Donald Trump hired illegal immigrants to build his new luxury hotel because of course he did

Donald Trump has jumped to second place in early-state Republican primary polling on the backs of undocumented immigrants. More precisely, Donald Trump has jumped to second place in the Republican primary polling by calling undocumented immigrants diseased-infested rapists and murderers — comments that have energized the Republican base beyond belief.

The absurdity of Donald Trump can be measured many ways: the number of times he’s gone bankrupt; the number of companies and organization’s he’s sued; the number of times he’s been married — despite his support for “traditional” marriage, as in one man, one woman, one time; the number of secret plans he has to fight the Islamic State; and so on. So it should come as no surprise that The Washington Post found a new way to measure Trump’s absurdity yesterday: the number of undocumented immigrants he’s currently employing.

The Post interviewed roughly twenty people working on construction for Trump’s new luxury hotel in Washington, D.C., and found that a number of them were there in the country illegally. Still more had illegally immigrated before later gaining legal status. They are employed by Lend Lease, a contracting firm hired by one of Trumps companies. In a statement, one of Trump’s spokespeople would only say that they and affiliated companies had complied with all applicable laws when hiring employees for the project.

The workers, many of whom commute from as far away as Baltimore to work on construction for the hotel, which will be located five blocks from the White House, expressed concern that they could lose their jobs at any moment now that the candidate has a political interest in seeing them deported. Others were just (righteously) angry over his remarks:

“Do you think that when we’re hanging out there from the eighth floor that we’re raping or selling drugs?” Ramon Alvarez, 48, a window worker from El Salvador, said during a break Monday morning just outside the construction site. “We’re risking our lives and our health. A lot of the chemicals we deal with are toxic.”

Mediaite called the Post‘s report “the most predictable development in world history.”

After all, for all of Trump’s bloviating against all things Mexico, this is a man who will ditch all of his moral convictions if he thinks it will get him a buck, or a “young and beautiful piece of ass.” As Gabe Ortiz of America’s Voice pointed out, much of his clothing line is manufactured in Mexico.

It will be interesting to see how the GOP base handles the news that their anti-immigrant champion is totally pro-immigrant when it comes to exploiting their labor for personal gain. Mitt “Self-Deportation” Romney took damage over similar charges in 2011, when reports re-emerged that he had hired undocumented immigrants to work on his lawn. Of course, he went on to win the nomination, so history suggests that Republican voter can handle at least some level of immigration hypocrisy from their leaders.

But Trump is taking that hypocrisy to immeasurably absurd levels. So absurd, in fact, that — according to him — he’s going to win the latino vote.

I’d feel no surprise at all to find Trump using illegal aliens to cut costs, but the Washington Post article on which this claim is based says only, “But a Trump company may be relying on some undocumented workers to finish the $200 million hotel, which will sit five blocks from the White House on Pennsylvania Avenue, according to several who work there. ” So Trump may be relying on some illegals there, or he may not. So before you claim something as factual, find some fact rather than claiming someone else’s suspicion–even a likely-seeming suspicions–as fact.

Wow really? Does 2008 economic collapse ring a bell to you? 80% of the “successful” business filed bankruptcy. Disney filed bankruptcy numerous times, are they a failure? What does bankruptcy mean to you anyways? Businesses going out of business? That is totally not what it means.

  3. Tmuri says:

And the liberals will sue. Try it I dare you, in a heart beat the liberal activist will shut down your contract and surround your project with protesterst. Investors don’t see white, black or brown we only see green. Why would we force a contractor to only hire Americans, we would be losing money in litigation. Losing money is not our game. Its sad that most Americans don’t understand this. Now I know business in America will fail. Look forward to higher food, gas, and electricity.

  4. Tmuri says:

Again this article does not portray the truth. As a real estate investor myself, I have no control over what the contractor, that I hire, do. I cannot sue or stop his practice of hiring illegal immigrant especially when the liberals won’t allow me to. Then they accuse Donald of hiring illegal because of this moronic rules? Liberals are becoming a destructive force in America, as if they really want to destroy the country that they live in. They always elect feel good president and they keep wondering why the poorer gets poor and the people they elect become richer. Give me a break.

If I had to splain it to you, I’m sure you still wouldn’t understand how it works.

South American Incas, Aztecs & Mayans (including central America) are GONE they have mixed with Spaniards & Portughese, they are NOT native of North America. North American natives were dozens of tribes among which – Sue, Cherokee, Mohicans, Apache, etc…
However, the point is if there was no illegal immigrant status, all corporations would be forced to treat all workers the same. The problem here is Corporatism gone Loose and overruling governments worldwide.

  10. Cyberats says:

It’s much simpler, you get that SS# and check it against state & federal records. You just put up a phony excuse for breaking the law.

  11. conbug says:

So you know he doesn’t, do you. Your that close to the man , are you. LOL.

  12. John E Bench says:

I call BS on this article. Donald Trump does not personally hire illegal immigrants; He hires some of the biggest contractors in the world to build his Hotels; Who then hire subcontractors who hire more subcontractors. Are there Illegal aliens in the thousands of workers on a job site? Who knows. Trump Doesn’t.

  13. KCTed says:

Contractors are beyond Trump’s control? He could simply put it in their contract bid,, no illegal aliens. So, how’s it out of his control?

  14. Cyberats says:

He ditched wife to upgrade to a better model decades ago, that like any Corporate CEO he kept the borders open by hiring illegals and hushing B.O.P. agents, well, people want to ignore that because in their closed minds “Mexicans done took our jobs.”.
U.S.Senate Drug Cartel runs the smuggling of contraband & human trafficking but again ignorant people think drugs sprout from canals. That’s why they let gangsters & criminals come in undocumented, to disperse the merchandise.
    Good Article, Thank You.

Well Sweetie, being male, I don’t have a time of month unless you are speaking of when the bills show up in the mailbox.

I checked through the deleted folder and the spam folder, and there are no comments of yours in either. That is if you are using the same username.

  16. Arch Angel says:

Be careful what you comment. Agree or disagree MODERATOR3 deletes comments I guess because it’s that time of the month.

You don’t write a public blog then get your little panties in a bunch if someone disagrees with you. Now here a tissue for your issues.

You are a guest on this blog. You don’t walk into someone’s house and begin insulting them. The same goes for blogs.

Don’t let the door hit you on your butt on the way out.

  21. TexasGranny says:

Do y’all really think someone as smart and as successful as Trump would hire illegals??? NO. NOW, subcontractors, of subcontractors and so on, are beyond Trumps control. Done all the time. Tall are all ignorant yall really assume Trump hired illegals knowing he was running in 2016. Nothing but idiots would think that.

  22. Quimper says:

Let’s get real here… Trump needs to start talking context. He cannot just keep screaming as he has even though I agree with him 100%.I’d also like to hear from his own mouth why he gave Hillary money, Pelosi, Emmanuel, and Harry Reid money. (amongst others)
Actually I know why as he is a real estate mogul, and is buying off politicians, but I’m wondering why I should trust him?
I think I just answered my own question…
In all seriousness, I doubt Trump can sustain his rhetoric. I remember a few years back he was for universal healthcare similar to Canada’s, and was also for mass naturalization of illegals.
In other words, he’s just another political whore, who presently is just parroting what we all want to hear, and it feels good to our ears.
    Ted Cruz has my money

  23. philtrammell says:

In the past it was popular to hire illegals. Today, it is Anti-American.

  24. philtrammell says:

It was popular to hire illegals in the past. Today it is Anti-American. The Donald Loves America unlike Michelle. I doubt he has any illegals now if he even hire them in the past. Illegals are cleaver in the procurement of false documents.

  25. JOHN KLINE says:

It is not uncommon to hear people and read about people wanting to sent all of them back to Mexico. Those are the ignorant ones that Trump is after.

  26. JOHN KLINE says:

This “idiot” realizes this is a problem for both parties. They have screamed about illegal immigration for decades and have really done very little. They have too many supporters that want to do nothing but gripe. As for penalties, they must not be high enough, just tokens. Where would one look for these workers? How about meat processing plants, lawn care businesses, fruit orchards, vegetable fields, bus boys and waiters and dishwashers, hotel maids and the list goes on.

  27. Quimper says:

That’s a red herring by the left media. Nobody of any level of decent knowledge has in their mind to deport millions of good people.
The U.S. can easily deal with those who are here.
The paramount issue, and the issue that keeps the two sides from coming together is that we demand a sealed border first before anything else is enacted, and that there is the big rub.
The Crony Capitalists in both parties, and the Leftists want NOT to seal the border FIRST!

  28. Quimper says:

As an employer i can tell you that there are stiff penalties, you idiot! But with sanctuary cities, and Crony Capitalists In Both Parties, and a National Chamber Of Commerce in the back pocket of Obama and all Crony Capitalists you get minimal enforcement.
If you believe that this is a Republican only issue you’re incredibly naive’!

  29. JOHN KLINE says:

I have trouble keeping up with the correct terms. However, I do think those here should be able to work toward citizenship. When living in California, I knew a number without documentation and American workers should be so hard working and honest. As for those wanting to deport all of them, fine–tell us how you plan to deport 12 million people.

  30. Moderator3 says:

    Undocumented workers.

  31. JOHN KLINE says:

Ah, that same old argument. If there were penalties, the guy would require proof of legality from the landscape office. Similar to how you would not use a firm that did not show proof of adequate insurance. People would just rather ignore it and hire illegal aliens and then complain that they keep coming to our country.

  32. Quimper says:

    It’s not a ploy, its a fact.
So when a guy hires a landscaping firm to do his company’s landscaping, does he go in the landscape office and prove each individual’s legal status? Of course not.

  33. JOHN KLINE says:

Yes, that “contracting” ploy has been used for years to hire illegal immigrants. Make stiff penalties to people whether or not they use contract labor, they would figure out how to verify immigration status.

  34. Quimper says:

So, what’s the problem? I’ve been an employer for almost the time I immigrated here form the Ukraine and I can tell you it is extremely difficult to tell the legals from the illegals, and when you are hiring contracting firms it pretty much out of your own hands.
So your claim that this is on Trump’s shoulders is a red herring.

  35. Kenneth 5495 says:

Look as an employer it hard to check employees 100% with the tools made available to employers. Till our government provided us with a fool proof system that allows employers to hire employees with the guarantee they are legal the subject of Donald Trump hiring undocumented Immigrants is mute.

One way is national ID system that requires a back ground check to get the new ID.. This ID would have a encrypted information system built into it that with a single swipe that could be checked agents a single source database that can check to make sure the information on the Id is True and could be matched by a picture or figure print ID that’s built into the card that matches the ones stored on the national database to give the employer ok to hire said employee

Right now if you can’t verify the information isn’t forged or stolen you can only trust the information supplied by employee legitimate

  36. BeccaM says:

“F*ckface von Clownstick” is Jon Stewart’s name for Trump. Me, I just consider him the Id of the Republican party — up to and including their rank hypocrisy. In many ways, he’s the ideal GOP candidate.

  37. Bill_Perdue says:

Working people – immigrant, imported or otherwise – are not illegal.
