Soldiers fired upon at Jade Helm training facility in Mississippi

Mississippi authorities are looking for two men who reportedly fired on soldiers at a training site associated with the Jade Helm 15 training exercises.

From TalkingPointsMemo:

U.S. Special Forces Command designated Camp Shelby as one of the sites where a multi-state military training exercise, “Jade Helm 15“, was expected to take place, according to The Army Times…

…officers are searching for a two-door, red Ford Ranger with “broken arrow” written across the top. Authorities say they are looking for two white males who allegedly fired from the vehicle and fled in the vehicle.

No one was hurt in the incident.

Jade Helm 15 is the subject of a particularly wild conspiracy theory popularized by the fringe and far right alleging that the federal government is planning an armed takeover of various states and localities — land that the government already occupies. The theory picked up quite a bit of steam in the conservative movement, with 32 percent of Republican primary voters responding that the government was definitely trying to take over Texas when Public Policy Polling posed the question back in May.

Republican elected officials, who should have known better, did little if anything to quell the conspiracy theory, with Ted Cruz, Louie Gohmert and Texas Governor Greg Abbott telegraphing a series of warnings, threats and suspicions to the government. Abbott went as far as to instruct the Texas State Guard to monitor the exercises being carried out in his state.

Conservatives who no longer hold elected office got in on the act, as well, suggesting that violent insurrection may be necessary in the face of Barack H-word Obama’s government overreach:

In this kind of climate, with so much outward disdain for and suspicion of the federal government, with such overt references to the need to literally fight back, is it really so hard to believe that someone would?

UPDATE: Two men driving a truck matching the description of the one at the shooting have been questioned by police, but have somehow not been placed under arrest.

    ;-)

I guess I’m assuming they still have the appropriate number of digits on their hands and feet to count them if they don’t lose track in the process. ;-)

  2. DoverBill says:

You are assuming that they can count down there?

  3. PattyJM says:

    Preach it, brother.

What ever happened to that succession petition that was going around a few years ago? Its time has come.

  4. Butch1 says:

Would it help if they count how many teeth they have between them? ;-)

  5. Butch1 says:

With a shut-down goes all the Federal money and the government jobs. “Fight fire with fire.”

  6. Butch1 says:

    Excellent response!

  7. Butch1 says:

If they were “driving while black” they would have been dead already.

I can’t wait for the Fox News report (if they even deign to notice our troops being fired upon on American soil, ho-hum) that ponder how in the world could something like this happen? Followed by rampant speculation about false flag operations to discredit the knuckledraggers.

  9. The_Fixer says:

Remember those “Tejas” bumper stickers back in the ’70s? They were slapped on cars by members of a short-lived movement by Mexicans to get Texas back.

Doesn’t sound like such a bad idea now, does it?

  10. Mike_in_the_Tundra says:

Take over Texas? It would be wiser to give it away.

  11. The_Fixer says:

I am not surprised at this story. It seems that there are all of these “brave constitutionalists” who walk around wearing military gear, shooting military-style guns, and spouting off, leading other idiots to think that they are bravely protecting the integrity of this country.

Yet when they finally get up enough nerve to actually do something (something terroristic), right afterwards, what do they do? Turn tail and run. If these people were really all that concerned about defending “The Homeland”, they’d not be running. They’d stand up to the “enemies of freedom” and fight them.

These are nothing but wanna-bees that managed to drink enough liquid courage to embolden them into taking pot-shots at the men and women who really are trying to take defense of the country seriously.

Guys like this “Broken Arrow” bunch are a bunch of F’n dimbulbs.

Their sisters must have been shopping or cooking meth, so they had nothing else to do.

Could some of you fine folks help by sending enough to paint my black helicopter another color? The neighbors have been filling it full of lead..

  14. JaneE says:

Why not give a “return fire if fired upon” order to all military personnel? Just assume they are domestic terrorists.

  15. therling says:

Let’s threaten to shut down all the US military facilities out of those states and watch the idiots howl in protest.

I thought most Europeans and Asians are supposed to have several percent Neanderthal DNA. If that’s true, that would mean the two populations mixed.

  17. Houndentenor says:

That sounds like attempted murder to me. And yes, we need to call out the right wing hacks who stirred up this paranoia. What did they think would happen? Did they think they could make people with guns paranoid that people were coming to get them and there’d be no violence?

  18. DoverBill says:

“Authorities say they are looking for two white males…”

    Well… hell-fucking-lo!

  19. nicho says:

Neanderthals were nice people. They were peaceful, lived communally, and cared for their sick and elderly. Unfortunately, they were wiped out by the racist, greedy, and violent homo sapiens.

  20. atalex says:

As if America actually wants that treasonous shithole anyway. When that ignorant buffoon Rick Perry was still governor and was muttering about secession, I was practically shouting “LEAVE M*****F*****!” We’ll just evacuate the population of Austin and every other decent Texan and pay for it with the money we save on all those Texas military bases!

For most of the last decade, I’ve wondered if or when the Republican party will reach Peak Crazy…and they consistently continue to exceed my expectations.

  22. fry1laurie says:

And all he got was a lousy T-shirt. And eternal hatred from the neanderthal wing of American politics, aka the GOP.

  23. Baal says:

Make the GOP own this. Because they do.
