Putin is against Nazis in Ukraine, but he loves them in Russia

The Russian government is now claiming that it had to invade Crimea, Ukraine in order to stop “Nazis” from taking over the country.

Russian UN ambassador Vitaly Churkin has been especially vocal about the Ukrainian Nazi threat, repeatedly lashing out at western governments for supporting what he calls “fascist thugs” in the country.

Russian propaganda organ RT (aka Russia Today) was more direct a week ago when, after expressing concern that the Ukrainians were taking down statues of Lenin that were still oddly ubiquitous in the country, “Exit Communism. Enter Nazism?”

It’s therefore more than a tad ironic that Russian President Vladimir Putin, while terribly concerned about Ukraine’s made-up “Nazi threat,” couldn’t care less about his own very real fascist thug problem at home.

Russia has a serious neo-Nazi problem, and Putin does little about it

A Russia expert said last summer that “there’s quite a bit of violence” in Russia “against people considered to be black.”  She added that it’s unsafe for people considered black (basically, anyone not extremely white) to venture outside of Moscow’s city center, and that St. Petersburg, Russia’s second largest city, is “crawling with skinheads.”

A young gay South African is attacked by Russian vigilantes, who filmed it and posted the video online.

A young gay South African is attacked by a Russian neo-Nazi from “Occupy Pedophilia,” who filmed the abduction, then posted the video on Russian social media site VK.com

One particularly brazen group of Russian neo-Nazis goes by the name of “Occupy Pedophilia.”  In spite of their name, Occupy Pedophilia’s main focus has little to do with pedophiles, and a lot to do with gay-bashing.

Occupy Pedophilia is openly neo-Nazi, its top officers publicly extol Adolf Hitler, and the organization claims credit for nearly 1,500 kidnappings across Russia and Ukraine in the 18 months it’s been in existence.

The organization, which claims to have at least 30 affiliates, is not simply tacitly tolerated by the Putin regime, the Russian government, after denying the organization’s existence, turned around and defended the neo-Nazis’ anti-gay, anti-Semitic and racist kidnapping spree across greater Russia.

15 year old boy abducted by Occupy Pedophilia, after being promised money for sex, then outed to his family after he said his father would beat him if he found out he was gay.

Occupy Pedophilia works by going online and setting up “dates” with young gays, some as young as 13 years of age.  The underage ones are often enticed to show up by the promise of money in exchange for sex.  When they show up for their date, they’re accosted by a group of 6 to 12 young men who then beat and terrorize them, including forcing them to drink urine as a “cure” for their homosexuality, filming the entire encounter, and then posting the video on Russia’s top social media site, VK.com (aka VKontakte), which has shown general disinterest in taking the videos down.

Up until recently, the Russian government didn’t care about Occupy Pedophilia’s kidnappings, and refused to prosecute.  Only recently has the Putin regime arrested Occupy Pedophilia head Maxim Martsinkevich (only after CNN exposed the entire operation, and Putin’s indifference, in a nationwide broadcast in the US), and even then Martsinkevich was charged under a different “crime,” insulting World War II veterans.  Martsinkevich has not been charged with even one of the nearly 1,500 kidnappings alleged to have happened under his tutelage.  And the Russians have made no move to arrest any of Martsinkevich’s underlings, or operations the other 29 cities.

Occupy Pedophilia founder Martsinkevich helps top lieutenant Daniil Konovalov sell busts of Hitler on VK.com. Konovalov calls Hitler “our ideological mastermind.”

Occupy Pedophilia also uses VK.com as its main organizing hub, using the site to find apartments in which to conduct its kidnappings (which Occupy Pedophilia calls “safaris,” since they’re “hunting” gays), and seeking young men to use as “bait.”

VK.com was founded by Russian social media darling Pavel Durov, who did little to fix the neo-Nazi abduction problem during his tenure.  A few months ago, Durov sold his controlling shares in VK.com to an ally of Russian oligarch, richest man in Russia, and friend of Putin, Alisher Usmanov. VK.com continues to ignore its neo-Nazi problem now that it is under Usmanov’s control.

Here are four different solicitations for assistance in conducting its kidnappings that Occupy Pedophilia currently has posted on VK.com:

Occupy Pedophilia kidnaps Jewish Ukrainian TV star in Crimea

As if Vladimir Putin claiming to be concerned about Ukrainian Nazis weren’t ironic enough, perhaps the greatest irony occurred last fall when Occupy Pedophilia’s branch in Kiev abducted and tortured a famous Ukrainian TV star.

In this case, the kidnapping and torture was orchestrated by Martsinkevich himself, and it reportedly took place in none other than Crimea, the Ukrainian territory that Russia is coveting, and “defending from Nazis,” in the current crisis.

The 24 year old TV star was lured to a date, then stripped of his shirt, head shaven down the middle, a rainbow flag painted on his scalp, and Stars of David drawn on his torso, presumably because his captors assumed he was Jewish.

Occupy Pedophilia’s Nazi connection

Occupy Pedophilia’s Nazi ties are quite strong, and disturbing.  And while “propagandizing fascism” is banned by VK.com’s terms of service, conveniently posted on the site in English, in practice VK.com is a veritable treasure trove of Nazi worship, a fact that’s particularly ironic considering Russia lost between 18 million and 20 million people fighting the Nazis during World War II.

Let’s start with Martsinkevich’s neo-Nazi hate posts on VK.com.  Earlier, we saw Martsinkevich helping to sell Hitler busts.

MAXIM MARTSINKEVICH

As noted earlier, Maxim Martsinkevich is the head of Occupy Pedophilia.  He continues to organize on VK.com while under arrest.

Here, we have Martsinkevich helping to sell “white resistance” t-shirts for “really harsh nazis”:

EKATERINA ZIGUNOVA, KATRINA LOGUNOVA

Urine is poured on the heads of Occupy Pedophilia’s abduction victims in order to “cure” them of their homosexuality. In the first two clips, the faux-redhead is Occupy Pedophilia St. Petersburg’s Katrina Logunova. The three videos that these clips were taken from were all posted on VK.com.

Next up is Martsinkevich’s ideological “daughter,” and the head of Occupy Pedophilia St. Petersburg, Ekaterina Zigunova, aka Katrina Logunova.  Again, all of this is posted on VK.com.

Here is a “Heil Hitler” t-shirt posted by Zigunova to VK.com.

“Restrukt,” the name on the t-shirt, is Martsinkevich’s organization that Logunova works at. While Restrukt’s focus goes far beyond “Occupy Pedophilia,” Restrukt has held trainings, that it videotaped and posted on YouTube, showing others how to conduct their own anti-gay “safaris.”

In the picture below, “88″ is neo-Nazi code for “Heil Hitler,” as H is the 8th letter of the alphabet.  Thus 88 is HH, or Heil Hitler.

Daniil Konovalov

Daniil Konovalov is listed on Martsinkevich’s public profiles as his “son,” in the same way that Zigunova/Logunova is listed as Martsinkevich’s “daughter.” Because of the proximity in ages of all three, it would appear that this means both are Martsinkevich’s ideological “children.”

Konovalov spends a good deal of time on VK.com promoting Martsinkevich’s “Restrukt” organization, when he’s not promoting Adolf Hitler.

First, we have Konovalov tying Martsinkevitch’s organization Restrukt again to Hitler, in two different posts:

Conclusion

We know that Occupy Pedophilia is a racist, anti-semitic and homophobic hate group run by Russian neo-Nazis.

Russian billionaire oligarch Alisher Usmanov, who is the second largest shareholder in Megafon, and now controls VK.com.

Russian billionaire oligarch Alisher Usmanov, who is the second largest shareholder in MegaFon, and controls VK.com and Mail.ru.

We know that Vladimir Putin’s regime was content to ignore Occupy Pedophilia for a good 15 months, while the organization brazenly kidnapped and tortured over 1,000 young men (according to Zigunova), while posting the evidence of its crimes, including images of the perpetrators’ own faces, on VK.com.

We know that VK.com, under the management of Pavel Durov and Alisher Usmanov, has exhibited insufficient interest in enforcing its own terms of service against the blatant abuse of human rights taking place, and outright crimes being committed, and then published as a form of pornography, via its site.

And we know that if Vladimir Putin gave a fig about Nazis and fascists he’d have shut down Occupy Pedophilia on the day the first video was published on VK.com over one year ago, and he’d have weighed in with his best friend Alisher Usmanov to get VK.com to take down its neo-Nazi treasure trove.  To date, Putin has chosen to let Occupy Pedophilia’s, and VK.com’s, reign of Nazi terror continue, unabated.

And that tells you all you need to know about how concerned Vladimir Putin is about Nazis.

Post Script – Additional Photos of Occupy Pedophilia’s Crimes

I have my own treasure-trove of evidence against Occupy Pedophilia and VK.com.  I won’t publish all of it, but here are a number of additional images of Occupy Pedophilia’s crimes, most of which are posted on VK.com.

First some animated gif snippets of abduction videos:

ekat-1-featired

This boy, below, is 15 years old – I took several frames of the video, so you can see how they interrogate and terrorize him.

Keep in mind that he’s likely gay, and from a very small town in a very homophobic country, and they’re letting him know they’re about to out him to the world.  At the end of the clip they pour urine on his head.  Usually they either pour urine on the head of their victims, or force their victim to drink it, as a “cure” for homosexuality.

Additional photos of Occupy Pedophilia terrorizing mostly young gay men and boys:

In this one, they spray painted the man’s face. In the second photo, you see his face after he wiped the spray paint off.  The thumb gesture they’re making is their symbol for the entire Occupy Pedophilia operation, and their homage to Martsinkevich.  The redhead is Zigunova/Logunova.

How many nations are livingin in Russia? All of them are nazi?

  • Bill_Perdue

You’re losing and that’s why you resort to childish name calling.

  • Bam

Oh gimme a break Putin troll. Fascism will never take hold in the U.S. because we throw our nazi punks in prison, not let them kidnap little boys and molest them in the name of stopping pedophilia. A multi-cultural country with numerous ethnicities built by immigrants on the foundation of inalienable rights to freedom, liberty and the pursuit of happiness and a secular society that looks down upon those who go around bragging of their superior race while beating on anyone who is different is not the kind of place that fascism can be achieved. Do you think that our rightwing which consists mainly of a bunch of old people wearing straw hats with tea bags dangling, nascar caps and potbellied men in skin tight American flag shirts would be able to bully the rest of the country into submission by fear? What are they gonna do drive around on scooters hitting us with their canes and pummel us with their viagra pills?

  • Bam

Wow, so a neo-nazi movement against pedophilia kidnaps underage boys and sexually abuses them, humiliates them publicly, pour urine all over them. And then the victims of these crimes are in turn arrested for being pedophiles. And all that is videotaped and shown across Russia to the approval of the masses who laugh at misfortune of the degenerate getting his just reward. And these heroes are given awards for restoring morality back to Russia.

I’m at a loss for words at the absolute depravity and sociopathic attitude of these criminals as well as the rest of Russia for either applauding these atrocities or staying silent. Just watching this stuff I keep going from wanting to cry for humanity to feeling a moral duty to hunt down these animals and drag them by the hair (if they had any) to an international court of law where they will be charge with crimes against humanity, given due process and punished with the harshest penalty possible.

I just can’t wrap my around this. And in the former Soviet Union which the Nazis wreaked havoc on. I feel like this is some kind bizarre science fiction movie of an alternate reality controlled by insanity. How can this be happening in this day and age.The only reason I would ever go to that nightmare of a country would be to hunt down nazis. But apparently there aren’t enough cages in the world for them all.

And be aware, Putin’s propaganda force is out all over the internet. They like to play games to confuse people playing all kinds of roles representing different political opinions and nationalities, but they always end up with irrational conclusions to confuse and divide people. After a while you will be able to recognize the patterns. They will bait you into a discussion and seem reasonable at first but eventually you feel like you’re speaking to a schizophrenic person who comes to conclusion that don’t coincide with the facts, but will try to make it feel like you are the one who isn’t being rational. It’s hilarious that they actually spend their time trying to spin confusion and doubt among the west. We’re not as easy to brainwash as the average Russian. We’re actually incapable of all being of one opinion. Our nature is to not think like the herd. But it does indicate that they have a huge network of propagandization and misinformation which orchestrates a real life Orwellian society. It just keeps getting more and more surreal.

John, I’m pretty sure the video itself has been deleted by VK but you can still find photos of Philip Razinsky bullying the young boy, demanding that he give him a blow job. I searched for Razinsky’s VK profile but it has been deleted, probably by VK. The VK page for his organization, Occupy Gerontophilia, has been deleted by VK: “This community has been suspended due to a violation of VK Terms of Service.”

This page (in Russian) has a lot more Philip Razinsky photos and links to other sites: http://potsreotizm.livejournal.com/2416287.html

The people you cite are going abroad to do this because they CANNOT do that in the US anymore. The tide has shifted here. And perhaps in the world at large. Here in the US something like 57 % support marriage equality and about 50% support that as a right protected by the 14th Amendment.

So, to answer your question, how exactly does that work in countries that aren’t democratic? Simple! We pour money and support into violent fringe elements, use these groups to overthrow democratically elected leaders, and replace them with the fringe elements that we used to stage the coup. Then, we cut up the pieces of the unfortunate country’s pie, leave the people to their miserable lives at the mercy their new “government”.

Here at home, the chattering class that passes for “NEWS” keeps the American public completely in the dark, which isn’t hard since we seem to be fuzzy about what happened last week, much less what happened 10 years ago on the other side of the world.

But, unfortunately, Russia isn’t playing along, and are standing right in the way of the only slice of pie we haven’t taken yet.

Back to Yushchenko’s affinity for Stephan Bandera, and the neo-Nazi support that brought him to power- The neo-Nazi elements that made up the protest crowds are a hard thing to debate, but people still do. however, the elements that make up the Ukrainian government are a matter of fact. and here are some interesting names in the new cabinet.

Ihor Tenyukh – interim defense minister and a member of Svoboda’s political council. Formerly commander of Ukraine’s navy, in 2008, during Russia’s war with Georgia, he ordered Ukrainian warships to block the entrance of the Russian Navy to the bay of Sevastopol.

Andriy Parubiy – National Security Council chief, co-founded Svoboda back when it was the “Social National” party.

Dmytro Yarosh – deputy head of the National Security Council, i.e.
the police, and the founder-leader of “Right Sector,” a militant neo-Nazi paramilitary group that took charge of security in the Maiden.

Oleh Makhnitsky – Svoboda member of parliament, is prosecutor-general.

Oleksandr Sych – Svoboda parliamentarian and the party’s chief ideologist,
is deputy prime minister for economic affairs.

Serhiy Kvit – a leading member of Svoboda, is to head up the Education
    Ministry.

Andriy Moknyk – the new Minister of Ecology, has been Svoboda’s
envoy to other European fascist parties. Last year, he met
with representatives of Italy’s violent neo-fascist gang, Forza Nuovo.

Ihor Shvaika – agro-oligarch and a member of Svoboda, has been appointed
Minister of Agriculture. One of the richest men in the country, his massive
investments in agriculture would seem to indicate a slight conflict of interest.

There are a lot more to list, but I think the point is made.

That brings us up to recent events. Once again, the West was key in creating the protests in the streets. These protesters showed up immediately after President Yanukovych decided not to sign a very bad trade deal with the EU, and instead take a much better deal offered by Russia.

President Obama was not happy about that! Obama placed “a visa ban on 20 members of the Ukrainian government (and threatened) to place sanctions on the Ukrainian government.”

The Western backed mobs eventually overthrew the Yanukovych government.

It should be everyone’s concern for the simple reason that the US, UK, France, China, and Russia (!!!) have promised Ukraine territorial integrity in exchange for giving up nuclear weapons and the nuclear state status. If this unravels, do you think the road to solving international conflicts will get easier? Do you think Iran will be just as willing to give up nuclear weapons? Do you think nuclear proliferation will now happen? Even with just Iran, I bet Middle Eastern states started shopping for nuclear capability. Now, that we’ve been shown again what Russia thinks of the territorial integrity of a non-nuclear nation, do you thing it will get easier?

Or do you think Israel will now be persuaded to make peace without something as big as a bilateral defense treaty with US or NATO? (Now, that American word potentially means nothing? The word of the World’s still major superpower. As well as words of UK, China and France? And because Putin already is retaining old and making new friends in the Middle East – Iran, Syria’s Assad, new treaty with Egypt, past and current relations with Hamas…)

BTW, I’m not calling for a physical war on Russia, because that would be suicidal even for us (the US). But since you asked “Why should we care?” If you care about minimizing and solving world conflicts, you have to care about this.

Don’t misinform others about the Jewish community. The rabbi who called on community to flee is Ukraine’s chief Chabad rabbi (Chabad Lyubavitch). Another Chabad rabbi, in Russia, by the name of Berl Lazar is recognized as the Chief rabbi of Russia by Putin. As a result – at least in Eastern Europe – Chabad is very pro-Kremlin.

The other Jewish communities, (non-Chabad) Orthodox and Reform, have not made any statements like these. Many Jews were in the Independence Square too, including a Jewish klezmer band that performed (after the initial but before the murderous wave of violence).

Great info as always…and this Occupy Gerontophilia definitely sounds like he is just cruising for boys his age. He forces sex from them and seems to enjoy contact with gay boys more than simply being a sadist. If anyone in this group is a closet case it’s him

  • Ninong

Their fearless leader, Maxim “Tesak” Martsinkevich, who is now in jail, is extremely proud of his German SS Stormtrooper grandfather. No, I have no idea how that happened. Maybe his grandfather was part of the Nazi invasion?

Martsinkevich loves all the racist theories of the Nazis while at the same time admiring the Russian Communist Party. How can you be a Nazi and a commie lover at the same time?

  • Ninong

You will find a younger Philip Razinsky in some of Maxim Martsinkevich’s earlier Occupy Pedophilia entrapment videos. He used to work for Maxim as bait until he turned 16, which is the legal age of consent in Russia. After he turned 16, he left Maxim and founded his own organization, Occupy Gerontophilia.

What Razinsky does is entrap young boys in online gay chat rooms with offers of money to meet an older gay guy in a park. Then they publicly humiliate them and film the encounter to post online. The thugs who enticed 15-year-old Denis with an offer of about $600 are another band of the same Occupy Gerontophilia group.

Occupy Pedophilia’s victims are usually late teens to mid-30′s but sometimes older. Occupy Gerontophilia goes after young teenagers on the theory that if they prevent them from being “recruited,” they will put a halt to gays. In truth, both groups get off on humiliating, sadistic rituals at the expense of gay men and boys. Often the victim is beaten black and blue after the “interview” portion of the video clip ends.

The growth of a fascist movement in the US is assured because of the
inexorable pressures of a failed economy, robust and absolute political corruption and the rightward drift by both political parties.

The far right is composed of some Democrats including Yellow and Blue dog Democrats and especially Dixiecrats, some Republicans, including Teabaggers and many Libertarians, AIPAC and the ever more belligerent christer right. The growth of the-fascist right will be assured by financing with vast bribes by the rich, who are hell bent on destroying unions, imposing austerity cutting taxes on the rich even more. And the far right is growing in the military as Obama’s gunmen in Afghanistan commit more and more war crimes.

All of these groups, who will morph from rightists to fascists in the coming years pose an extreme danger to our communities. The LGBT communities have to align themselves with the union moment, the fight for a $15.00 dollar an hour minimum wage, the struggle for free abortions on demand and the struggles of people of color, particularly when those movements and fights are independent of the Democrats and Republicans and tend to break them up.

Shouldn’t governments be changed through democratic elections?

  • http://AMERICAblog.com/ John Aravosis

Congress is always going to be a problem on every issue. They can’t be experts on every issue, some aren’t experts on any issue, yet they’re expected to have input on every issues. And while smart people can do well with smart advisors who are the experts, dumb people aren’t going to ever make a good decision, regardless of how smart their advisors are. Oh, and this is one of the reasons why, though I don’t approve of actual junkets, meaning foreign trips to go play, I worry when people complain because members of congress simply travel abroad. We should want them to travel abroad, assuming the trip is worthwhile, not play time, and not paid for by any one party pushing a partisan agenda.

  • http://AMERICAblog.com/ John Aravosis

We’re all sounding a lot more like Neville Chamberlain, so far :) And I still maintain that we liberals talk a good talk about our principles, and we bitch and moan when our govt supports bad governments, but we don’t do a terribly good job in helping good people challenge bad governments. And sometimes people who come of age earlier than us know more, rather than less, about the life and the world. Not always. But sometimes :)

The purity of your ideological line really takes me back. I keep waiting for you to say, “Chicks up front!”

  • mirror

Nor will it change the fact that you want Putin to regain control of the Ukrainian government. Give it a rest.

  • wearing out my F key

    a) it’s kind of hard to refute the Russians “Nazi” justification because.. well there there are a bunch of Nazis in the Ukrainian government now. I put up a bunch of links about, so I don’t know what else to say about that other than the Svoboda is in charge of a pretty big piece of the Ukraine pie. And again to Gaius excellent post, we had a big part in putting them where they are right now, for whatever crazy reason that is.

b)We did spend nearly a century dealing with “the Russian threat”, which certainly had it’s moments. But it’s not like all that attention at Russia developed any meaningful understanding of the country or the people. When the Soviet Union collapsed, we had no inking that it was coming. And the fact that their collapse was total doesn’t seem to matter. I read an editorial from a major paper the other day – “Russia” was mentioned once, and “Soviet Union” seven times! Maybe some of this is like people’s wardrobe,- You come to your “political age”, and you find your grove, but then you can’t seem to change with the times and deal with the cornerstone of your wardrobe fell apart three decades ago. All that stuff just isn’t relevant.

    c) While Russia isn’t what it once was, and while it certainly isn’t a shining beacon of freedom, it is not a threat – except in the sense that Russia had built itself back up to country that can stand up for its interests, which is very reasonable for any self respecting country to do. They have interests in Crimea, they are protecting those interests. They aren’t invading Ukraine, They aren’t blitzkreking across Europe. They’re taking a defensive position, and for the most part, keeping the peace.

    d) What are we doing? Just in case anyone missed it, we are going to the mat for a completely insolvent and strategically insignificant country. If Crimea wants to seceded, we have no moral ground to say anything about it, especially recalling that we bombed Siberia for months so that Kosovo could secede. Frankly, we have no credibility whatsoever, thanks to the unilateral invasions, NSA wiretapping, drone strikes, and all the other misadventures of the past and current administrations.

    e) And here’s some more bad news. The EU needs another bankrupt country to nurse back to solvency like they need a hole in their head. I’m sure they really appreciate the prospect of nursing Ukraine to solvency, right after bailing out the PIIGS. Oh, yeah, they are also not sending any troops, and since they do tons of trade with Russia, they aren’t so excited to go along with any sanctions that we’re apparently going to inflict. And we aren’t sending any troops either, seeing as how Congress is a wall, this is an election year, and nobody wants any more wars.

    f) and even say we do manage to put on sanctions and lock up money and freeze passports. Where do you think Russia will go? Straight to China. Now THAT’S the backdrop for a real World War Three! Frankly, this would be a geopolitical blunder that makes invading Iraq seem like a great idea.

So, just to sum it all up, we’ve spent billions of dollars to overthrown a democratic government and replaced it with neo-nazis, alienated ourselves even further from our allies in Europe, while leaving ourselves no real options, except of course to start another world war, probably without any help from anyone, and all for a country we don’t love, or even care about, because…. Russia looks dangerous as hell?

To borrow a phrase, “We are all John McCains now” – Looking and saying crazy, stupid things, shaking our fists at the wind for no good reason.

I think you’re ultimately touching on the most important part of all this, at least to us: the vast majority of Americans have absolutely no clue what they’re talking about when it comes to this situation, and don’t have any real desire to figure it out to any nuanced level. Especially the idiots in Congress who are thumping their fist on the table demanding we get involved. As we discuss it, we’re trying to lay some easy blame so we can have someone to be angry at, but the simple fact is, everyone posting is correct – to varying degrees. The situation involves a century of autocratic oppression, ethnic divides, political manipulation, and more recently, external economic manipulation. The elephant is like a pillar, like a rope, like a fan, and like a tree branch – all at once.

  • jomicur

Differences, yes. Nowhere near as widespread or firmly entrenched, yes. Similarities, also yes, quite definitely. The people behind this un-scouts movement are the same people who have been praising Russia and Uganda, would happily see the same thing here, and are doing everything they can to bring it about (witness Arizona, Mississippi, et al). There is no reason not to call them out for it. “It can’t happen here” is, well, a less than helpful attitude.

  • Badgerite

Because we like to have at least the illusion of progress in the world.
There are things the human species needs to be working on and repressive authoritarian governments tend to be less concerned with those things than staying in power. All things are connected.

Excellent point. Neo-Nazis don’t tend embrace the pan-European dream of enforced tolerance and human rights which is a necessary result of tying yourself to the EU.

  • wearing out my F key

BUT… if you had some time, you could probably call the white house and your representatives and tell them that you support LGTB across the world, and that would necessarily include not bankrolling the neo-nazis in Ukraine government, especially since we’re about to 1Billion dollars in aid to them.

The EU is great, but they can take forever to get things done, and Russia probably won’t take our calls. Our government should at least hear your concerns, right? It’s our money, after all.

  • http://AMERICAblog.com/ John Aravosis

    A) The references to Nazis come out because its the main justification the Russians are using for the invasion.

    B) We spent nearly a century dealing with the danger Russia, then Soviet, posed to the world. And now theyr’e coming back for a remake. For the past year that I’ve been watching, and tracking, the anti-gay activities by the Russian govt, and tacitly in cahoots with the Russian govt, I got a growing pit in my stomach that this was feeling an awful lot like my coming of political age in the 70s and 80s, with the Soviet Union. And now it feels even more like that. Some people, myself included, are worried not because we love or even care about Crimea, but because Russia is starting to look, yet again, dangerous as hell.

  • http://AMERICAblog.com/ John Aravosis

Oh absolutely. And let’s face it, we’re not exactly dealing with Paris or London here. It’s Kiev. Per se democracy, and democratic traditions and theories are far less rooted in the culture than they are in most of the west. The transition is going to dirty and ugly. This isn’t Red Dawn where Americans are overthrowing their soviet oppressors. We’re dealing with an imperfect political culture trying to overthrow a more imperfect oppressor. Ugly ugly ugly all around.

  • http://AMERICAblog.com/ John Aravosis

I’m pretty sure a private anti-gay group creating its own hateful little Boy Scouts alternative is different by a few orders of magnitude from a national government intentionally ignoring a nationwide neo-nazi conspiracy to abduct and torture thousands of minorities. Not to mention, in the US such an organization would find every perpetrator in those videos in jail.

  • wearing out my F key

It’s a very noble goal. And noble goals always need dedicated people to achieve them. I can relate, as my interests in politics have boiled down to almost exclusively to trying to limit U.S. involvement in foreign conflicts, both real and contrived, which is what I’m focusing on lately in Ukraine. Hopefully, we will both tilt some windmills. Anyway- good luck, and fight the good fight.

  • Tom in Lazybrook

The safety and security of the LGBT community is my number one concern. I’m not alone. Russia sank into fascism a long time ago. So long as Russia is violating the very basic human rights of my people, and violating every international agreement they’ve ever signed, they have zero credibility. Any opportunity to free people from Putin’s oppression is a good one.
In this case, the Ukrainian government as part of its turn to the EU will have no choice but to protect the basic rights of its LGBT community. Even if that makes some nationalists unhappy.
Putin has no case. And quite frankly I don’t believe that the US has done much in the Ukraine. Its a paranoid line I see frequently followed with anti-Semitic rants by paranoid anti-semites/homophobes/racists.
And how much money has RUSSIA been spending to prop up racist/corrupt/homophobic/anti-Semitic groups? I’ll bet its a LOT more than the US has given to support those opposed to Russia’s homophobic and violent regime. Heck, in Crimea, Vladimir Zhironovsky, a political leader tied to Putin (albeit as the leader of an ‘opposition’ whatever party) was in Crimea this weekend handing out 1000 Ruble notes to pay people to go to pro-Putin rallies.

Its a zero sum game. Any win for Putin means more violent abuse of LGBT persons.

obviously, the Ukraine government was corrupt. Obviously, Russia is not a Jeffersonian Democracy. Obviously, Crimea wants to be separated from Ukraine, and quite possibly be independent from Russia as well.

We’ve done business with much more corrupted governments than Ukraine. We’ve done business with much more repressive governments than Russia. And Baltic states have broken up before without the world coming to a halt.

Why should this be an international emergency? Much less an argument that requires references to the Nazis? This should be none of our concern.

You mean the guy who lived in the palace with the expensive car collection, his own golf course and bowling alley, hunting preserve and expansive farming operation and a nice road leading right up to the door. Thanks for pointing out the central political question for the region which is the growth of large fascist parties in the Ukraine and other former Soviet nations and the ties between the fascists and the Obama and Merkel regimes.

As the English Guardian pointed out a few days ago: “Ukraine has not experienced a genuine revolution, merely a change of elites – The new rulers in Kiev, with links to the right, will never tackle the root cause of corruption in Ukraine: poverty and inequality The far right has also achieved a major breakthrough in the government. … The xenophobic Svoboda party controls the posts of deputy prime minister, ministers of defence, ecology, agriculture and the prosecutor general’s office. Andriy Parubiy, one of the founders of the Social-National Party of Ukraine… is now the head of the national security and defense council.

What is most worrying is that the new government cannot control the infamous Right Sector. … Recently, the press secretary of the Right Sector gave an interview saying “we need to tell Europe the right way to go” and save it from the “terrible situation” of “total liberalism”, when people don’t go to church and are tolerant of lesbian, gay bisexual and transgender rights.

The left in Russia and the Ukraine are centering their anti-fascist efforts on opposition to Putin’s invasion of Crimea because it strengthens the nationalist frenzy that the right and the far right in both countries feed on. They’re correct but the in the US we should aim our antiwar work at the Obama regimes dangerous meddling. We can stop him and humiliate American imperial designs the same way we did during the manufactured Syrian crisis.

5 billion is the total amount of all foreign aid spent on Ukraine in the 23 years since 1991. I’m sure someone out there could take the time to present you with a breakdown of where that foreign aid went to, and I’m sure it did not go to find far right-wing political parties. Can you offer one single example of U.S. taxpayer money funding parties like Svoboda and Right Sektor? Of course not, because you’re fabricating your storyline for your personal amusement. And I won’t stop asking you to kindly change that trollish username. I’m not the first commenter who’s told you what you can do with your F key.

Regardless of the constitution of a small minority of those supporting Maidan, the fact that they are all fighting and dying for a move to the EU means that they will have to accept tolerance and human rights for all, including LGBT Ukrainians. And even the Ukrainian nationalists know this.

Your consistent writing style is a repetition of personal opinion with the word “fact” attached to it, but never accompanied by a single shred of supporting information. You must have terrorized your parents when you were growing up.

I’ve been reading about this non-stop and I simply believe you. The mist authoritative sources I find say the issue is way more complex than you’re presenting it. Check out the NY Review of Books.

Public record? Prove it. Because the authoritative articles I’ve found say that’s a Putin talking point some in the west have embraced, and it’s untrue. Check out the NY Review of Books piece.

The money the u.s. has spent on these groups in Ukraine is a matter of public record. So which is more upsetting for you? That the situation it terrible for LGTB in Russia? Or that 5billion (at least) of our tax dollars are going to support those same groups?

No one except Putin’s clowns believe that. This is a Gay supportive blog by the way. Why don’t you tell Russia to start arresting people committing hate crimes against our people in Russia and allow them their basic human rights. Last week a private meeting of LGBT Russians was firebombed by a member holding up FSB credentials.

So long as Russia treats its LGBT population the way it does, I’m not willing to consider Russia to have justification for anything.

GFY. Putin has been in league with Nazis for some time now. Its been a pogrom for some time now. Kiev had a Gay Pride last year. Russia….just had and is having a continuing pogrom. Call me when Russia’s LGBT population has the right of freedom of speech, assembly, association, expression, speech and has the state stop licensing violence through non prosecution of neo-Nazi Russian thugs, who operate with such a high level of impunity that they feel that they can openly film themselves committing crimes.

Still ignoring the fact that the real aggressors here are the US and the EU who have teamed up with Nazis to threaten Russia’s borders. You can show all the torture porn you want, but that won’t change the fact that Obama and Merkel started this.

It’s a lot to take in, but that’s why it is so important to keep putting this stuff out there. While hard to watch, I honestly think that reporting such as this is crucial to helping these kids. John is to be commended and supported for creating this repository of information. Yes, it is disgusting and makes the blood boil, but it’s necessary work if we are going to changes things. Kudos to John for doing such a thorough job putting it all together like this.

There are neo-nazis in Russia?!? Fantastic! We should recruit them, fund them, train and organize them, send them down to red square to bust heads, vandalize government buildings and generally raise hell, then use that as a pretext to overthrow the democratically elected government and install another government that will do our bidding! You know – exactly like what we’re doing in Ukraine!
