Trump looking into banning Muslims from TSA

In response to a racist question from an audience member during a speech in New Hampshire today, Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump said that he was “looking into” banning Muslims from holding jobs in the US government’s Transportation Security Agency (TSA).

The TSA, among other things, runs security screenings at America’s airports.

The woman asking the question complained about “all these heebee-jabees they wear at TSA.” And suggested that we should hire veterans instead. Her comment about “heebee-jabees” is a reference to the hijab, a head scarf that some Muslim women wear.

Here’s the transcript, video below:

AUDIENCE MEMBER: Why aren’t we putting our retirees, our military retirees on that border, or in TSA. Get rid of all these heebee-jabees they wear at TSA. I’ve seen them myself. We need the veterans back in there to take… they fought for this country and defended it, they’ll still do it.

TRUMP: You know, we are looking at that.

Of course, it’s entirely possible that a woman with a hijab could also be a US vet. There are American Muslims.

Earlier in the campaign, Trump had promised to ban Muslims from entering the United States. He only recently has begun to backtrack from that promise.

Trump had also weighed in several months ago about Muslim women who wear burqas. Trump expressed support for burqas, saying among other things that women wear them so they won’t have to put on make-up.

But this latest statement, that Trump is looking into banning Muslims from working for TSA, is sure to reignite charges that Trump is running a racist campaign.

I absolutely love that, should Trump choose Pence like the reports are saying, that Pence has already called Trump out for this.

New evidence shows: Trump is secretly…….A MUSLIM!

It’s a trick. Trump himself is secretly a Muslim.

Indeed it was a sad illustrative example of bigotry and ignorance and bogus illogic all combined in one short comment.

I notice that the obviously false statement “Even if all Muslims aren’t terrorists, all terrorists are Muslims” seems to be an increasingly popular right wing talking point lately.

“Saudi Arabia doesn’t welcome people like me, so why should I welcome Saudis?” mixes up the actions of a government with individual people living in a country… which is the same reasoning used by many terrorists to justify killing individual civilians in retaliation for their government’s actions.

    …and so the cycle continues…

  • Mike_in_the_Tundra

“all terrorists are Muslims, for the most part.”

Sandy Hook? Columbine? Aurora? Tuscon? Virginia Tech?

Yes, I know this is an extreme post. The commenter has been banned, but everyone needs to see how low a comment can go.

  • Muslims aren’t a race, so being anti-Islamic Extremism isn’t racist. Muslims are the Westboro Baptist Church with bombs and the will to kill. Even if all Muslims aren’t terrorists, all terrorists are Muslims, for the most part. Radical Islam hates everyone- Christians, gays, Jews, alcohol drinkers, pork eaters, moderate Muslims, etc. This is a threat that must be deal with, limiting Muslim immigration is a good start. Immigration after all is a privilege. Saudi Arabia doesn’t welcome people like me, so why should I welcome Saudis? Let them go elsewhere.

  • Trump supporters actually believe, despite the colossal amount of evidence to the contrary. They’re not brain washed, they’re ignorant, hateful, generally stupid, and have no interest in being any better than that. They’d rather see it all burnt to the ground, than risk someone smarter or browner than they are have any chance at success.

  • Judging from the many TSA agents I’ve bumped into over the years, their hiring practices are only slightly more stringent than those of Walmart’s for door greeters. The primary qualities they seem to look for is: not being smart enough to have any sense of humor, a massive inferiority complex, an uncontrollable urge to be a petty tyrant, and a moderate sadistic streak – to take pleasure in making trapped people jump through pointless hoops like dogs. Anyone smart enough to think for themselves is a danger to the system, and thus cannot be hired.

  • Do you really suppose the “burn it all down” caucus in Congress will do anything to stand up to him?

Although I agree that a Trump presidency could make America hit rock bottom, I don’t think “we had to destroy the village to save it” works very well.

If it comes down to it at the 11th hour, I will regrettably vote for Trump. Even though I can’t stand him.

Our democracy was blatantly stolen by Wall St, big business, and the “Democratic” establishment.

Bernie Sanders wanted a single-payer health insurance system. Hillary wants to strengthen Obamacare. Hillary will make your drugs and health insurance even more expensive. Mine is currently $475/month (compared to my $25/month car insurance from Insurance Panda, or my $10/month dental insurance). Hillary is in bed with big pharma. Hillary is in bed with Wall St.

I guess America needs to hit rock bottom for Americans to finally wake up. A Trump presidency will guarantee that America hits rock-bottom.

If you think you have a “choice” in this rigged two-party dictatorship, then you’re a victim of deception.

The Internet has played a very powerful role in exposing the scandalous behavior that goes on behind the scenes of the stage managed politics that you and I have been conditioned to believe.

That was because TSA found out they had a prescription for an anxiety reducing drug or some other insignificant factor a couple of years ago. Look at their employees. The standards are not exactly high.

I am speaking from experience. I am highly qualified, well overqualified, by experience and education for a TSA. I needed a job and wanted a federal job to contribute to my federal retirement etc. and applied.

I had a prescription for a typical mild anxiety reducing drug prescribed to millions of people several years before, prescribed more because of abdominal symptoms that did not have an obvious cause than any actual anxiety. I took the pills for a couple of weeks, didn’t notice any difference in anything, and stopped. TSA made me go to a psychiatrist to be cleared for being sane. There were a number of other such demands. Eventually everything took so long that I had to redo the whole lengthy security application, a couple of days before the end of the period for getting the application cleared. I put off going to my mother’s funeral for a day to complete it, missed something, and was rejected.

I know, TMI, but just look at their employees.

TSA should be hiring more veterans? About five years ago federal hiring rules were changed. Veterans of any kind already got 5 points extra, so they could get competitive positions easier than non-veterans. But then the new rule means that any veteran who is minimally qualified for a job (i.e., gets a passing grade) goes to the top of the list. The only thing TSA could do more than that is to hire unqualified people with criminal records or something.

The think which scares me is that I’m hearing more and more frightened people give in to their inner racists. The Clinton folks really need to adopt more of Bernie’s policies and ardently support change in the way the Democrats treat the working class. If not, we’re going to lose this election.

Does that woman not realize that she has just become the archetype for the intersection of ignorance and bigotry? Or that forcing veterans – who have already given their country orders of magnitude more service than she – to do anything is really offensive?

She must be a small government Republican, because having the government force people to do things against their own wishes is the very definition of freedumb.

I’m not embarrassed for Donald Trump, he lacks the capacity to be embarrassed by his buffoonery. I am, however, embarrassed for the people recorded on camera at his campaign stops.

These Trump supporters are looking more and more like the blind Germans who put Hitler into power.

Trump needs to rely on these large brain-washing rallies to garner up support. These racists cannot fathom that a black man has been so successful. Barack Obama has thrived in office.

Dow over 17,000, record corporate profits, 5% growth, best year for jobs since 1999, consumer confidence up, deficit down 60% in 2014, gas prices low, health insurance cheaper than ever ($85/month), car insurance cheaper than ever ($25/month from Insurance Panda), the 1% starting to be taxed more… all while republicans bleated about Benghazi took pointless votes to repeal the ACA, and did nothing for anybody except the top one percent.

It turns out that Obama is indeed “the adult in the room,” and yes, the Chess Master.

Hillary will keep it going, any republican will screw it up. Simple as that.

What alternately cracks me up and alarms me is that reading the comments to these stories (never read the comments) about whatever foolishness fell out of Trump’s mouth today are the posts from his supporters who pooh-pooh the stupidity. They argue vehemently against all evidence and experience, that Trump really does know what he’s talking about, and if elected, his supporters know (shut up, they just know, all right) that Trump will invariably smooth out the roughness, just you wait and see. Naturally, even a modest ambiguity by Clinton is immediately blown up into the most sinister interpretation they can fabricate.

Sadly, I think his supporters would be okay with that, as long as the emperor is a white male

  • How wonderfully Hitlerian.

  • Yeah, he seems to think he’s running for emperor.

  • I was about to comment, Muslim women are very much into eye make-up, at least in my neighborhood.

  • crazymonkeylady

Shit is going to get real up in here with voters like this. Polls vary , but nobody knows what the ignorant racists are gonna do in the booth.

  • emjayay

The hijab or any other version of “modest” clothing for Muslim women is primarily a symbol of their dirt under the feet of men position in that totally patriarchal women oppressing social system. And actually, Donald, often Muslim women wearing all kinds of head to foot covering clothes wear much more makeup than anyone else on the few square inches that are visible, completely negating the whole “modesty” thing.

Trump thinks he’ll walk into Oval Office and can do anything he wants to.

  • 我就是随便看看!

  • Translation: “My numbers are tanking and news is breaking that I have so little money I’m risking federal investigation for asking all those foreigners for a little financial love. Gotta say something totally outrageous so the rubes will eat it up and send me their retirement checks and divert the goddamn media from questioning into my finances!”

  • jm2

hire veterans, my *ss! i know veterans who applied & were told they didn’t qualify. one of them had THE HIGHEST U.S. naval intelligence clearance you can have & they told him he wasn’t qualified, after 20+ years in the Navy! it’s a joke!

  • Yeah, he’s scary but if he were in office, how would he have the power to implement something like this?

  • fry1laurie

That woman gives me the heebee-jabees. Too bad there are millions like her.
