Mississippi, Louisiana, Georgia top list of gay-porn watching states

A new study, of sorts, by PornHub shows that the southern US states watch the most gay porn of any region of the country.

The research also finds that Mississippi, Louisiana and Georgia are the top gay-porn watchers of all 50 states.

Of the top 10 gay-porn-watching states, 5 are in the South.

And, on average, states that have legalized gay marriage have more gay-porn viewers than states that ban same-sex nuptials.

Here’s a list of the Top 10 gay-porn-watching states that I compiled (PornHub, oddly, doesn’t list all 50 in a row):

5.58% Mississippi
5.44% Louisiana
5.38% Georgia
5.37% New York
5.38% Hawaii
5.27% California
5.21% Florida
5.00% DC
4.97% Alabama
4.96% New Mexico

You might recall a study from a few years ago showing that uber-conservative Utah was the top home-consumer of porn overall - not gay porn, just porn generically.  The other states in the overall porn line-up, not just gay porn, varied, depending on how you slice the data:

PornHub reports that the lowest numbers of gay-porn watchers are in Alaska, Montana, North Dakota and Idaho.

Finally, here’s the map of the entire US by percentage of gay-porn viewers – find your state!

Less than 650,000 people live in DC. Yet they made it to 8th on this list.

Things that make you go ‘Hmmmm.”

  • 2karmanot

Somehow “well behaved Mormon woman’ and ‘frozen’ seem quite in sync.

  • Stev84

There is also girl/girl porn that’s authentic with actresses who are bisexual or lesbian. And sometimes even women behind the camera. And there are plenty of straight men going gay-for-pay because it pays a lot more. Viagra is standard in any case.

Back in the ’50s, it was a communist under every bed. Today, it’s an LGBT manifesto in every Disney move, not to mention a terrorist behind every rock and a spook sniffing every datagram. 60 years from now it will be who-knows-which infesting every who-knows-what. The whole “latest evil menace threatening our way of life; herp derp the sky is falling” thing is very tiresome.

  • The_Fixer

Yeah, I looked at that map and came to the same conclusion. It might well be the percentage of higher-speed connected households and businesses. ‘Cause everyone knows that porn is downright frustrating on dial-up.

Seriously, the lowest consumers in that map were all largely rural states with a lot of wide-open spaces. Places that are a tad more difficult to get high-speed Internet service than the population-dense Northeast.

When you have 4 or 5 sister-wives, you need to change it up a little. Just saying.

‘Well-behaved’ is a judgement other people make about your children. Ms. Scaggs so needs a GBF or–at the very least–lunch with a Gay Man to help her sort out all that sublimated anger she has about men.

Does gay porn include fake lesbian porn?

  • pappyvet

Too funny, I was just reading an article where a “Well behaved Mormon” woman claimed that the Disney movie Frozen is chock full of gay propaganda.

According to Kathryn Scaggs , “It is apparent that the very best talent within the industry was called upon for every facet of producing and bringing [Frozen] to the big screen: illustrators; animators; writers; composers; singing artist; actors; etc., in order to woo its intended audience, parents, into a frozen-state, which would then allow liberalism to indoctrinate children,”

I always thought that people in Utah were a bit top heavy in the hypocrisy department and it is no surprise that they are in familiar company.

I just stumbled across the pic and loved the “whaaaat?” look, thought it was perfect for this :)

Two good-looking guys being sexual, without all the fake orgasms and hairless pussies that women bring to the show? I can definitely understand why straight women are turned on by it.

  • perljammer

If the numbers include people who watch lesbian porn, then they undoubtedly include quite a few straight men as well.

At any rate, I don’t know how PornHub arrived at “percentage of the population” numbers. Web server access logs record IP addresses. This looks to me more like “percentage of Internet-connected households and businesses”.

  • perljammer

Maybe similar to straight men who watch lesbian porn? Lots of straight guys seem to enjoy that.

  • Stev84

Contrary to Christian propaganda, women are very easily visually stimulated. There has been a study showing that just about anything can turn them on, whereas sexual arousal in men is much more linked with one’s actual sexual orientation.

Also pretty much all male/male slash fiction is written by straight women.

  • Stev84

One big reason Utah has such high numbers is that the Mormons made sure that you can’t buy porn in brick and mortar stores.

  • 4th Turning

Wait until the movie comes out in dvd as there’s a lot of stuff to fast-forward through.

  • 4th Turning

Nope. Not there. I’m upholding my end, but there are just so many hrs. in the day.

John, about the kitty. I never let my cat watch porn. She’s tried sitting on my shoulder, but I make her look away.

Reverse sharia law camel nose under the tent? And to think this Good Book was sourced to
justify and PROMOTE slavery up until at least 1861. No doubt there was plenty in it to support
    james crow after that.
    Quoting hindenburg reporter-”Oh, the hypocrisy”…

“It’s the number one best seller of all time,” Mills says. “They do call it a Good Book and in this case it happens to be oldest version of The Bible and the oldest book in the state of Louisiana. This is a vintage piece of history and heritage that is uniquely Louisiana’s.”

    For those within range,
highly recommend their truly fair and balanced late night talkshow host-”Scoot”!

(I am also very suspicious of this poll as my state didn’t make the list either!)

    Porno Kittah is so cute!

  • Mike_in_the_Tundra

I know a lot of straight women watch gay porn. I’ve asked the women I know that watch gay porn say it turns them on. I don’t get that at all.

I can’t hardly believe Texas isn’t in the top 5. Wow.

“And, on average, states that have legalized gay marriage have more gay-porn viewers than states that ban same-sex nuptials.”

Is that what you meant to say, or is it backwards? It’s not immediately obvious…

  • emjayay

In states where the higher rates might not be expected it is probably because of closeted or married gay people. In states where gay marriage has been passed, probably more gay people live there because the state was seen as gay friendly in the first place. Although I’m sure Des Moine is a perfectly nice place, the reputation of Idaho as a retirement home for wingnut police and others might have something to do with its last place position.

So, a lot of complicated reasons for the stats. But like Becca said below, they aren’t radically different from each other and indicate a gay rate of around 5% or more. Also, there’s of course gay porn that is explicitly gay porn, and other stuff that works too.

Jesus is coming!! Don’t miss the money shot!!

  • http://www.rebeccamorn.com/mind BeccaM

My takeaway from this? It has to do with the debate over how many people are gay, a percentage that is sometimes questioned. (The bigots try to make it like there’s just a tiny number of us LGBTs.)

Just eyeball-guessing that map, it looks to me like we’re talking an average gay porn consumption rate of around 5% of the population.

Take that number and realize that not everybody seeks out porn. (I don’t.) Therefore, the number of people who are probably either gay or bi must be significantly higher than 5%. I don’t think an estimate of at least 10% would be at all unreasonable to surmise.

  • judybrowni

    Love the orange kitties!

Leave it to Tony Perkins to gobble up all the bandwidth. Both Louisiana (his home state) and DC where he wants to be consume a lot of gay porn.
