Klingon, Dothraki cut from controversial Coke Super Bowl ad (funny video)

By now you’ve probably heard about the controversy surrounding Coca-Cola’s pro-diversity Super Bowl 2014 ad.

In the commercial, Coke has a variety of Americans sing “America the Beautiful” in a number of languages. And the conservatives flipped out, claiming the ad was meant to “divide” the nation by somehow promoting Democratic immigration reform proposals.  Or something.

Well, the good folks over at Garlic Jackson Comedy were able to turn up some outtakes of other languages Coke considered adding to the commercial, including Klingon, sign, and Dothraki.

The video is quite a hoot.

Maybe COKE is to blame for the brown tap water at Sochi.

Actually, there are egyptian words that go with those hieroglyphics …. oh, well, too nerdy?

I think the argument over this “America the Beautiful” Coca Cola advertisement is bad on both sides. It isn’t that 6 or 7 people sang America the Beautiful in different languages but that America the Beautiful was performed ONCE with portions sung in different languages. The Tea Party fails to note that the song is overall in English–it starts in English, it has English in the middle and it ends in English. Along the way, other Americans sing portions in their (presumably) native tongue. The tea folk are clutching at straws and the “progressives” should stick to the melting pot and simply tell the Tea Party that they are living in the wrong country, they should return to Bavaria.

    Funny!

English, Spanish, Hindi, Keres (Pueblo Indians), Tagalog (the Philippines), Senegalese French (Senegal was a French colonial possession) and Hebrew.

Tangentially related to languages; Pussy Riot was interviewed on Colbert Report and it was AMAZING. It makes me think how much more we all would have in common if we all could speak directly to each other. Those girls had balls and Colbert was close to breaking his facade a number of times.

I can’t agree more. Were any First Nation languages used?

Actually I think sign language should have been added, after viewing this.
