White House says media didn’t cover Bataclan, Nice, Brussels, San Bernardino attacks

The White House has just released a list of 78 terrorist attacks that Donald Trump says the media conspired not to cover.

Trump made the bizarre claim earlier today during an address U.S. Central Command in Tampa, Florida.

Trump first mentioned the recent attacks in France, then went off on this odd tangent:

“You’ve seen what happened in Paris and Nice, all over Europe it’s happening. It’s gotten to a point where it’s not even being reported. And in many cases, the very, very dishonest press doesn’t want to report it. They have their reasons, and you understand that.”

As you can imagine, Trump’s comments left a lot of people scratching their heads as to just which terrorist attacks the media had covered up. Also still unanswered, what is the secret “reason” the press has for covering up these attacks —  Trump seems to know it, he thinks the US military knows it, perhaps they’ll share it with the rest of us.

In response to growing criticisms of Trump’s clearly false claim, the White House just released a list of 78 terror attacks that the media conspired to hide from the American public. They include:

  • The attack at the Bataclan dance club and other venues in Paris, that killed 130 people and injured 368.
  • The horrific Bastille Day truck attack in Nice, France that killed 86 people and injured 434.
  • The three coordinated suicide bombings in Brussels, Belgium, that killed 32 and injured 300.
  • And the San Bernardino attack, where 14 were killed and 22 were injured.

CNN’s Jim Acosta has more:

I did a quick Google search for each attack, and found the following results:

None of those attacks were under-reported by the media. I stayed up all night watching the Nice coverage, and we spent days watching the response to the Paris attacks on every media outlet (remember all the coverage of the beautiful flower memorials everyone left behind, including the adorable young French boy who asked his dad if the bad men were going to kill his family too?). Each attack got wall-to-wall coverage because they’re newsworthy. There is no way any media outlet would skip a news story that big.

Which again raises the question of what is wrong with Donald Trump? Only into the 3rd week of his presidency, he seems even crazier than he was during the campaign. It was bad enough that yesterday he called the US military a bunch of “killers,” but now he’s claiming that Paris, Nice, Brussels and San Bernardino weren’t covered by the media? When all of us watched the coverage live for days.

Trump is not well. And he control our nuclear weapons, among other things.

Trump’s unfitness for office is beginning to become a serious crisis.

How did the term, “under reported” get into the conversation? It’s a deflection of what he said. They’re giving him wiggle room…

The one salutary thing done by the Trump crowd is they no longer can even pretend to plausibly claim to be the “Party of Lincoln”.

  7. Demosthenes says:

If one just assumes all that Don the Con and his cadre say are lies, it’s easier to cover such things. The media can do its job much easier and just say this. It’ll save a lot of time.

You’re kidding, right? Or maybe you’re not. Sad.

  9. Zorba says:

Of course, Trump and his mouthpieces didn’t mention any of these white extremist terrorists:

Trump has pulled the rock aside and allowed the snakes and maggots of the Republican Party to crawl out and proudly and volubly give their racism and xenophobism full rein. They used to use more dog whistles (they were very good at that) but now they don’t have to bother with that.

Shame died a lot earlier than that.

I think we always need to come back around to the understanding of how Trump fits into the bigger picture. He is the uncontrolled id of the Republican party. He isn’t doing or saying anything that hasn’t already been suggested or said by “mainstream” Republicans over the last 15 years. They’ve taken denying objective reality so far that it has become the only remaining leg of their party platform. Swarms of sad “believers” swoop into every corner of the internet to reinforce the ignorance. They’ve attacked the media, replacing it with inane propaganda. They’ve attacked judges, and weakened the entire judiciary by refusing to fill dozens of seats. They’ve attacked scientific fact, and replaced it with uninformed opinion and corporate obfuscation. The reason Republicans in Congress are not standing up to Trump is because they agree with him. They are him. He is the perfect shield to allow them to get away with pushing a wildly unpopular agenda, and he will be the perfect scapegoat when they need someone to blame when it all crumbles before them. Who knows how much damage will be done, and how many lives will be destroyed, in the mean time.

  12. Junk Box says:

I suspect Trump is trying to discredit legitimate sources of information because he has got some
sleazy moves planned and hopes they won’t be believed when people start reporting on them.

  13. Houndentenor says:

Irony died on 11/9/2016. Sarcasm is now meaningless. There’s no way to exaggerate or mock that doesn’t sound like something someone would actually say and mean.

  14. goulo says:

What news feeds do you use? Without even seeking them out, I saw huge numbers of news stories about the Paris attacks, from a large variety of news sources. news.google certainly showed Paris articles for days, and I saw reports at various specific sites and in various print media.

(Or were you just kidding sarcastically? It is hard to tell in online comments sometimes…) :)

  15. Chris Green says:

After the Paris attacks. It was so difficult finding new stories to read. I had to actively search for it rather than being provided on my news feeds. In some cases it felt like no coverage was provided.

  16. rmthunter says:

I wonder if the list includes the Bowling Green massacre.

Seriously, how many on that list do you think exist only as “alternative facts” in Trump’s imagination?

  17. Kenster999 says:

Clearly Spicer is wrong about those 4 heavily-covered incidents.

I’m curious about the other 74. Is the list published anywhere? I find it hard to believe there are so many.
