset and left the Democratic party for the Republican party. And that is where the Southern Whites reside today, in the Republican party. So the folks that want to keep Blacks as subservient didn’t change anything but their political party.

Alaska is light years behind the lower 48. just like the rebel flag and not one vet or American took the flag down in disgust. shame on America we brought the blacks to America we beat them maimed them injured them killed them murdered them burnt their houses down and bombed their places of worship. shame on palin

  3. Jeremie Morse says:

Many liberals and conservatives are just puppets posting their
respective talking points. It saddens me to see that people cannot
disagree without calling each other names. We have gotten to the point
in our country where we hate each other. Calling someone a racist is a
great tactic. Because instead on focusing on the issue the opponent has
to spend their time explaining why they are not racists. People are not interested in learning the other persons point of view like grown adults. Just like a child, they want to prove how right they are and have no interest in getting along. I
would say compared to many countries we are very uneducated. Otherwise,
instead of personal attacks you would hear sound intelligent talk explaining why our views differ. If we fail to find a common ground everyone here is in for huge problems. Untied we stand divided we fall is not just a cliche. It is truth

  4. Ed From Indy says:

People want to make a big deal about one Confederate Flag!
    1. He has a Right to fly that flag because of us vets! Now I too was there and
thought about saying something to the man, but did not for the fact he has the
God given right to fly it!! And I am a 20 year retired disabled veteran from
Indiana. If people want to get made about anything what about the lies we have
been getting out of this government.

    1. IRS going after the Tea Party.

    2. Did the IRS and President Obama have anything to do with
which car dealerships got closed down?

    3. Fast and Furious.

    4. Benghazi.

    5. NSA spying on U.S. citizens and foreign leaders.

    6. Obama care. Roll out and you can keep your Doctor and
    your Insurance plan yha right.

    7. Vets and their family’s not getting the benefits they
    have earned.

    8. This government shut down.

Now all you Vets know Honor, Integrity, Respect, loyalty, Compassion,
and Personal Responsibility are the corner stones of our creed and this country!!
This Commander and Chief has not one of these quality’s.

Ask your selves what if the list above “and I know it can be
added to” is not by accident and is by design what then?

Us Vets need to get out of our American Legion and VFW bar
and get mad and let them know this is not what we served for! We need to get
out the vote and hold the politicians feet to the fire or we will get more of
the same from Hillary Clinton, Harry Reid, Nancy Pelosi and the government that
has run a much under President Obama!! Get made about one man with a flag that
he has the right to fly hell get mad about this!!

  5. Life, Liberty and the pursuit says:

Being flown in battle does not make the Confederate Battle Flag inherently racist. The CBF has been adopted by many groups of racism and hatred and thus its true meaning has been tainted. I don’t believe that should demerit the CBF of it’s true origin and representation.

  6. Life, Liberty and the pursuit says:

Very well written, Swampdog62. John, your article was an interesting read and you made some points that were worth noting, however, you lost a significant amount of credibility when you chose to support the widely believed misconception that the Confederate Battle Flag is a representation of hatred and the support of racism. Would you have shared the same opinion had “Bonnie Blue” or the North Carolina Secession Flag been flown in the Confederate Battle Flags place? In giving you the benefit of the doubt, you might be very good at your job and playing into the hands of those that are less informed. If the statement above is in fact a true belief of yours, then perhaps a detailed history lesson would do you well my friend.

My hope is that America will once again share unity amongst her brothers & sisters of all race and religion and that we may focus our attention on foreign enemies rather than domestic before our situation deteriorates any further.

  7. Retired Capt says:

I was there. There was ONE Confederate Flag. I don’t think that kid is a vet. Were you there John?

  8. gina cavener says:

Thank you Ted, Sarah and Mike! You’re our only voices!

I see Mike Lee there too. He’s next to Cruz, and Behind Palin.

@Chuck, Yet you follow a liberal one sided blogger. Yep, that’s credible journalism at its finest.

  11. A bunch of dangerous Kooks. Can’t they be sensored?

  12. Drivethru says:

Flush Rush, Palin, Cruz, Beck and now Boehner! Real Americans who served deserve better representation! We know what side we are on and it is NOT yours,

  13. RAWoD says:

Once again I note that virtually every photo of Ted Cruz makes him look like both someone that smelt it and someone who dealt it. Take a look — it uncanny!

  14. bluelove says:

  16. bluelove says:

Well, Chuck, I’m not perfect! Typing error: I meant statistics. Fourth grade was a very long time ago. If you read , and keep up with politics, then you know that obozo is constantly lying to Ameicans. And so do all his cronies. 65% of Americans do not want obozocare. At a time when we need jobs, in America, obozocare is cutting peoples jobs from fulltime to partime. And small buisineses are letting people go! obozo, and his cronies want a one payer system for healthcare. Insurance companies will be put out of business, and people will be forced to take obozocare. FORCED! I never thought I would see our freedoms taken away. obozo needs to be impeached. And some of his people need to be put away for a long time. LIES, LIES, LIES! obozo has taken the presidency to a new low! It has gotten to the point of being absolutely ridiculous. God help us.

  17. Status Crow says:

Congrats on this piece, John. You’d do Pravda proud!

  18. Swampdog62 says:

Why not mention Marine Flags, Christian Crosses, American Flags, etc. that are also at the front of the line as symbols of hate??? Someone
who believes the Confederate Flag stands for racism is no different
than someone who believes Fox New is “fair and balanced”. That flag
stands for “Southern Pride” and THAT’S IT. My President is Barack Obama
and I’m proud to call him that. Ted Cruz, Sarah Palin and the Tea
Party are the morons………as well as this idiot desecrating our
“flag of heritage”. Just because a few idiots use it as a symbol of
hate doesn’t mean the majority of us do. Tea Patriots wrap themselves
in American Flags & Hats all the time and then try to overthrow the
government. That doesn’t make the American Flag bad. An AssHo_e is an
AssHo_e….but please leave the flag out of this mess. People in the South are a proud people but the biggot and racist here is the blogger who is trying to stir up something they know nothing about.

  19. Darren says:

So let me get this right – the **confederate BATTLE FLAG** isnt racist? It ISNT a symbol of the division that tore this country apart, a division caused by the south over their desire to own people?

You can pretend all you want, but there are some facts you cant ignore:

    1. That is the confederate battle flag
    2. The constitution of the confederacy DEMANDED that each state in the confederacy be a slave holding state.

They’re racists and you’re an idiot.

  20. doyourresearch says:

It actually is racist because that flag is the Confederate Battle Flag which was used in battle. If you wanted to show your southern pride use the correct Confederate Flag…if you dont know what it looks like..look it up.

  21. Txsecededave says:

What the South was really fighting the civil war for? If only 6% of Southerners owned slaves, then what were the other 94% fighting for?
They were fighting for The Cause; less government, less taxes, and the right of the people to govern themselves.
Oppressive Taxes, (congress passed, shortly after Lincoln was elected, the Morrill Tariff, the highest import tax in u.s. history, more than doubling the rate from 20% to 47 %),
denial of states’ rights to govern states and an unrepresentative federal government, pushed the Southern states to legally withdraw from the union, Not slavery.
When the Southerners escaped the tax by withdrawing from the Union, the only way the North could collect this oppressive tax was to invade the Confederate states and force them at gunpoint back into the Union.

  22. Jeremie Morse says:

Well first you assume raising your taxes is how Congress can rip you off. Well they cannot directly take that money. That is obviously steeling. What they do is hold stock and investments is these private companies and in turn make laws that favor their investments. Here is an example of how it works Democrat Rep. Dennis Cardoza of California pass legislation
that gives tax breaks to racehorse owners, and bought seven racehorses
once it went into effect. Here is annother example Republican Rep. Mike Kelly of Pennsylvania has worked to benefit the
natural gas industry — while he and his wife made up to $50.2 million in
the sale of a relatives natural gas companies to
Exxon Mobil. In fact overall wealth of congress has risen 15%. That how they are stealing from us. And it is right behind our backs. Stuff like this happens all the time. They are not in it for you or me they are in it for personal gain. They only vote for the things you like to keep the votes coming. Pretty sneaky huh?

  23. Mike Brown says:

No…it is completely “fair”….and it underscores what a selfish douche bag some people can be by siding with a bunch of nihilists because of their fixation on a single issue at the expense of everyone else.
One issue idiot voter: “I don’t like abortion…so I will vote with these assholes who think it’s awesome to dehumanize people of color, women, and the poor, and whore themselves out to corporate interests, and circumvent democracy”

EVERY-TIME you pull the lever for these people you ARE complicite in EVERYTHING they do.

This is the dumbest article I have ever seen “southern racist” how about southern pride this flag
is flown everywhere in the south go take a drive. It’s only racist to race baiting bigot’s who continue to drive racism. SMH The media is out of control.

At Apple she will become senior vice president for retail and online stores.

Ms Ahrendts has been with Burberry for almost a decade, and has been credited with turning it into a globally recognised firm.

She will be replaced by chief creative officer Christopher Bailey, who has been in the role for six years.

In her new role, Ms Ahrendts is expected to report directly to Apple chief executive Tim Cook.

    ‘Moved and humbled’

Ms Ahrendts said it was “an honour” to have worked at Burberry.

“Burberry is in brilliant shape. I am confident that Christopher, as one of this generation’s greatest visionaries, will continue to lead Burberry to new heights,” Ms Ahrendts added.

Christopher Bailey said he was “moved and humbled” to take on the chief executive role. He will also retain his existing chief creative officer role.

“We have a clear strategy to build on, an increasingly powerful brand and an inspiring management team,” he added.

Ms Ahrendts and Mr Bailey will work together over the coming months to try to ensure a smooth transition, the firm said.

Burberry chairman Sir John Peace described Ms Ahrendts’ departure as “a natural progression”.

“I have no doubt that Christopher’s vision and leadership, with the excellent management team in place, will keep Burberry on the forefront creatively, digitally and financially,” he added.

    Burberry results

Ms Ahrendts departure was announced, as Burberry revealed 17% growth in underlying retail sales in the six months to the end of September.

Retail sales from stores open at least a year grew by 13%, helped by double digit growth in Asia Pacific and the Europe, Middle East, India and Africa division and high single-digit growth in the Americas.

Total revenue rose 14% to £1.03bn.

So the moron with the rebel flag and Sarah Palin are the face and meaning of the protest because those are the photos that the partisan media you follow show you? Hook, line, and sinker eh? The mainstream media paints a picture for its viewers to follow, and sadly, most fall for it.

If you can’t understand and support that, they already have you right where they want you!!

Some of you are acting like they were, pointing and laughing at us, listening to them instead of US.. This is getting disheartening..

This is not a game!! This is not what some of you apparently think it is!!

I am trying to write this thing, and piece it together so that you can get a better understanding as to why we were there!

But go ahead! Listen to the propaganda!! Go ahead, because we are moving forward with or without you.

  49. Mike Brown says:

I am sorry….but you are full of shit.
Let me ask you a question….do you vote republican? If you do then you are just as guilty as every individual who supports the overall current Republican platform. You may not be a racist douche bag….but you align yourself with people who are…and making it a point to demonize and disenfranchise people of color.

Every time you vote Republican/Conservative you promote the idea that it is ok to deprive millions of health care, the destruction of the commons for the profit of a few, and a living wage for workers who make it possible for the rich to be rich.

Every time you vote Republican/Conservative you support those who would destroy the republic and the world economy because they could not get what they wanted via democratic means.

These are the people you support.

So yeah…when you get down to it….it really is black and white.

  50. jam20636 says:

    Independent Thinker AND Mike,

These are all conclusive assertions with little evidence. First, there is difficulty in defining exactly who a “liberal” is. Is every registered democrat a liberal? And every republican, a conservative? I highly doubt it. Where does that leave independents?

Such terms are not black and white. And yet, we have this notion that there is ideological purity in calling people liberals or conservatives. I beg to differ with you on this point.

Such terms–or now, epithets–have baseless meaning. I do believe in fiscal conservatism and think that we have some tough financial choices to make ahead. I am pro-life with regards to abortion and the death penalty. However, I support euthanasia in limited cases. I also believe in gay marriage, but think its a right reserved to the states.

These are ideals that come from both sides of the aisle my friend. And I am when I am called a liberal and when I am called a conservative.

It is not a crime to be neither. And, most polls and scientific studies on ideology shows that most Americans never squarely fit into either ideology comfortably.

And I also resent the charge that I don’t know how to make up my mind as a moderate. I have made up my mind based on careful reasoning and pragmatic approach to real-life problems that we currently face.

Furthermore, the United States does not have other political parties and ideologies that have grown so rampant in other democracies such as anarchism, totalitarianism, socialism, and Marxism. There are some parliaments that contain 15 different political parties.

Ideology is more than a two way street. It is an entanglement of avenues.

Nazi Party elevates racism to a party platform, declaring Jews to be non-citizens.
Tea Party condones racism, waving the Confederate flag in front of the White House demanding the Black President to give up and surrender.

Nazi Party utilized the Great Depression and brawling tactics to beat Germans into submission.
Tea Party utilized the Great Recession to get into office and now attempts to use the Good Faith and Credit of the United States to beat Americans into submission.

Nazi Party forced the Chancellor Hindenberg of Germany out of power and took over absolutely.
Tea Party has Speaker Boehner under their thumb [ unclear how ] and is attempting to impose their will on the majority by hijacking the rules committee.

We all know what happened to Germany and the world after Hitler and the Nazi’s gained absolute power.
If the Tea Party succeeds to bring about the default of America paying its bill will wreak such havoc on the world as we know it will be the equivalent of World War III.

Republicans, take back your party now before the Tea Party destroys the United States.

The Well there is 3 histories to the tea party movement. First lets look at the left’s account of the events It is funded by big tobacco and Koch brothers. Then some say it came from the Ron Paul revolution. While other say it came out of nowhere and is a grass roots movement. The problem is the one about Koch brothers is left narrative and of course the “grass roots” is a Neo con narrative. So since I am neither left or right. I don’t believe either of the stories. This what happens when you use personal attacks you credibility goes out the window. I do know people who are in local tea party movements. They are not racists pretty nice people. So they whack out nut job right wing nut job racists is not what I see. Any more than the occupiers were all hippies that were bums and wanted freebies, I have Friends that were involved in that as well. They are very and nice and down to earth people. So as far as can see both narratives are false.

Truthfully, i was tested HIV + positive last 3years. I keep on managing the drugs i usually purchase from the health care agency to keep me healthy and strenghtful, i tried all i can too make this disease leave me alone, but unfortunately, it keep on eating up my life, this is what i caused myself, for allowing my fiance make sex to me unsecurely without protection, although i never knew he is HIV positive. 70. Popeye says:

Once again the dumb demos got it wrong. The GOP didn’t shut the gov down. It was obama, reid and durbin

  71. Deana Bowlds says:

Ted Cruz threatened for months to shut it down. And Sarah Palin acted like she was aiding and abetting.

  72. Deana Bowlds says:

I have a legitimate case to make against that so called excuse for a protest. There are real problems out there resulting from the shut down. This so called protest did not address anything that threatens anyone’s life or livelihood and seemed to assign blame in great heaping nonsense ignorant spoonfuls to everyone the TEA PARTY (the one financed by corporate interests…the Koch Brothers) does not like. No, this was a poor imitation of a protest. They vandalized some fences and insulted the president with nonsense.

  73. Deana Bowlds says:

The left doesn’t DEMONIZE Palestinians OR Muslims. And I detest it when people who have never met either one want to put them all in the same bucket. That isn’t the same as LOVES every person in a specific group, but the prejudice and bigotry (I KNOW some Muslims, and the ones I KNOW are wonderful) that has resulted from some extremists do not put me off from an entire group..any more than the extremists who call themselves Christians and terrorize people put me off from all Christians.
The LEFT thinks about things like that ..people who can’t figure this out seem to be incapable of thinking that hard.

  74. Deana Bowlds says:

Well, you need to familiarize yourself with the history of the Tea Party then. And who financed it.

  75. Deana Bowlds says:

No , but they were there AND partook in the racist rants. Case closed.

  76. Deana Bowlds says:

I think I would not argue about the constitution, it’s contents, or it’s interpretation, with a CONSTITUTIONAL LAW PROFESSOR…you know, the POTUS. Don’t think you understand it,,,the scholars are NOT siding with the Tea Party or their minions.

  77. Deana Bowlds says:

So, what’s with the “go back to Kenya” garbage? The kettle is black, and I don’t mean Obama.

  78. Deana Bowlds says:

I would have a whole lot more respect for your “facts”, except I spent MONTHS listening to the Tea Party and Ted Cruz run around announcing that they would shut down the Federal government if they did not get their way. There is no getting around that, Everything after that is gamesmanship, pure and simple and nobody with half a brain is taken in by that kind of manipulation. The entire movement is stupid, pure and simple and I would dare you to tell me about ONE instance where someone’s life or livelihood depends on getting into a memorial on demand. Waiting….tick tock, tick tock….Hmmmmm…..okay, try again.

  80. Deana Bowlds says:

That so called protest would have been far more impressive IF it had protested something of vet benefits being held up, people not getting paychecks (including the congressional staffers who continue to get paychecks), cancer patient being denied care, and if everyone had told Palin (who is of marginal knowledge and intelligence) and Glenn Beck to sit down and back down. The rants about Obama being a Muslim, impeachment, etc, etc, are sick.

  81. Deana Bowlds says:

What made this whole thing racist were the rants about Obama being Muslim, overthrowing the government, and nobody shouting down the speakers for being out of line. Don’t sugar coat this trash.

  82. Undersigned says:

  86. MissingFacts says:

I thought you were going to be honest when talking about facts. House Republicans knew, well in advance, of 10/1 that the Senate will not pass a bill that defunds the health care bill that was passed into law 2 years ago. They were well aware that the government would have to shutdown when the current funding bill expired on 9/30. No “full and purposed plan” here. It’s what happens if congress cannot agree on funding the government. Both the House and Senate know this so no one should be shocked. Ted Cruz is just using these people’s emotions for political gain. He knew this would happen.

BTW, the AHA health care law that was passed 2 years ago is already a compromise. Republicans already got their demands at that time. What more do they want? What’s really childish is that they don’t want to fund their own budget unless they can get more out of it.

I’m sure this blogger must not watch Fox news very often or
He would know Sarah Palin has been a loyal supporter
Of our military as covered by Greta Van Sustern
Also there were many flags flown that day among the states representatives. The Mississippi state flag, commonly known as the confederate flag was among them. That hardly makes our state racist-not to mention the attendees of the protest.
It’s really sad to see people slander others so easily these days
    Very sad indeed

  94. OriginalMB says:

I didn’t see any republican sitting senator standing next to the guy holding the confederate flag either. Neither could I see Palin or Cruz in a picture that also showed the confederate battle flag. Is there a photo of them standing next to it?

While I do agree that pushing the idea of slavery is detestable, our Constitution does allow those with differing views to have a freedom to speak their view & show their flag. Just because they came to the same rally, does not mean those at the rally support it.

  95. John Veylupek says:

    It’s spelled unfazed, not unphased.

Is there other ones and is there video showing Cruz or Palin going out of their way to make sure they are next to this guy? Or did this guy sneak his way in to them?

  97. Shaking my head in SC says:

I don’t know if I’ve ever read a more biased article. Hopefully, people who think for themselves will see and reject this author’s ridiculous logic: 1) The Republicans in the House stood up for their constituents even at the risk of shutting down the government. 2) The Republicans shut down the government. 3) Sarah Palin is a Republican, so she is responsible for the government shutdown. 4) A government shutdown includes closing federal areas (like memorials) that are never closed or guarded in any way. 5) Sarah Palin is protesting the closing of memorials that she herself closed. 6) There happened to be one or more people holding a Confederate flag at the protest. 7) Sarah Palin is a Confederate racist. 8) Oh, and there was a botched sign at the protest, so that means Sarah Palin can’t spell.
Seriously? The first statement is true. Then everything goes haywire. My 10-year-old can see the lack of rationale in your train of thought. He doesn’t think it makes sense. He thinks your article is a joke. Is it?

  98. OriginalMB says:

Name calling? Yeah mature. How does one reason with someone who stoops to the level of an elementary child?

  99. OriginalMB says:

Have you EVER read the Constitution? Do you have any understanding at all that the federal government has limited rights over you and me? Do you get that they are already taking WAY more taxes than are necessary to fulfill ALL the requirements they have rights to fulfill? Do you get that with a limited federal government, you would be more free to achieve more with your life?

  100. OriginalMB says:

This blog is pure trash. Of course, I figure my post won’t be here long.

But if it does stand for any length of time, then I will add this note to the readers who can actually take a look at actual facts as the Congressional record is public record. You will find if you do look and see that it was the Republicans who provided for ALL funding the federal government needed with the exception of Obama”Care” (which is their right as bills for funding come from the House and they get to pick and choose what to fund). And this shut-down was the full and purposed plan of Reid in the Senate & Obama to push this country into shutdown. Through their actions of voting against & Obama’s THREATS to veto any funding bills that made it to his desk that actually caused the shut down. And the inflammatory name-calling from the democrats using terms that are egregious and criminal (in my belief) equating American Patriots to such criminals as suicide bombers to terrorists, hijackers and kidnappers, meanwhile it was the PROGRESSIVES in DC who shut everything down including non-manned OPEN AIR parks. And in order to shut them down, it required PAYING money to bring in equipment (Barry-cades) and paying money to government officials to guard these open spaces which normally have no employees at. It is sheer lunacy what Obama is doing with these tactics which equal that of a temper tantrum from a toddler.

But if the dems want this, then they need to honestly own this. Oh wait that’s right, we are talking about the party of the users and occupiers, those who flee honesty and choose to take what they want while denying any personal responsibility.

  101. Jeremie Morse says:

The point is idiots are all over the place BTW I am not a right winger. In fact I believe in the legalization of drugs, I am a non interventionist and I don’t believe the government should have any role in marriage. If you are gay straight or want to marry 100 women or men it is none of the governments business. instead of attacking the people. Attack what they’re issues are. That alone should hold. Let’s remember Ad hominem attacks are no replacement for logic. I actually can identify with the Occupy Movement There are people in Wall St who are crocked and greedy. I can also identify with the tea party As far as there are many corrupt politicians, Where I disagree is the one side has more blame than the other. They are both guilty and until we realize that they will win. Both sides play this blame game while our leaders are robbing us blind.

  102. Whitewitch says:

  103. Reno Berkeley says:

That would be his father, not Ted, who only became a citizen in 2005. Ted is a citizen by birth, through his American mother.

  104. Barbara D Holtzman says:

Sadly, that is not true. I hosted several Occupy rallies in a building that I managed, back in the heady days. At one point they made a poster of “issues,” which were varied an many. One of them was “self-determination for Palestine.” Soon after, there was an issue discussion that included this, as well as comments about George Soros, both a Jew and ultra-liberal. The gist was that Israel was evil, and Jews who support Israel were also evil. I had to then say that intolerance was the only thing that was not tolerated, and that they could cut out demonizing a group or they could leave and never come back. They calmed down, but slowly petered out and the now tiny group meets where they feel safe to talk “freely.”

I have seen more than a few signs like the one in the photo. I am always amazed that the Left adores the Palestinians, who are as a group (meaning not all of them), fundamentalist Muslim and renowned for blowing up people and things, yet hate Israelis, who run an imperfect society, yes, but are the most liberal people in the Middle East, the most tolerant, and the most heterogeneous. Israel was founded as a Socialist Democracy, and still is one, for the most part. How that equates with evil when you are a progressive still escapes me.

Yes, Jews do indeed vote left-leaning; I’m one of them. And most of the progressive politicians we help elect are not anti-Semitic, nor do they hate Israel (despite what Conservatives say about Obama). However, the farther left you lean, the more likely you are to be “anti-Zionist”, even if you are Jewish yourself, which I’m sorry, is just a justification to hate Jews.

  105. aurens66 says:

I would like a real count of vets there, all the vets I know, I have a military family, could not be more enraged at the tea party and republicans because their actions are effecting their pay, their safety, their health, their welfare, and the death benefits to help bury the men and women who’ve given their life for their country during this government shutdown. The Tea Party are good at photo ops, but not at anything of substance.

  106. aurens66 says:

All the public parks and memorials were shut down, the government did not pick and choose. In case you hadn’t been paying attention, all summer memorials in DC have been vandalized, including the Lincoln Memorial last month, so left unattended, these landmarks, which belong to the people will be vandalized. Now when the WW2 Vets showed up to the memorial, as scheduled, the first day of the shut-down, they were escorted by Dems, and Republicans who opened the memorial for them, only then did Republicans gleefully show up (the next day) for photo ops, the same gleefull Republicans who cheered when they shut down government and stated ‘its a good day for the Tea Party when it’s a bad day for government’ on one hand, the Republicans state it won’t matter if there is a shutdown, no one will notice, and then wonder why millions of Americans (the fed is the nations largest employer) are furious, not only those furloughed, but those who continue to work without pay, is it fair or just to demand people show up without pay? It is the Republicans who want to pick and choose which programs to fund and which to defund, but at last, there is a line they can’t cross, and the Dems are tired of being bullied and held hostage, and they are holding Republicans up for the ridicule and derision they so deserve.

  107. aurens66 says:

Just when you think it could not get any more surreal, or stupid … anyone want to let them in on the secret that the Confederacy LOST? I suppose no one should point out that Ted Cruz only became a citizen of the US in 2005, and that he was born in Canada?

Things the gop only recently agreed to fund “piece meal”, because their constituents are starting to feel it. And! if the The President, Barrack Hussein Obama would go all ’14th amendment’ on your asses – OMGoodness!!!!!! We would never, EVER, hear the end of that one. How will that look seeing the North closing down the South?

You can thank these instigators, Sarah Palin, Ted Cruz, and any of the others who are caught out protesting and stirring up the crowd.

The other bit of outrageousness that happened in the House needs to be addressed as well. Changing the voting rule where this clean bill cannot be brought up for a vote by a majority of the House with out the authorization of the Majority Whip Eric Canter just happened by surprise. It won’t matter if there are 29 republicans to add to the democrats to vote the clean bill if it is brought to the floor for a vote. The new rule voted by the House Rules committee changed that. The Republican Tea Party wants the government to remain shut!

  148. Renee111 says:

If the White House has NOTHING to do with selecting what gets shut down and what doesn’t, why did the WHITE HOUSE (Nancy Pelosi publicly thanked the President for re-opening it) re-open the National Mall for the immigration rally yet did NOT reopen the WWII Memorial for the Vet rally. Not only did they not reopen the war memorial, they sent in the SWAT team and armored trucks.

Apparently, the White House has the authority to pick favorites in a “Shutdown” — open what it wants, when it wants and close what it wants, when it wants. Oh, I forgot, this White House has nothing to do with shutting down war memorials or parks, even State and privately funded parks; it’s someone else’s fault. The buck never stops in O’s Oval office.

  149. Renee111 says:

What a dishonest article! Sarah Palin and Ted Cruz did not shut down the WWII memorial. The Administration did. It is up to them to decide what to close and what not to. Ask yourself this: if every time the government has a “slim down” (there’s been about 16) why were the memorials never before closed in history? It’s a charade by the White House and you are falling for it, hook, line and sinker.

  150. STP says:

Your right but I’ve got a bad feeling about crazy people and lately there have been a lot coming out just because of Obama nevermind the ACA. Crazy people have rights but they get medicine too! Either we check to see if Palin or Cruz is on something OR if not put them on something.

  151. STP says:

Looks more like ([email protected]) this country isn’t for you! As a Vet I shake my head at those who have lost their mind over the fact that the US doesn’t look the way they wanted. I do weighed it heavily that these “spokespeople” HAVE NOT SERVED.

  152. John Richter says:

She is just trying to stay in the media. It is nothing new for her to contradict herself from week to week as long as she keeps in the media . The government makes people dependent on them, the government does not give us all they should… government healthcare… the government won’t give us all the healthcare we want..death panels…

  153. Ray says:

Where o where is the GOP?

  154. CharlieEL says:

Nice try, but the Confederacy and Nazi Germany had nothing in common and I am not sure why you mentioned the preisdent as I never have, not have I mentioned race which is something you all seem to be preoccupied with. I would happily vote for any person of any color so long as I felt he or she had the best interests of this country and its citizens at heart. Nice try attempting to stereotype me.

  155. lynchie says:

they are only words and words don’t kill, guns do.

  156. CherryTheTart says:

I get that. I live on my Soc Sec alone. I am definitely fiancially challenged. I do not expect everyone to be cheerful about or committed to my sentiments. I would be an ingrate if I did expect others to feel the same.

  157. Tamara B says:

Unfortunately we can’t afford to give up a check or two. I am my mother’s caretaker and even though i have a side job merchandising it doesn’t pay much as it is a rural area. We are heavily dependant on her social security since her pension is less than 300 a month because she didn’t get her full pension because the hospital she worked at did everything they could to get rid of all the nurses at the top of thier pay scale and replace them with ones fresh out of school. The pension would cover her medication and her supplemental insurance but not little things like food, rent or electricity. We desperately need her disability check to keep coming because we can’t afford to be without it.

  158. CherryTheTart says:

Sarah Palin: your wiglet is suffering from mange.

  159. heusedsarcasm says:

They’d have used it to ignite a cross.

  160. CherryTheTart says:

… and bring the Gay Banditos.

  161. CherryTheTart says:

… and benghazi … and irs irs irs …

  162. CherryTheTart says:

Yeah, he has the rifle and she has the rack.

  163. CherryTheTart says:

Lord knows that has me upset. But I will give up the check if it supports the POTUS. One or two missing Soc Sec checks will be all she wrote.

  164. pickaboo says:

What the hell is Wrong with you guys? I’m really sitting here watching Americans talking about who America is “for” . Give me a break. America is for everyone that’s the entire fucking point of the country. Its a melting pot. You’re not always going to like what happens but America should be ruled by the people. Everybody gets to say what they want. The very fact that you are thinking someone is less American than you because they have a different point of view is terribly misguided.

  165. CherryTheTart says:

And voted most effective Congressperson. Go Grayson!

  166. ins0ma says:

I never attended any of the Occupy Wall St. events, and I’m still not precisely sure what they were trying to accomplish besides getting a vague message across. That said, if it’d been a group of Occupy protesters taking barricades away from security personnel and trying to throw them over the fence of the White House, there probably would’ve been a much more forceful police response.

  167. BeccaM says:

Funny how you’re always telling those of us with ideals of liberty, inclusion, and democracy to leave — and then threaten secession when you don’t get your way.

Maybe America isn’t the country for you.

  168. Brenda Harrah says:

Let’s take away their salaries and stop paying taxes during the shutdown…then we’ll see how “irrelevant” the government is to the American people.

  169. KingCranky says:

Such schadenfreude to point out that two notorious teabaggers, Allen West & Joe Walsh, were members of the “one & done” club after the 2012 elections, which means no congressional pensions-have to serve at least five years to get that goody.

Even more enjoyable, Alan Grayson was sent back to the House.

  170. Gray Lady says:

Lynchie, I may not particularly like the “descriptive” language in your post but I do have to agree with the points you made.

  171. Bj Lincoln says:

The Queen of Stupidity has struck again! Leader of the Sheeple. She will lead them off a cliff and they will follow believing their hate was right.

  172. Peter Grenader says:

    Nah… you leave

  173. Gray Lady says:

Kevin – Don’t forget that a huge majority of those that served were drafted & had to go whether they wanted to or not. I’m not saying that makes their service anything less honorable or less appreciated.
But the vets from today’s ongoing war in the Middle-East (started by president who didn’t even honorable serve the position obtained for him by his father – and a war based on lies) actually voluntarily enlisted & deserve every bit as much respect & benefits as those who fought in earlier wars.

  174. Gray Lady says:

Chris you are absolutely right. Those who do all the public proclaiming of being “Christians” are the ones who we have to watch out for. A real Christian would be out there looking after the needs of the sick, poor, etc,, not trying to take away what little they are receiving from the government “entitlements.” These proclaiming themselves “Christians” should check out the following scriptures and see if they are living up to God’s word:
    Deut 15.11
    Isaiah 58:7
    Exekiel 18:7
    Matthew 25.42

  175. A couple of protesters messed up and tried to toss barricades over the WH fence. Fortunately, the onlookers told them to stop and that wasn’t the way to act.
The protesters are exercising their constitutional rights. And they aren’t getting paid for them.
Unlike the author of this article — who at best is a propaganda puppet.
I could care less if Cruz or Palin served. They are there along side those who did. As were all others in attendance. As for the rest of you, perhaps this isn’t the country for you.

  176. gottawaitforthemtodie says:

what stupid bubba with the confederate flag hanging in your garage wants to argue the Romney got more popular votes than Obama…YOU!!! you are trying to argue but you cannot figure out how to log into facebook etc. to be heard…shut up Bubba you are a fool and an embarrassment to earthlings. If I could play you a country song that could rhyme sequestration, government shutdown, rebel flag, blacks, obamacare and Texas cruz i would :) f u ckin idiot.

  177. Gray Lady says:

That, too. (remember he was selling oil to Germany while we were at war with them)

  178. Gray Lady says:

    Yes; true.

  179. Gray Lady says:

Yes, but she certainly was good with a rifle – shooting defenseless animals from a helicopter.

  180. Gray Lady says:

  183. Gray Lady says:

Again, BeccaM, you have spoken correctly.

  184. Gray Lady says:

Looking at the video, if they are not throwing those barricades, they are giving a darned good imitation of doing so. “Stacking” you call it??

  185. Gray Lady says:

Has anyone noticed that it is the “Red States” whose representatives are doing the loudest screaming about lazy freeloaders collecting “entitlements”, who are collecting the most in govt benefits or “entitlements” as they call it?

  186. PeteWa says:

    ah, indeed.

  187. vetvoter says:

I wonder that they didn’t try to burn a cross on the White House Lawn. These creeps are giving vets a very bad name.

  188. virginia weaver says:

Why would ANYONE even listen to this woman. She became mayor of a small town in Alaska, population 5000; the city’s long-term debt was ONE million dollars when she was elected; when she left office after 2 terms the debt was TWENTY-FIVE million!! And she has the audacity to criticize Obama about the US

  189. Pamela Andersen says:

OK Stealing Government property and then throwing it at the White House..there has to be a crime in there somewhere!

  190. ca_rickf says:

    Shudder, frickin’ troll

  192. Leota2 says:

Palin would be the face of the ebola virus if it would get her attention.

  193. Capdragon says:

Personally, I am sick and tired of NJRW’s tirades, protestations about results of their own actions, their persecution complexes, … the list just goes on and on.

This latest so called protest would be funny if it were not so dangerous a symbol of the lengths they will descend to.

Speaking as a serial protestor. One who protested against Vietnam, Kent State, for Civil Rights, Women’s Rights, Gay Rights, Religious Freedoms for and from, and Anti War since the start of our intrusions into the Middle East I wonder what Palin and Cruz, et all would do in a real old fashioned protest.

I have had my head busted, ribs broken, teeth knocked out and other injuries suffered in Vietnam and Civil Rights protests.

And tho I am anti militarization of our Police I have to say the police have become LESS violent in their actions/reactions to protestors. Not saying they’re getting gentle, HELL no, but if the DC Polikce had reacted as they did in the 60’s Palin nor Cruz who have been able to talk after their trashing of Gov’t property and they physical attack on and towards White House grounds because some less kind cop would have handed them their teeth.

And as a Vietnam Veteran, I’m ashamed of the actions and language of the protestors shown. I realize that many of the protestors came in peace, with no racial slurs no anti gov’t slurs thrown.

But the actions if the few loud mouthed, hate spewing minority overshadows the whole.

You see. even tho I did protest the Vietnam war, even tho I was not drafted, soon as I turned 18 I enlisted. I personally believe that the right to protest was born form the lost blood and lives of this country’s military and ,being able to serve, I should do so do preserve the future rights of myself, others, and those of my progeny.
Makes me wonder what excuses Cruz, Cheney, and others use for their lack of service.

  194. lrfcowper says:

Only person I see talking about and thinking about sex is you. If it makes you so uncomfortable, maybe you should stop blathering about rectums. (I’ll note that ENDA also protects lesbians, and gay men who don’t like anal sex, and LGBT folks who are celibate but still discriminated against.)

  198. wetcasements says:

    Fucking clowns.

  199. Jafafa Hots says:

Another way your history teacher lied to you.
The war of 1812 was an attempt by the US to grab British America (Canada) as part of our “manifest destiny.”

We not only lost our attempt at fulfilling our imperialistic goals, we almost lost our independence. We got our asses handed to us.

    And then proclaimed “victory.”

  200. Miss Dolce says:

I want to see video of these folks storming the Lincoln Memorial….The irony!

  201. UpperLeftCoast says:

More worrisome than the expected racist confederate flag wavers was the presence of an “Oath Keepers” flag. This is a very far right extremist group. See, e.g.:

  202. highcourt says:

    always the case,isn’t it?

  203. Miss Dolce says:

Wow!! I have seen it all!! “Patriots” waving the Confederate flag to protest a government shutdown…I am just speechless..

  204. highcourt says:

LOL.. nothing more karmic & ironic than Russia snoop Palin & communist Cuban Cruz wrapping themselves in the confederate flag,Even Monty Python wouldn’t think of it if they were Yanks.

  205. FLL says:

Gerrymandering worked for the Republicans in 2012. The problem for Republicans is that many districts are gerrymandered so exquisitely and ingeniously in order to result in the maximum possible Republican victories. They didn’t waste any voters by creating really solid Republican districts. Instead, they created many districts where the Republican would win with not much more than 50%. In other words, the Republicans might have been to clever for their own good. It wouldn’t take too much of a shift to lose those districts, and when the shift occurs, the entire rigged system of gerrymandered districts might fold like a house of cards.

  206. Capdragon says:

A real, honest miracle here, folks !!!!!!
Assholes have learned how to type.
    Incredible feat, tryst18th.
Now, can you learn to read and think for your self ?

  207. Shannon Kinsella says:

They only kept the majority of their seats due to gerrymandering. We may very well be screwed next time around as well. It doesn’t matter if we have the majority, which dems do, if we can’t vote in the gerrymandered districts…..It’s not as if people actually voted for most of the republicans that kept their seats or picked up new ones. Republicans just made sure the people they didn’t want to vote for someone else – couldn’t.

  208. BeccaM says:

If it was ‘universal’, we wouldn’t be having this argument.

  209. Pick6 says:

    troll face

  210. Capdragon says:

Just one minute, kevinb, are you seriously saying that the only “REAL vets” are the survivors of WW2 ?
    How dare you !
Every one you has either enlisted, or in one era of time be drafted, has done so with the ever present danger of having to lay down their live in protection of these United States.
Korean, Congo, Vietnam, North Korean Penetration teams, past and current Mid East forces, ALL of them have done and do so with the looming threat of combat engagement.
You speak as someone who has either never been in the military, or one who was in and got kicked out or performed some cowardly act that has soured you.
To say that some one who hasn’t tasted combat, any one who states it’s fun has never been there, is NOT a “REAL vet” is disgusting, hateful statement and a down right lie !
Just as bad someone who’s never been in service joining those who have just for the cameras.
SO I rate you as equally slimey as Palin and Cruz.

  211. Pick6 says:

    Ya, wigged out.

  212. alaskan1st says:

Lighten up. Laugh to keep from crying. The comedy here is the teahadists are protesting themselves.

  213. Monoceros Forth says:

Yeah, it’s obvious from Mr. Aravosis’s closing remarks about the shutdown of clinical trials and the cutoff of death benefits that he really wants this to keep going on. Schmuck.

  215. mark_in_toronto says:

Jeeeeez . . . are you guys embarrassed yet?
Or, are you going to let this go on?
Yes, Palin is a joke but the shut-down is real.
It’s as if you really want this . . . that must be it because I can’t think of any other reason . . . too much trouble I guess.

  219. Pick6 says:

Probably died of suffocation from all of those hideous wigs she wears.

  220. Monoceros Forth says:

Oh, I don’t doubt the racism at all. Really it’s all part of the same stinking and noisome package, a package with a big colorful flag sticker on it that says, “All I care about is my region, my race, my religion, my culture.”

  221. Pick6 says:

    !pheH !pheH

The GOP lost 8 seats in the House during the 2012 elections. Any Republican cheerleader who thinks the results of the 2014 midterms are going to be similar to the results of the 2010 midterms is indulging in wishful thinking. There’s only one thing for the GOP to do in 2014 and 216: face the music.

Ad hominem is a perfectly suitable tactic when dealing with a troll whose ‘opinions’ are irrational, intellectually dishonest, false and /or racist, misogynist, anti-gay or treasonous. It just saves the effort of wasting energy on a perfectly stupid troll.

  229. redflagged says:

I hope you are right, but I do think the relentless assault on this nation by these people isn’t going to stop any time soon.

Hopefully your neighbors are realizing the errors of their ways……….but more than likely they’re just being quiet because they know full well who is responsible for this mess.

  230. Pick6 says:

No worries. Those who wave or wear that flag since 1/20/09 do so because all they’ve thought about and talked about, (“Bubba, you won’t effin believe it but there’s a bunch of ******* in our WHITE House!!!”) is the world where black folks couldn’t cross the street without permission, much less become POTUS. They’re sick phucks whose message only resonates with other sick phucks.

  231. MarkCyst says:

It isn’t fun, but it isn’t the U.S., it’s the Republican party. Unfortunately, the seem quite content with dragging everyone else down with them. I honestly can’t wait for these wackos to fade entirely away into the mire from which they crawled. They seem so desperate to cling on to the American psyche, that they don’t even realize how quickly their very actions keep pushing them further into the realm of irrelevance (perhaps not today, but I can guarantee you tomorrow, demographics and social attitudes are not on their side).

  232. FLL says:

This graphic is epic. It captures Palin’s very essence.

  236. FLL says:

Well, it seems that the Confederate trolls are out in force. Please be advised that waving the Confederate flag doesn’t make the rest of the country nervous or fearful. Why should it? There are only two former Confederate states that contribute more revenue to the federal government than they receive from the federal government in revenue: Texas and Florida. Florida has long since been snatched away from Southerners; Anglos from the Yankee states, Hispanics and Blacks outnumber white Southerners, and they have for a very long time. Texas is increasingly Hispanic, and that trend shows no signs of stopping, especially since more Hispanics born in Texas are reaching voting age.

So what’s left? The rest of the former Confederacy would fall on its face economically if it were an independent country. The Confederate flag waving routine is a big bluff. Leave the Union in the 21st century? The so-called Confederates would rather chew ground glass than try to support themselves outside of the United States. Nothing but bluff. Go ahead and wave your silly ass Confederate flag. The rest of the country is laughing at you.

Ah, the old “standing still while blah (in a district where 99% of voters are blah)” intimidation ploy. I tried the “standing still while white (where a majority of voters were white)” ploy in Nov. and not one person took vid of me with their phone, or filed a phony complaint with the DOJ. I don’t understand it. Should I have said “Boo!” to passers by? Did it not work because I only had 50% of the impact since I was alone? Where are those paid R operatives when ya need ’em?

  246. Thom Allen says:

I may have to fold. I only have a birther, a pair of six-shooters and a death panel.

  249. Thom Allen says:

Not allowed. You can only trump with Trump.

  250. Pick6 says:

What you said makes sense, but every time I see something like this coming from teapublicans, I take it as a racist statement. I have no doubt that those at that rally who saw the flag were thinking things that had the “N” word in them and not the most shameful period in our history.

  251. FLL says:

If you think that nobody really cares much about what people do in bed, then how do you explain the non-stop melodrama that took place on the floor of the U.S. Senate during almost all of 2010 when Democrats in Congress were pushing though the repeal of “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell”? Do you think that a bunch of asswipes like John McCain and his fellow conservative Republican senators (and their supporters) supposedly didn’t care what people do in bed? Do you think they had no objection to stopping the witch hunt in the military? McCain and company filibustered, obstructed to the last minute… they did everything but set themselves on fire on the Senate floor in protest. Nice try.

  252. Naja pallida says:

It is a modifier borrowed from German, I think, meaning ‘nothing’.

  253. Pick6 says:

Exactly. The vets are props right now, soon to be tossed aside like the 1st responders who went from heroes to union leeches. RWNJs and the politicians/pundits who lead them are without scruples.

  254. Let'sTrySomeSanity,Please says:

I don’t think there are any veterans in that bunch. Take a look at them “saluting.” Their hands are wrong. And yes, ‘Baggers, there is a right way and a wrong way to salute. Want to see the wrong way? Take a look at your buddies in the photo, top of the page.

  255. Monoceros Forth says:

Just another reminder that the Confederate flag is essentially anti-patriotric in nature. It isn’t just that it’s the symbol of warmongering slaveholders and traitors, although it certainly is that. Waving the Confederate flag is also ultimately an admission that the person waving it does not really love his country. He only loves a piece of it, an increasingly small piece of it.

  256. Naja pallida says:

  266. cribnotes says:

  268. disqus_FeiG1XeEy2 says:

And, don’t forget the fact that you are a Nazi douche!

  269. BeccaM says:

That’s because I’m not obsessively refreshing this page constantly, nor feeling compelled to respond to your revisionist Confederate history drivel.

Tell you what: You articulate the ‘tyranny’ that the Confederate flag stands in opposition to. What ‘freedom’ other than the freedom to own slaves, and to take those slaves outside of the slave states while retaining ownership? Specifically. What was the tyranny of the North that needed to be opposed, if it wasn’t about slavery? You come up with something that isn’t a generalization or revisionist history and maybe we can have an honest debate.

And “history is written by the victors” doesn’t fly either, because the growing abolitionist movement, the controversies of the elections leading up to 1860, the court cases, the objections to allowing slavery in new territories and states, the Southern secession immediately after the 1860 elections, and all the rest are established, objective facts about the events leading to Fort Sumter. Including the fact it was the Confederacy that fired the first shots.

  270. Thom Allen says:

I’ll see you and raise you a: birth control, socialists and Jeebus.

  271. Thom Allen says:

karmanot, you’re kickin’ Tea Party tush tonight! Careful, you’ll cause them brain damage.

  272. CharlieEL says:

Never said I was…you did that.

  273. Thom Allen says:

She even failed at seceding. That’s why she left Alaskan politics.

  274. JustCallMeBill55 says:

I’m sure that some of them would’ve pooped on DC police cars but the cops were furloughed!

  275. karmanot says:

Abortion! Fetuses! First Amendment! etc. and so on. Oh, and Kenya!

  276. alaskan1st says:

It will be OK once the Tea hadists quiet down. Both my teaparty neighbors are completely silent about this shutdown. Not like them to be silent.

  277. karmanot says:

A flagolor is a an ideological unit that doesn’t have enough spine to stand proud and tall. You usually find them crawling out from under bridges with tea bags attached to their amorphous but fascist ideals.

  278. Thom Allen says:

“flagolor” and “communists urn.” He’ll post about Obamba next!

  279. alaskan1st says:

To be fair, that was Tod. She didn’t know what secession meant.

  280. karmanot says:

We are laughing at you Mr. ‘urn’ not with you.

  281. redflagged says:

Oh dear. Watching the United States implode isn’t any fun at all.

  282. gordonsoderberg says:

This is how veterans get used by republicans. They create the problem that causes veterans to get pissed then run out in front of the result to get their picture taken. Thanking the veterans every few seconds and patting each other on the back. You Betcha!

  283. Thom Allen says:

Maybe he meant Fla Gator? He saw Palin’s head in the photo and it reminded him of a football so he switched to sports mode.

  284. alaskan1st says:

If you could see how hard I’m laughing, you’d realize there is no anger.

  285. karmanot says:

    That what decorates the two-fer!

  286. Tess says:

So in your opinion, the best way to hold a rally for US troops is to wave flags off enemy combatants some of those troops died fighting? But hey, if you really just want to upset liberals, you could also go around carrying the Rising Sun flag too, I’m sure that would do the trick.

  287. The_Fixer says:

OK, fine. But what’s a flagolor? I can’t find it in the dictionary.

  288. karmanot says:

Not for yours at any rate.

  289. chrislib says:

Palin: Once a secessionist, always a secessionist.

  290. robo14 says:

I’m glad to see you’s always fun to make the communists urn.

  291. robo14 says:

The writer is yet another arrogant elitist who wants government to control the peasants.good for Palin!confederate flags piss leftists off and I sell anything with the battle flagolors in huge quantities.

  292. The_Fixer says:

Yes, but they don’t get that :)

  293. karmanot says:

Southern Baptists defended slavery as a Biblical right.

  294. alaskan1st says:

First amendment rights allow flag burning.

  295. The_Fixer says:

They’d cry about being denied their first amendment rights to display that flag. You know that’s what they’d do, no matter how incorrect they’d be.

  296. Naja pallida says:

Seems like a good time to do it, the EPA is closed, so you can’t get charged with polluting the air.

  297. CharlieEL says:

  298. Naja pallida says:

There’s a portrait of King George III at the Yorktown Victory Center, because he was a hero of the American Revolution too.

  299. alaskan1st says:

What do suppose would have happened if someone lit one of those confederate flags on fire?

  300. karmanot says:

If the nit fits I call it out—not so sure about the wit though.

  301. alaskan1st says:

They erected a bust of Rush Limbaugh in Missouri that will stand as a reminder to future generations of what happened to the Republican party and why it went the way of the dinosaur. Your point not taken.

  302. Thom Allen says:

There’s a portrait of Benedict Arnold in the Library of Congress so that makes him a hero of the Revolutionary War. There’s no logic behind your post. But that’s not new.

  303. ComradeRutherford says:

It is disingenuous to intimate that the Confederate Flag stood for a better country…

“Confederate flag NEVER flew over any slave ships”

I simply find that hard to believe. Certainly some of the ships flying the traitor’s flag had slaves aboard. Anyway, that argument is also disingenuous because the US flagged slave ships sailed for the benefit of the South, what became the Confederacy. Had the Confederacy won, they would obviously have continued the slave trade.

“killed native Americans to steal their land”

The Traitors were the beneficiaries of having a land already stripped of those pesky natives that made for bad slaves. And they were so short lived that they didn’t have time to slaughter natives. There is no reason to think that the Confederacy would not have slaughtered natives. Even another disingenuous argument.

    “ever committed a single abortion”

Um, yeah. Seeing as how medical abortions are a 20th Century phenomenon this point is completely unnecessary and a non-sequiter. Besides, you are pretending that herbal abortions hadn’t existed for centuries and that women in the Confederacy didn’t partake of those.

“Jim Crow was under the US flag.”

Stripped of their slaves, the South spent another century making sure their former property were treated as subhumans. This would have been the same even if the Stars-n-Bars had flown all that time. That the US flag flew over Jin Crow is pointless, since it was invented and maintained by the Confederacy lovers.

All you have are disingenuous arguments that carefully edge around the truth while taking advantage of facts to extrapolate and suggest a false picture. Had you supplied the full facts the picture would have been clear: The South has now and had then NO respect for non-whites and the non-rich.

PS: Keep Abortion safe and legal.

  304. TNBlueDot says:

I don’t usually feed the trolls – it just encourages you. (But, it’s kinda fun that you got so flustered you responded twice!) I wasn’t choosing your websites, simply politely inviting you to feel free to go away with your, yes, moronic views! As for that, I call ’em like I see ’em… sorry if the truth hurts you! That is all.

  305. karmanot says:

I’m not whining about the Confederate flag, I am SHOUTING out that it is a symbol of treason and should be used for an a** wipe.

  306. alaskan1st says:

    You wish.

  307. CharlieEL says:

can’t help but notice the crickets after I posted the link of the klansman carrying the Us flag…..wish I could post the pic.

  308. Ather says:

Hasn’t Lucifer suffered enough without without having to spend eternity with these Tea Party twits?

  309. GI Joe says:

It is amazing to me that the man who shut down the memorial in the first place and is losing credibility with real American show boats with Palin…..Hey Ted is she your future running mate?

  310. Ather says:

Let’s shut down the Gov. How dare you let us shut down the Gov! We sent CR’s that defy the democratic process. How dare you not cave and unconditionally surrender!
I feel like I’m watching a lame parody of reality. Except this IS reality. This isn’t MAD, Cracked or even SNL. This is actually happening. Even the bad folks on Bizarro World are confused about this nonsense.

  311. Texpat says:

    You are my new hero.

  312. Candice Staebell says:

How do we know they were actually vets?

  313. CharlieEL says:

as opposed to yours Thom? Now that is funny stuff right there.

  314. Roger says:

  315. CharlieEL says:

ha, since a statue of Gen Lee is housed in Statuary Hall in the US capitol, and former Secretary of War and Confederate President Jefferson davis’s portratit hangs in the Pentagon, and since Confederate Veterans are considered American Veterans, um, I would say that NO, they are not traitors…nice try.

  316. jcinco says:

go send sarah your milk money, k?

  317. jcinco says:

her compulsive shaking down of the woefully ignorant is offensive beyond words.

  318. Thom Allen says:

Ah, now the christianist shows his true stigmata!

  319. CharlieEL says:

hahaha, forces of hatred and bigotry. I saw none of that in the pictures in this article….i have however, seen much intolerance and hatred on this thread….

  320. mueizzathecat says:

There is a lot of Americans who are not black folks who see that stupid flag as an INSULT to the entire country, never the less, Southern Idiots who are still fighting the Civil war take it up as their Loadstone every time something “shakes them out their trailers” (probably cause they spilled their cheap beer..) and they are “Off again” making the entire country look like a bunch of total uneducated Morons to the rest of the world while they sit on their drunken butts and wait for their welfare checks, social security and their Food Stamp cards, all from States that “Take more” than they put forever. They are Fools without a ship..

  321. CharlieEL says:

ummm, I have not seen any of that here…..

  322. jcinco says:

pyromaniacs who dash back to the scene where they started the fire to offer to help put it out.

  323. alaskan1st says:

This coming from two idiots that don’t think the Memorial should be funded by the government in the first place.

  324. KingCranky says:

Charlie’s right about one thing, it doesn’t matter, because no matter how much Charlie, or the rest of the “South will rise again” assclowns screech and caterwaul otherwise, the Confederacy lost, a historical fact that can’t be revised.

  325. Thom Allen says:

Naja pallida, don’t confuse poor Charlie with facts. He’s much happier in his own little reality.

  326. aleatharhea says:

In Jefferson Davis’ treason trial, “the defense asked for a dismissal claiming that the Fourteenth Amendment to the U.S. Constitution already punished Davis by preventing him from holding public office in the future and that further prosecution and punishment would violate the double jeopardy restriction of the Fifth Amendment. The court divided in its official opinion and certified the question to the United States Supreme Court. Fearing the court would rule in favor of Davis, Johnson released an amnesty proclamation on December 25, 1868, issuing a pardon to all persons who had participated in the rebellion.”

Also, the government wanted to get on with Reconstruction and not flame further division. Your argument that people who try to destroy the union are not traitors is patently ridiculous and self-serving, CharlieEL.

  327. KingCranky says:

So Lincoln was wrong to fight the Confederacy?

And slavery was a proper form of economic development?

And the Emancipation Proclamation was an example of “tyranny” and ” an over reaching government”?

Poor baby, however do you carry on in the world, still carrying such a grudge against the proper outcome of the Civil War?

  328. mueizzathecat says:

Don’t insult Vietnam VETS by associating all of them with these Losers…

  329. Indigo says:

There’s nothing about them that can legitimately be called legitimate.

  330. mueizzathecat says:

Why not just FLY your NAZI flag and get it over with..

  331. Bill_Perdue says:

The Supreme Court is not progressive, it’s reactionary.

Their attacks on campaign finance reform will end up allowing the rich to dominate politics almost totally. “The U.S. Supreme Court appears poised to strike down most of the remaining limits on massive spending by wealthy donors on political campaigns. … “If these advocate limitations go down, 500 people will control American democracy. It would be ‘government for the 500 people,’ not for anybody else — and that’s the risk,” says Burt Neuborne, law professor and founding legal director of the Brennan Center for Justice at New York University Law School.”

On occasion they do bend to the pressure of mass movements and foreign derision and make real changes as they did in 1954 in Brown v. Board of Education, 347 U.S. 483, almost two decades later in Roe v. Wade, 410 U.S. 113 (1973), and thrifty years after they they struck down sodomy laws in 13 states with Lawrence v. Texas, 539 U.S. 558 and this year they stuck down one section of Bill Clintons DOMA – United States v. Windsor, 570 U.S.

So, on average once every twenty years or so they get something right but most of the time they, like Obama and the Congress, are lap dogs for the rich.

  332. alaskan1st says:

Are you talking to Ted and Sarah?

  333. KingCranky says:

No doubt, a “get my smelling salts and fainting couch” rant, obviously copied & pasted, is sure to carry the day, even though such whining can’t spin away from the reality, the idiots who shut down the government are whining when their policy is carried out.

Excellent job there lil’ trooper, you keep right on reaching for the stars, and who knows, you may even succeed at something, despite your best efforts.

  334. Naja pallida says:

Jefferson Davis was indicted for treason, but pardoned by Andrew Johnson as he was on his way out of the Presidency. The pardon angered a lot of people, but Johnson understood that Reconstruction politics were a lot more complex than simply “they didn’t commit treason because they weren’t tried for it.” The south had to be appeased in order to have a functioning federal government, but that didn’t stop them from passing the 14th Amendment. Which was seen as punitive by the southern states… and still is, apparently.

  335. aleatharhea says:

CharlieEL, your “reasoning” goes that someone is an intolerant hater because they rebuke criminal behavior (destruction and theft), baseless hatred, ignorance, racism, lying, hypocrisy, sedition and attempted coup as an alternative to winning elections or persuading Americans toward their ideas. Your hyperbolic grasping of straws is a perfect microcosm of what is going on in the Republican/Tea party.

  336. mueizzathecat says:

…well if they can Filibuster their own bills why not Protest against themselves too…Next they will have themselves “arrested” for treason….

  337. CharlieEL says:

troll crickets? guess this blog has no room for differing opinions……..nice.

  338. mueizzathecat says:

..couldn’t find a “Nazi flag” to carry so they went for the “Stars and bars” like all good Morons do..

  339. Dane says:

What a bunch of idiots, thing about it though is if those were occupy people the police would have been there roughing them up, and arresting them.

  340. Boohoohoo! says:

You will all burn in hell you opportunistic, self-serving idiots.

  341. mueizzathecat says:

..till their Social Security checks don’t show up November 1st and 3rd…then they will be “Ready to use their 2nd amendment solutions”..only they will have to “Shoot themselves” to get rid of the problem they have created being really really gullible and stupid…

  342. lynchie says:

Don’t you remember the North beat your asses all the way to Georgia. Unfortunately we let you surrender. We don’t let the flags of this countries enemies fly here to be worshipped by brain dead hucksters. Tell me what checks do you and your family get every month and are you sending them back un–cashed…thought not. Do something productive and don’t reproduce

  343. Carl W. Roden says:

    Intolerant….what you said so.

  344. mueizzathecat says:

Oh I see…it was just the KKK Meeting that got cancelled last week..

  345. CharlieEL says:

I’m interested in this site b/c I was drawn here by the story and I have been following the events. Not sure why you should have a say in what sites I go to to get my info. Contribute nothing substantive? Because you don’t like it I guess that makes my input unsubstantive…okay, whatever. You call my views moronic…real mature. I disagree wiht many views on here but Idon’t call them moronic. Unpleasant for me? Not at all…for you and others who disagree with me, maybe, but not for me…..

  346. Mike Scott says:

What a bunch of nut jobs!

  347. KingCranky says:

Teabaggers will never be accused of an over-reliance on “logical consistency”.

  348. KingCranky says:

Confederate flags also make great doormats.

  349. Thom Allen says:

Whether or not anyone was hanged for treason has no bearing at all.

  350. KingCranky says:

The far-right knuckle-draggers. like those at NOM, insistently whining to keep marriage a heterosexual-only institution disprove your pathetic blather.

Do you always debunk yourself so spectacularly, or only on special occasions?

  351. CharlieEL says:

I’ve seen pictures of black African rebels carrying the Confederate Flag, i saw the Confederate flag at the Wall in Berlin….so, tell me again how it’s not a universal symbol of resistance to tyranny…..

  352. CharlieEL says:

Oh, that’s original…since no one, from President Jefferson Davis down to the lowliest private was tried, convicted or hung for treason. Nice try.

  353. CharlieEL says:

    way to deflect Marcus.

  354. BeccaM says:

Yeah, well, they’re still doing the “birther Muslim” thing. Obviously they’re immune to truth, facts, and reality.

  355. PROGRAMER1951 says:

So your saying Obama has served in the Military due to his beijng Commander in Chief?

  356. Marcus Scottus says:

It is the universal symbol of hate, bigotry and greed. In that respect it is in a photo finish with the flag of the Nazi party.

Which reminds me. The answer to all of your posts should always be “yeah…the presidnet has dark skin…get over it, fascist”

  357. Candice Staebell says:

you are right – Mr. Haney! Good job.

  358. Marcus Scottus says:

    Or indeed anything at all.

After all they’re the anti-education folk.

  359. Thom Allen says:

  360. Marcus Scottus says:

“Whining” about the flag of oppression and bigotry and hatred?

Yeah those slaves were just a bunch of cry babies.

  361. BeccaM says:

No, you’re right, it doesn’t. Because in truth the Confederate flag isn’t a ‘universal’ symbol of resistance to tyranny. It’s only that to people like yourself, who have romanticized a horrific war that very nearly destroyed the United States. And whose answer to a democratic process that doesn’t go your way 100% of the time is to constantly threaten secession and violent revolution.

What ‘tyranny’ was resisted by the Confederacy, I ask? Was it Constitutional rights in the south being abridged by the nasty northern states? Free speech being abridged? Firearms being seized? Property being seized?

    Right, property: As in slaves.

As near as the rest of us can tell, the only tyranny being resisted was the right of southern plantation owners to own human beings. That was the ‘property’ the Confederate South felt was being taken from them, and the impetus for the entire Civil War. There wasn’t any other issue of note. When the Confederacy was losing badly and decided to offer surrender terms, the only thing they asked for was the right to keep their slaves. That’s it. Says a hell of a lot as to priorities, don’t you think?

You may be proud of that flag, but African Americans aren’t — because the Confederate flag was used most often by the Klan, the Birchers, and other racists in their campaigns of terror. The non-Confederate states aren’t proud of it. And in truth, before Bush and his gang of war criminals began trashing our reputation all over the globe, it was the American flag that was seen as a symbol of freedom and liberty, not the flag of the seditious slave-holding Confederate States of America.

  362. Marcus Scottus says:

That’s right. We should shut up and let the forces of hatred and bigotry go unopposed.

Tolerance is a two way street. The golden rule works perfectly. When you break it, you get called out.

  363. Thom Allen says:

That question is moot. She never has thought, just look at her post.

  364. Marcus Scottus says:

Yeah but she’d get to do her carnival barker act for the terrified, fearful, gun-pervert paranoid dupes, rubes and patsies who make up Tea Qaeda.

  365. Marcus Scottus says:

    Filthy, disingenuous right wing vermin.

So a normal day for Tea Qaeda insurgents.

If normal people had taken those gates and done that we’d be arrested.

  366. alaskan1st says:

Call me intolerant but I burn confederate flags.

  367. It’s the flag of treason, you know. There was a big war against the United States about 150 years ago, or hadn’t you heard?

  368. alaskan1st says:

    But she went AWOL.

  369. CharlieEL says:

racist protester? what, because he had a Confederate flag? You are stereotyping and making assumptions. If he was yelling racial epithets and carring the Confederate flag, you might have a point, but hate groups also carry the US flag…so, your point?

  370. OmeletTheDogOut says:

“Point of fact: Neither Palin nor Cruz have actually served in the military,…”
Well wait a minute now, wasn’t Palin Supreme Commanding Field Marshall of the Alaska National Guard during a time we were not invaded by Russia?

  371. Thom Allen says:

    And brains.

  372. vonlmo says:

The 47% Moocher Brigade protests the lack of an entitlement check, food stamps & GI education benefits.

  373. Thom Allen says:

“Committed an abortion”? You’re positive of that little gem, are you? And, WTF does that have to do with this thread? Or did you dream you knocked Palin up and she flushed the little troll?

  374. CharlieEL says:

    Doesn’t change anything.

  375. rewinn says:

i’m *laughing* at the confederate flag. it’s the flag of losing.

  376. Trilln451 says:

“make a sham of our political process”

    AH-HA-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha good one!

  377. rewinn says:

“I pledge allegiance to myself, and to the bank account for which I stand”…

  378. BeccaM says:

Plus campaigning would get in the way of her compulsive grifting.

  379. Thom Allen says:

I’ll bet many of the “vets” there are about as much ex-military as Caribou Barbie is. BTW, the USA never ‘had” Viet Nam, hence they couldn’t lose it.

  380. alaskan1st says:

That would be too easy and it would make a sham of our political process.

  381. docsterx says:

Thanks, I’ve been trying to think of who he reminded me of. Though, for some reason, Arnold Ziffel comes to mind, too. Or maybe that’s when he’s paired with Palin.

  382. CharlieEL says:

Let’s see, I was drawn to this link b/c I am very interested in what’s going ontoday, need you deciding what websites I should go to to get my news. I am very intereste in the discussion…apparently it is you and others who would rather bash differing points of view…you know, the ones you call moronic. While i don’t agree with you, I don’t call your views morinic. unpleasant for me? no, for you maybe, but not me. Again, you don’t hold a monopoly on this thread.

  383. dollars4dullards says:

Actually, I think Cruz looks like Pat Buttram, the actor who was Gene Autry’s sidekick, and played the sleazy “entrepreneur” Mr. Haney on the sitcom Green Acres. Kind of has that built in whine in his voice, too. I have a lot of fun listening to Cruz speak nonsense and imagining that the words are coming out of Mr. Haney’s mouth.

  384. TNBlueDot says:

Why are you interested in this website? You contribute nothing substantive to the discussion. In fact, you don’t appear at all interested in a discussion… just spouting your moronic views. I’m sure I’m not alone in saying you’re welcome not to come here any more since it’s so unpleasant for you.

  385. Van Williamson says:

    Cruz/Palin in ’16? Please god.

  386. BeccaM says:

(Alaska National Guard Maj. Gen. Craig Campbell) said he and Palin play no role in national defense activities, even when they involve the Alaska National Guard. The entire operation is under federal control, and the governor is not briefed on situations.

There’s a title, which is associated with civilian oversight of the military. And then there’s actual military service. That fellow just below me, Pappyvet. He served, and with honor and distinction.

Sarah Palin squeaked in as elected governor of one of our nation’s least populated states, then quit when she felt like it. That’s not service. That’s serving one’s own ambitions and selfish desires. She wouldn’t know the concept of ‘duty’ if it hit her on the ass.

  387. Cloyd Dowling says:

    clearly he doesn’t…

favorite part of it all was the part where he talks about people leaving trash and spit cups at the memorials they’re protesting at

  388. CharlieEL says:

    Whose, yours? LOL!

  389. Robin DeAnne Lowry Seer says:

Very well stated! I have never seen such a bunch of fearful people in my life until now! The sad thing is they don’t realize that the fear manufactured by the NRA , Koch bros, etc to line their own pockets!

  390. CharlieEL says:

Oooh, nitwit? Name calling now? Just how old are you?

  391. CharlieEL says:

Just like I will remember those who died at Camp Douglas in Chicago, better known as 80 Acrs of Hell.

  392. CharlieEL says:

No, seems the ones with the ouchies are those whining about the Confederate flag. As for trolling, I didn’t realize flag haters and other intolerants on here had a monopoly on this thread. Don’t like comments you don’t agree withy hen I guess it’s you that ought to be heading out. LOL

  393. CharlieEL says:

Well what do you know, a klan fool with a US Flag….I guess we new to trash Old Glory now…..right???

  394. The_Fixer says:

You forgot the Bible and the specially written revisionist history textbooks they sell to the church-affiliated home schoolers. You know, the ones that say the earth is only 6,000 years old and carbon dating is a fraud. Oh yeah, they also say that Civil War was only about state’s rights.

  395. pappyvet says:

    ouch !

  396. jrconner says:

Sarah, Ted, and the Confederate flag, just marched closer to the White House than Robert E. Lee and Nathan Bedford Forrest ever did.

  397. Naja pallida says:

The last verified Confederate veteran died in, I believe, 1951. There have been several claims after that, all of which have since been debunked, or simply never had actual proof of their service. Even though the government did pay benefits, and some states even continue to honor some of the imposters. The amendment to the Veterans’ Benefit Act of 1957 was basically a final act of contrition to appease southern supporters in Congress.

  398. pappyvet says:

Yeah right. “Stop defending yourself so I wont have to hurt you again.” As I’ve said before,it no longer works.

“We need to execute people like John Walker in order to physically intimidate liberals, by making them realize that they can be killed too.” Ann Coulter

  399. The_Fixer says:

I always love to read this accusation. It was tired and foolish the first time I read it, and it gets no less tiresome and foolish on the 5,958,623 time I read it.

  400. YgBluig says:

What the fuck are Palin and Cruz pledging allegiance to in the photo caption? Can they legitimately call for the overthrow of the government while mindlessly reciting the Pledge of Allegiance (I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United State of American AND TO THE REPUBLIC FOR WHICH IT STANDS…)?
Who am I kidding? They can mindlessly do whatever they want to do, as they have demonstrated time and time again.
May god bless us and protect us from these publicity-craving morons.

  401. Pete McDonald says:

Palin is literally a wh ore. She will sell herself in any way to get ahead. She sickens me.

  402. pappyvet says:

I’ll remember that when thinking of those family members who survived Andersonville.

  408. CharlieEL says:

Funny all the intolerant haters on this thread. All the vitriol and name calling. Proving yet again that the folks who call for diversity and respect really don’t mean it unless they agree with it.

  409. karmanot says:

“the victor writes the history and it’s obvious you all have been reading their text books.” That is true nitwit.

  410. MyrddinWilt says:

England never fought the US, Britain did. And Hawaii has the flag of the United Kingdom. And Britain won the war of 1812, burning down Washington just to show that it could. The reason that the US got good terms was that the UK was busy fighting Napoleon and the Foreign Secretary believed that imposing punitive terms would be counterproductive in the long run.

Unfortunately the reason that it is necessary to rout the GOP over the debt crisis is that if they are allowed to believe they have won they will do the same stuff all over again.

And no, Germans do not honor the NAZI flag, in fact it is a crime in Germany to display one. The Confederate flag stood for the same thing then and stands for the same thing today.

  411. CharlieEL says:

I feel great and expected no less on this liberal and intolerant website. It’s not my fault you been drinking the kool aid. Remember, the victor writes the history and it’s obvious you all have been reading their text books.

  412. BeccaM says:

    Not really, no.

  413. CharlieEL says:

Confederate Veterans are considered American Vets by law….And we honor veterans, dead or alive, genius.

  414. MyrddinWilt says:

I think he looks like he is about to burst into tears all the time. Its the insincere look of concern that he plasters on his face has stretched the muscles all wrong.

Meanwhile, take a look at what Joh McCain’s buddy Joe the Plumber is up to:

Of course thats not racism, juts like flying the NAZI flag and goose-stepping isn’t racist. And nobody would think that flying the confederate flag meant anything other.

    They are such appalling people.

I couldn’t help but notice a Pledge of Allegiance. No way could the real words make any sense in their world. I’m thinking something like this:
I pledge allegiance to the flag of the country we just shutdown. And to the anarchist groups which support our cause. 50 separate states, under a Christian God, with liberty and justice for those who distort the Bible.

  428. The_Fixer says:

  429. Billy Bearden says:

South Vietnamese lost their country, but they still honor their flag. USA lost Viet Nam, but the days of calling them baby killers, etc… is long past. So a Commander-In-Chief, while leading the military and making military decisions, is still technically a CIVILIAN.

A CIVILIAN, by definition, is not military.

So no, Palin did NOT serve in the military.

    H.R. 466 – Wounded Veteran Job Security Act became H. R. 2875.
    H.R. 1168 — Veterans Retraining Act
H.R. 1171 – Homeless Veterans Reintegration Program Reauthorization

Those of us who actually know vets also know that they’re not exclusively stupid.

We also know that a lot of them go into the service with the greatest of intentions and a true desire to do right, and come back disillusioned at what they’ve seen.

We also know that they don’t come back and wear tri-cornered hats and march with the likes of Caribou Barbie and her buddies. Because they have a brain, and because they care about the direction that this country has taken.

Unfortunately, a few of the non-thinking ones have messed it up for the ones who actually do care and want to defend true American ideals.

It really pisses me off that Vets are portrayed as exclusively stupid.

Yep, the troll crickets just woke up.

  461. fletcher says:

    I’ll bet he’s all a quiver.

  462. ComradeRutherford says:

That was the Olden Days, before Saint Reagan elevated the Police to paramilitary status.

  463. BeccaM says:

Is it a coincidence or does Ted Cruz look a bit like Joe McCarthy.

You’re not the first to notice the resemblance. Both in appearance and in political philosophies.

  464. maria says:

Do you suppose she went to boob camp instead? She is such a source of hilarity for reasons she doesn’t quite get.

  465. The_Fixer says:

Yes, I am sure she went through boot camp to do it.

Oh, and she didn’t even complete her “term of service”.

    Some “commander”!

  466. karmanot says:

    That’s it exactly

  467. pappyvet says:

Is it a coincidence or does Ted Cruz look a bit like Joe McCarthy.

I am a disabled Vet. A wounded warrior if you will. I have difficulty walking.. More and more the older I get. I have worked a regular job just like everyone else since I got home.

    These fellow Vets who walk with the likes of Palin and Cruz are barking up the wrong tree. But it does illustrate that it does not matter what a person has done. It matters what that person has inside of themselves. We now live in a country where a mere 10% controls 90% of the wealth. That’s not freedom. A country where hate filled mouthpieces spew lies and filth like the following;

After four peace activists were taken hostage in Iraq”,And some of you might say, “Rush, that’s horrible. Peace activists taken hostage.” Well, here’s why I like it. I like any time a bunch of leftist feel-good hand-wringers are shown reality. So here we have these peace activists over there. I don’t care if they’re Christian or not.” Rush Limbaugh

“I would have no problem with [New York Times editor Bill Keller] being sent to the gas chamber.”
    Melanie Morgan

“I repeat: Should the entire American Left fall over dead tomorrow, I would rejoice, and order pizza to celebrate. They are not my countrymen; they are animals who happen to walk upright and make noises that approximate speech. They are below human. I look forward to seeing each and every one in Hell.” Red State contributor Thomas Crown

And the list goes on and on. For decades this type of hate filled verbal terrorism has screamed it’s message of Us Vs.Them mythology. And many have listened. Many bathed in the poison willingly.

Why ? Because the acid that eats them has been given a new name. Patriotism.
And that hatred lets them overlook the following.

“The Park Service should be ashamed of themselves.” –Rep. Randy Neugebauer (R-TX), scolding a park ranger for closing the World War II Memorial, after HE VOTED to close the memorial as part of the Republican government shutdown.
Why? Because he is one of “Us” not one of “Them.”
    So they feel perfectly fine walking around with teabagger’s who carry signs like these;
Why? Because it’s a hate thing. A fear thing. A lie thing. But it’s far from an American thing.

  468. wordupmag says:

Typical uneducated trailer talk. The Confederate flag is a universal symbol of oppression…you big idiot!

  469. alaskan1st says:

  470. karmanot says:

    Right On!

  471. ComradeRutherford says:

“Confederate flag, a universal symbol of resistance to tyranny and an over reaching government”

100% BS! The Confederate Flag is a universal symbol of treason, racism and slavery.

  472. CharlieEL says:

Nice name calling and that is not the stars and bars, LOL

  473. Well it’s worked for the GOP before. Lie a lot, every day, and hope people finally believe it. Death panels and Sarah Palin being a viable candidate for any office come to mind. (Well, okay, even Republicans never believed the second one.)

  474. BeccaM says:

…a Confederate flag, a universal symbol of resistance to tyranny support for slavery and racism…

    There, fixed it for you.

  475. karmanot says:

Must be home school with crayons and sound-outs Fixer.

  476. BeccaM says:

Because nothing says you love America more than waving the flag of secession and using the rhetoric of racism, bigotry, and revolution, right?

Funny how you object to the services and functions of the federal government being shut down when shutdown was what you and your fellow Tea Baggers demanded.

Here’s your small government for you: Nobody on duty to deal with the trash and litter. Nobody to clean up the restrooms. Nobody to fix things in the parks when they break. Nobody to serve as security to ensure hooligans don’t damage the parks and monuments. Nobody to pay for the electricity to light up those parks and memorials, or the water for the fountains, or to fix them when assholes throw shit into them. Nobody to patrol to ensure the safety of visitors.

Yeah, so they have to pay for a couple guards at the gates to keep people out. But that’s far less expensive than paying for the dozens, if not hundreds of employees necessary to keep a major monument, park, or memorial up and running.

You demanded a shut down. This is what a shut down is: The federal government stops doing all the things you take for granted. If you don’t like it, I hope you choke on what you and your allies have been doing.

And by the way: The VA is going to run out of benefits money in a couple weeks. Object to that? Or do you think that funding appears magically, too, like the unpaid elves who apparently take care of all our nation’s parks.

  477. ComradeRutherford says:

    Learn your Civil War history.

  479. karmanot says:

A highly successful try considering that rag of a flag stands for the southern war of treasonous aggression.

  480. As for gay rights, we we never took the paychecks away from hundreds of thousands of middle class federal employees. We never took cancer treatment away from people who are dying. And we never took the entire world economy hostage. You did. You’re free to practice civil disobedience. You are not free, however, to take our economy hostage and threaten to crash it into a building. That makes you a terrorist and a traitor.

  481. ComradeRutherford says:

Cut-n-paste the same thing over and over again, yeah, that’ll work!!!

  482. ComradeRutherford says:

Hence the reason I call them TeaBirchers.

  483. fletcher says:

HAHAHAHAHA! The Confederate flag is the symbol of a bunch of wealthy plantation owners throwing a fit at losing a cheap source of forced labor. Your definition is literally gone with the windbags.

  484. ComradeRutherford says:

Nuh-uh, there’s ONE non-white … somewhere! That PROVES that the Right are completely inclusive and not Lilly White!!!

And for my next trick, I’ll call the US Flag, the ‘Confederate’ flag!

    Suddenly, ABORTION!!!!!!!!!

There, I think I’ve met the Conservative Checklist…

  485. Did any of you ask the racist protesters to leave? I didn’t think so. Second, just watched the video again, they were thrown. In addition to the fact that you stole them from public property. As for an understanding of how our government works, you’re defending economic terrorists. You’re defending sedition. And you’re defending people who hate America, its people, and everything this country stands for. I don’t care how many CR’s they proposed, you never, EVER, threaten to bring down the world economy and destroy not only our entire retirement savings when the economy collapses after we default on the debt, but also get all of our homes foreclosed on, in addition to sentencing us of decades of economic recovery. Ever. You are defending hostage-takers, and you are defending terrorists. I don’t care how many attempts you think the Republicans made, which they most certainly did not. You are defending terrorists who have threatened to take the American economy, and our people, hostage. And you should be ashamed of yourselves.

  486. Billy Bearden says:

Wonder why John Kerry wasn’t molested when he tossed his purple heart over the same fence?

  487. CharlieEL says:

LOL, so a guy shows up at the rally with a Confederate flag, a universal symbol of resistance to tyranny and an over reaching government and you label the entire group as racist and that Cruz and Palin are in cahoots. Dude, you’re stretching to besmirch what te real underlying issue is but obviously that would totally undermine your position. Nice try.

  488. LOL Right. When she saw Russia from her kitchen.

  489. Billy Bearden says:

In the top pic with a red line thru his face is a African American Veteran. Lilly White indeed.
Yes, the same Confederate Flag that flew at the downfall of Shuri Castle in WW2, the same Confederate flag that flew at the downfall of the Berlin Wall, the same Confederate flag that traveled with US Troops in all wars since 1941.

I did see lots of the style of flags that flew over 89 years of legal slavery in AMerica, the style of flag that flew over the genocide of millions of Native Americans, the style of flag that flew over legal Jim Crow and segregation, the same flag that flies over 70,000,000 aborted children – the United States Stars and Stripes.

  490. karmanot says:

  494. fletcher says:

  495. karmanot says:

  496. karmanot says:

Simple fact: This BS about John ain’t gonna work here troll-fly.

  497. tryst18th says:

This account by John A., of the civil disobedience at the Lincoln Memorial,
fails on three accounts: falsehoods, partisan bootlicking, and petty slander.
I’ll deal with the petty slander first — his breathless mentioning of the Confederate flag
in the title. He should know as well as anyone, that in a free and open society,
one can not control the variety of expression of the participants in a demonstration.
In fact, several weeks ago, he was critical of the “flopping penises” demonstrators
that show up at gay rights rallies (though in fairness to John, I believe he aid
he would certainly welcome such a display in the privacy of his own home).
So, he should know that the Confederate flag is not necessarily endorsed or rejected
by Sara Palin, Mike Lee, and Ted Cruz.

Secondly, falsehoods. Protestors did not “throw barricades at the White House”.
They stacked them outside the fence. His transformation of that simple act of
civil disobedience, into an act of violence, is perfectly in synch with the
worst propaganda tactics of oppressive governments throughout history.

During the gay rights struggle, Dan Choi chained himself to the White House

fence. I don’t recall John’s report of “trained military killer damages White
House property” (i.e. scratches on the fence).

Which brings us to partisan bootlicking. The GOP has submitted several
budgets, partial and otherwise, to the Senate. That is their right and
prerogerative per the U.S. Constitution (though I don’t fault John on his
lack of knowledge of Constitutional separation of powers. John’s education
and training is in foreign relations, and thus he can’t be expected to have
either an academic or practical knowledge of U.S. law).

But John attacks the GOP for shutting down the World War II memorial.
The memorial, which belongs to the American people, is normally open
24 hours a day (not administratively, but practically). Likewise the
Lincoln Memorial (I myself have visited it, unhindered, at 1am).

No, the costly closure of US memorials and parks (i.e. barriers put
in place where there were none, and roads blocked that are never
blocked, and guards paid, where no guards existed before), is solely the
responsibility of the White House. Again, for John’s edification on
US government structure, the national parks and memorials are
managed by the Department of the Interior. The Secretary of the
Interior reports to the President. (Once US govt websites are back
on line, I encourage John to review the govt organizational structure
so he can avoid making simple mistakes in his blogs).

But John’s apparent lack of understanding of American government
does not excuse the fact that he would side with the Democrats and
take issue with simple, brave acts of civil disobedience. It shows
that he is partisan in his reaction to government power. When civil
protests and disobedience are used for gay rights, John is completely
    in favor.

But it is used against advocates of liberty, lower taxes, and
balanced budgets, John is more than willing to take the
    side of massive, armed, power.

But, of course, we’ve known for years, that AmericaBlog is not

“The colored man looms large in the Communist plan to take over America” and that “public welfare was a secret plot to attract rural blacks and Puerto Ricans to Eastern cities to vote for Communist causes and “getting a vicious race war started.”

Does any of this sound familiar? It should, because this is exactly what Tea Partiers spout on the Internet everyday.

  508. karmanot says:

    good one chef!

  509. dhough1976 says:

The Tea Party was seen as a corrosive, disastrous movement for America years ago. This website tried to warn America, but no one listened!!

  510. FieryLocks says:

Of course, got to fly the good ole Confederate flag. Can’t have a shit ton of lily whites without the Stars and Bars! Hey GOPigs, the whole shut down is yours, YOU BUILT THAT…now own it you fucking clowns.

  511. ca_rickf says:

    Federal police are on furlough.

  512. karmanot says:

“Do liberals think of anything besides sex?’ The answer is Yes. we think about how inadequate conservatives are in such matters. Somebody has to.

  513. ca_rickf says:

Caribou Barbie is one of the most pathetic Americans of all times. Don’t even get me started on that Canadian economic terrorist.

  514. karmanot says:

The Confederate flag symbolizes ‘The Southern War of Treasonous Aggression.

  515. Quilla says:

Theft of government property and an attack on the White House? Why haven’t these wingnuts been arrested yet?

  516. karmanot says:

Hey down arrow—shove it where the moose don’t shine.

  517. BeccaM says:

Don’t know much about the operation and upkeep of parks and monuments, do you?

  518. karmanot says:

The message is clear, while many of these nitwits are fools, their leaders are not. Palin, Ted Cruise and the like are seditious radicals, who want to bring down the American Federal Government. They should be prosecuted as enemies of the State or traitors. These are dangerous people. Remember the Wiemar Republic.

  519. Rob Collins says:

The tea party is the new confederacy. Hopefully they die off before we have to stomp them back down again.

  520. Dontazemebro says:

Oh please, no one cares what two men do to their rectums in the privacy of their bedroom. No one stays up at night worrying about the ENDA. Do liberals think of anything besides sex? I wonder. It seems to preoccupy their every waking moment.

  521. Dontazemebro says:

There is no reason at all to shut down the memorials. They require no more maintenance then the rest of the National Mall which is open.

  522. alaskan1st says:

    She’s Baaaaack.

  523. BeccaM says:

Clearly she has no idea how the budget process works. Congress set things up so that the Pentagon can’t just say, “We’ll defund this weapon over here and use the money for this other thing.”

Then again, it’s obvious that complicated ideas and accurate information makes the Baggers’ brains hurt.

  524. FunMe says:

SO true. Those who are hurting our country are major hypocrites.

  525. ComradeRutherford says:

Bush II set the standard for GOP lawbreaking really, freakin’ high.

  526. ComradeRutherford says:

Double-Think: The ability to hold two contradictory ideas in one’s mind at the same time, see no conflict between the two, and threaten death to anyone that points out the hypocrisy.

  527. ComradeRutherford says:

Yeah, if a non-Conservative crowd tossed barricades over the fence at the White House, they all be tasered to death. Republicans ARE above the law.

  528. jcinco says:

palin and cruz, go back to the scene of the crime… they’re like a pyro who sets a fire and then returns to “help” put out the fire. Americans are smarter than you think you traitors to our country.

  529. Mo Reno says:

As painful as it is for us trying to read her comments, probably.

  530. Chef Kowalski says:

As Tea Party people are mostly Southerners, do you suppose they copied their tactics in shutting down the government from Mayberry and The Andy Griffith Show? Seen occasionally on the show was the hillbilly Darling Family. And Father Darling once offered the following recipe for a roast pork dinner:
    Stampede hog into a house.
Close off all doors and windows.
    Set fire to house.
Find cooked hog in smoldering remains.
    Feeds 10.
Yep, the Tea Party is burning down the government to get some tiny concession that keeps getting tinier as they go forward.

  531. Tyroanee says:

And I ask where was the rampant pepper spray such as the Davis peaceful rally???? These Americans are disrespectful to our property yet walk?

  532. Danalan says:

I wondered when we’d hear from that attention whore again.

  533. cole3244 says:

when i see these protests i think are these people diluted or just plain stupid, then i read their signs and there is my answer.
ps – as a liberal & a vet most of the time veterans embarrass me by their ignorance and disrespect for my govt, dem lead govt that is.

  534. ArthurH says:

Or that the budget being pushed by Rep. Paul Ryan makes major slashes in funding for the VA. Methinks that Cruz, Palin et al won’t want to be around when the Vets find out this truth as they might experience how those telephone books felt when Charles Atlas picked them up.

  535. Indigo says:

That’s a good point, she’s not aging well, poor thing.

  536. Indigo says:

Without cognitive dissonance, the right wing wouldn’t have a message.

  537. Nur Alia binti Ahmad says:

There is another film of a man with a pair of bolt cutters to cut plastic ‘zip ties’ to separate the crowd control barriers.
    Now, that was funny.

  538. KatieAnnieOakley says:

I believe this image comes to mind:

  539. BeccaM says:

I also wonder how many of those veterans realize the shutdown being cheered by their Tea Bagger leaders will result in the VA running out of benefits money in just a couple weeks.

  540. chris10858 says:

Since Tea Partyers are always quick to cite the Judeo-Christian God, of which I am a believer as well, then I’d like to make a comparison of them to the holier-than-thou religious leaders in the New Testament who would stand out in the public view with their wailing and public displays of piety. It was these same folks though that got upset when Jesus healed the woman on the Sabbath.

In the same story, Jesus rebuked those religious and political leaders as hypocrites.

It seems people like Sarah Palin, Ted Cruz, and so many other conservatives still ascribe to this philosophy today. They will protest the closure of a memorial made of concrete and steel yet will ignore the needs of the sick, the needy, and the elderly amongst us. They are as guilty as the leaders back in Jesus’ time.

  541. BeccaM says:

Hang on a sec there pardner! Now we’re back to the Tea Baggers saying the shutdown is a good thing.

Then in the next breath, they blame Obama and the Dems for the shutdown’s negative effects.

The cognitive dissonance makes my head spin. As does the use of the Confederate flag.

  542. PeteWa says:

just exactly how painful is it for you when you attempt to think?

  543. Mo Reno says:

Flying the Confederate flag is the opposite of respecting our veterans. Especially since the Confederacy was crushed long before the rise of the Nazis and the tragedy of WWII.

  544. cribnotes says:

You shut down the government and then you bitch about it being shut down? Could you be any more annoying?

  545. TheOriginalLiz says:

It’s depressing to realize just how many incredibly stupid people there are in this country – they fall for the GOP bs over and over and over again and never learn.

  546. says:

That black guy is thinking to himself, ” All these white folk just loooooove me!”

  547. says:

What a sickening photo of Pailin & Cruz. Knowing what a couple of faux-patriots they are, it just looks like they’re doing Nazi salutes to me.

  548. kevinbgoode says:

Well, just like their inability to process a complete thought, they clearly can’t count to a million, or perhaps once the likes of Cruz and Sarah reach the number “10” on their fingers and thumbs, they automatically jump to a “million.”

Their prostitution of the military (and certainly our vets) just reminds me once again of the outrageous, nearly out-of-control hero worship of anyone who ever enlisted for four years and spent their time filing papers in some base office. To listen to the GOP, anyone who ever joined the military was there to “fight for our freedoms” (our at least those of our corporate citizens) instead of, you know, looking for some kind of employment opportunity or job training skills or a way to make ends meet in a crappy-ass economy.

You can bet that the REAL veterans, or those who might have actually experienced defending my “freedoms” in World War II, are sitting in a nursing home (or, if lucky, still in their own homes) wondering if they’ll still be able to get their benefits and meals-on-wheels because of the shutdown, and they sure as hell can’t afford to go to the Washington on their own. Those Honor Flights are funded by donations from the general public, and they were started far too late for most of that war’s veterans to ever get to see the memorial. I wonder how much Palin and Cruz has ever contributed to an Honor Flight – and how many WWII vets these grifters have ever visited or delivered a meal in order to make sure the real veterans were actually taken care of in this country.

It behooves me to observe this staged “protest” and think these people actually believe the American public is so gullible as to think these self-proclaimed “patriots” waving the confederate flag (which, by the way, is no symbol of loyalty to defending AMERICAN liberty) spent their careers yearning to “defend our freedoms” and that was their primary reason for ever joining the military. Even worse, few of the people in this gaggle of confederate whiners looks like they were even born during World War II, let alone ever serve in a real war to “defend my freedoms.” They don’t have any issue with collecting every discount, every educational benefit, every socialized access to medical services, and any other perk they can get for their four years of “service” – for most of them serving well after the draft ended, THAT was likely more motivation than some conjured up right-wing notion of divine gallantry over some vague “defending my freedoms” meme.

  549. bbayliss says:

How about the fact that when you shut down the government you really don’t get to choose which parts are reopened.

The fact that those who planned the shut down now protest it’s consequences should be informative.

  550. FLL says:

The Confederate flags are an indication that the obstructionist, Tea Party portion of the GOP Congress is heavily Southern. They fear that the slight progressive majority on the Supreme Court will soon find reason to establish marriage equality nationwide. But most of all, the Southern obstructionists fear the as soon as the Democrats regain control of the House, ENDA will pass, bringing equality to the workplace in Southern states. To Southern obstructionists, this is a looming disaster. As long as Boehner holds the speaker’s gavel, they’re safe from ENDA. The Republican House leadership may indeed survive the 2014 elections, but since American politics is forever cyclical, their days are numbered.

  551. Tawnee Cowan says:

The death benefits is the Pentagon (President) problem, they had the funds. Get your facts straight.

  552. Vaporizer says:

It could be funny if it wasn’t so disgusting.

  553. lynchie says:

No longer any doubt in my mind the Palin, Lee, Cruz, Gohmert, oh hell the whole fucking GOP are bat shit crazy and in breach of the law. They realize if they invoke god no one will criticize them. Well let me be the first to say it. Screw your god, screw your lying, bigoted, useless shit heads. I blame McCain for making Palin somehow legitimate. We are obsessed with reality shows which are all scripted, the non talent, money grubbing Kardashians whose only claim to fame is Kim’s sex tape where she imitated the blob from outer space and the ability to have children out of wedlock. We really need to clean up this group. Put them all in Texas and Alaska where they belong and put up a fence on the borders. Christ on a donut we have lost all semblance of sanity.

  554. lilyannerose says:

It’s obvious that Sarah is getting older and I don’t think Sarah realizes that once a woman hits her 50’s no one pays them any attention any more. It’s not going to be the fall of the tea idiots that puts Sarah back into the Alaskan Frontier it’s going to the the sun rising and setting which marks time.
