Hey Jeff Sessions: Alabama is 2 to 3 times more dangerous than NYC

Donald Trump’s attorney general, Jeff Sessions, who spent years as the Senator from Alabama, accused New York City cops last week of being “soft on crime.”

While I was living in New York City, I felt far safer than I ever did in Washington, DC. And, I never felt unsafe, even late at night. I can’t say that about DC. But what about Alabama?

I checked the FBI’s Uniform Crime Report, the Bible of crime statistics. The latest stats are for the first half of 2016, and they show that Huntsville, Alabama (the only city in the stats that I found) is far more dangerous than New York City, by a factor of 2 to 3, depending on the crime.

Here are the states, followed by some discussion. For comparison sake, I show the raw crime stats, followed by the number of crimes per 100,000 residents.

Alabama vs New York City crime statisticsAlabama vs New York City crime statistics

So, what does this data tell us? Looking at the 2016 data:

Violent crime: You are 1.7x more likely to be a victim of a violent crime in Huntsville than in NYC.

Murder: You are 2.5x more likely to be murdered in Huntsville than NYC.

Rape: You are 3x more likely to be raped in Huntsville than NYC.

Robbery: You are 1.3x more likely to be robbed in Huntsville than NYC.

So, it would appear that Alabama could learn a thing or two from New Yorker. How not to be murdered, robbed or raped, among them.

Jefferson KKK Sessions, the Keebler Elf, just your typical republican and craves power for power’s sake. They think they’re smarter than everyone else. Their inability to face facts shows otherwise.

  3. Demosthenes says:

Jefferson Beauregard Sessions III doesn’t care about crime statistics. The truth is irrelevant to his agenda.

That’s why Trump picked him. You will notice that Trump’s ideas about things are right out of the 1950s also. I am their age and I remember how people thought back in the 50s and early 60s.

I kept up with the times, Trump and Sessions did not.

I moved to NYC from Houston in 1994. Even then when things were just starting to turn around for the crime in NY, it was already much safer than Houston or Dallas. It’s gotten consistently safer since then. The major cities elsewhere have gotten a lot worse. it would be one thing if this was just your typical right wing idiot saying that. After all a lot of people think of NYC as the crime-ridden dystopia it had become in the 70s and 80s, but it hasn’t been that for a long time. Session is AG and really ought to have some clue about crime statistics. he doesn’t but then he doesn’t know much about anything else either.

It’s odd that such a wimpy looking person can be so mean spirited.

  8. Demosthenes says:

Jefferson Beauregard Sessions III is an ignoramus who has no business being attorney general. He is a throwback to a 1950s Southern racist cracker.
