Chinese grandpa becomes sensation after modeling teen-girl clothes for grandkid’s store

72 year old Chinese grandpa Liu Xianping was simply helping his granddaughter mix and match clothes for a photoshoot  to promote her teenage clothing e-store, Yuekou.

The granddaughter thought it was funny, so they started shooting grandpa in her various teeny-bopper outfits, then she decided to post the modeling photos on her Web store.

The rest is history.

Granddad in drag has gone viral, and the girl has seen her sales quintuple.  I love the quote he gave about all of this:

“Why unacceptable (for someone like me to wear women’s clothes? Modelling for the store is helping my granddaughter and I have nothing to lose. We were very happy on the day of the shooting. I’m very old and all that I care about is to be happy.”

I have to admit, grandpa looks good in the clothes.  Or as my friend Ryan wrote on Facebook, “fierce.”

It’s fascinating to think of a Chinese grandpa helping blur gender roles.  And I love how grandpa is just mixed in with the other teen-girl models on the page, like it’s nothing:

Grandpa also did a Gangnam Style shot for the top of the site:

In case you aren’t familiar with the video sensation Grandpa is parodying, it’s this video, it’s great – the video has 766 million views. Here’s the screen shot he’s parodying, and below is the video:

Considering how good Grandpa looks, I’m considering the scarf and mini-cape as my new look.

  10. Much better without the wigs and the poses made me giggle. If she made them in bear sizes I’d buy an outfit.

  11. Good question, tried to figure that out before. I’ve finally ended up with a few chinese sites, Hong Kong etc, that seem to be the backbone of the e-commerce site, thus Im thinking China china, but not sure. Feels like China to me rather than Taiwan.

    Chinese Taiwan or Chinese mainland?

  13. I know. We moved to a new host this weekend to finally stabilize the issues we’ve been having with high traffic, and they’re still working on the subdomains. Sorry. Stay tuned.
