Trump White House just equated anti-Nazi protesters in Charlottesville with the Nazis

Trump White House Homeland Security adviser Tom Bossert this morning compared anti-Nazi protesters in Charlottesville with the Nazis they were protesting. This occurred on CNN’s “State of the Union” with Jake Tapper.

Tapper was incredulous.

Bossert’s comments only furthered concern about Donald Trump having compared both sides during his statement about the violence yesterday. Trump’s false equivalence between the Nazis and the anti-Nazi protesters was immediately criticized by many in his own party.

Tapper noted in particular that the Nazis actually killed someone yesterday. The anti-Nazi protesters did not.

Here’s a clip from Tapper’s show:

As several journalists noted, the only people Donald Trump is uncomfortable criticizing by name are Vladimir Putin and Nazis. You’ll recall that during the presidential campaign Trump was reticent about criticizing former KKK leader David Duke. In the case of Putin, many speculate as to whether Trump is being blackmailed. But what about Trump’s reticence to condemn Nazis?

You’ll also recall that Trump had a series of slights against the Jewish community, including attacking Hillary using a Star of David, and refusing to include Jews in the White House’s statement remembering the Holocaust.

Overall, Trump seems overly-focused on not offending Nazis, white supremacists, and racists. Trump seems to think they’re his base. And increasingly, they seem to be.

Meanwhile Antifa carries the flag of the 1932 German Communist Party. Communism has taken many more innocent lives than fascism ever has. BLM and Antifa have shot cops. Both groups are equally despicable.

…Bill Maher has a movie (Religulous!), that claims Jesus Christ never existed!…..comedy, but still, a comment on the blog said, that the evangelicals are using Christianity to further their theocratic ambitions for America!………………..what has happened to our land?

    Me too.

  • I only hear them say white culture. I agree with you. They obviously don’t mean they want to preserve the great works of Shakespeare and Mozart and expose them to a wider audience. No, they mean segregation and Jim Crow. That’s their “white culture” and they can have it. I like my multicultural modern life with friends from around the world.

The troublesome individuals on the left wouldn’t have been there without the supremacists, the inciting issue. The people looking for a fight on the left are reactive assholes. Those on the right are instigating assholes. To equate instigation and reaction is a trivialization of the problem and ignores the intent of those who created the circumstances of disruption.

  • TheNurbis .

That is not even remotely close to the same thing. He denounced the violence from both sides which was perpetrated by members from both sides. You don’t get to attack somebody because you don’t like their message. The right to free speech allows people to say what they want, including hate speech. No other citizen has any justification to impede on that right. Both sides were equally responsible for the violence regardless of the intentions of each side. I get the anti-protesters had good intentions but there violence was still just as wrong as the white supremacists.

Exactly the same tactics used by Hitler in the mid 1920’s. Hitler’s rise was slow and methodical. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Adolf_Hitler%27s_rise_to_power
Using the power of violence and fear as he progressed. Don’t let History repeat itself

So the actual nazi flags are just props right? Why won’t the media show these swastika flags that were flying quite proudly ? I am simply amazed at how no one really is noticing this. They are screaming” the progressives are the nazis,”we are not carrying the damn flags they are.
As I said before when are the Dems etc going to unite against this projection shit,I want to see more then just one Dem at a time.We have these nazi pigs marching in our streets chanting hate, WTF!! And “you know who” just lets it happen. Why because this filth are part of his base. What is it going to take to show these people who/what they are joined up with?Do people not know their history good grief it is in practically every movie, TV show etc,how could they miss that?

So, basically, the guy who stands his ground and shoots a violent mugger is just as much a violent predator as the guy he shot.

  • Badgerite

Yes and it is all about preserving our “European cultural identity”. That’s the first thing I think about when you say the name Robert E. Lee. Our “European cultural identity.” These people are so phony and ridiculously transparent it burns. And they call us “sheeple.”
Because Nazism was all about our “European cultural identity”. That, of course, is why they attacked Belgium, France, England, Poland, and ….America. And, of course, everyone has heard the great work by Beethoven, his “Blood and Soil” Symphony.
Intolerable, phony racists, Neo Nazis and KKK.

  • Bill_Perdue

Events like this are to be expected as American society polarizes along class and ethnic lines and the left/right divide deepens. As the radicalization expands and deepens under the impact of endless wars and nuclear war scares, racsit attacks by cops and the KKK and continued union busting and immigrant bashing most workers will break left while many in the middle class and all of the ruling class will break right and move towards confrontations with their respective class enemies.

In the fighting that ensues racism in the form and anti-Black, anti-Arab and muslim and anti-Latino/Latina will often be at the forefront of the battle and the working class has to line in united efforts to robustly condemn and defeat cops, the KKK, AIPAC and anti-immigrant groups. Actions against racism, Islamophobia and immigrant bashing are central to the defense of unions and of the working class agenda as a whole.

In this context, as the events of Charlottesville show, all violence begins with the right and with right wing politicians who pander to them. Democrats like the Clinton’s, the border racist Obama and pro-zionist, anti immigrant ‘progressive’ racists like Sanders and Republicans like Trump are equally guilty of accommodating to racists, misogynists, homophobes, Islamophobes and anti-union groups like the Chamber of Commerce and the National Association of Manufacturers and of refusing to use police power to quell their violence.

The solution, as always, is to build massive, militant movements and actions against racism, misogyny, homophobia, Islamophobia and immigrant bashing. Confrontations will then be less violent because the size and potential militancy of the working class and it’s constituent ethnic sectors is far and away more powerful that the the power of small neo-Nazi and KKK. Large mobilizations of the forces of the left and the workers movement will be effective in limiting the violence of the right.

  • Demosthenes
  • This isn’t anything new. The Republican party has been saying for at least a generation that anyone opposing their hate is just as bad. Affirmative Action is racism. Protecting voting rights is racism. Equality is racism. Immigration is racism. Anything at all that changes the dynamic with the white, rich patriarchy is racism and horrible to them. Stop trying to separate Trump and the Republicans. As long as he remains in office unchallenged, they are one in the same.
