Swiss students make cool stop-motion animation opening, closing windows of big building

This one is difficult to describe. Some students and teachers in Switzerland spent hours opening and closing the blinds on their windows, in a large tower, and ended up making this incredibly cool stop-motion animation.

Just watch, it’s great fun.

Jezz, hand held radios would be so much easier…

Dunno. Geek in me would use a website and write the app in javascript so it runs in a browser. Login, give the room number, watch the monitor for a preview and a countdown to keep everyone is in sync. Director decides whether to do over or go on to the next shot.

Way back in the early 1970s, while briefly attending George Washington High School in San Francisco, I had a friend named Ed who did something like this on almost a daily basis for several months. To set this up, you have to know that the school is on one of the highest points in the Richmond District, and visible for miles.

Early every morning, Ed would sneak into his print shop classroom on the east side of the industrial arts building annex and arrange the yellow oilcloth window shades so that they read “F*ck Y*ou” in block capitals. On clear days, this could be seen for blocks.

Cool video. It reminds me of this video, by these crazy guys from Canada who call their band Hollerado. The song is “Americanarama”, it’s a loud, rockin’ tune, too:

If you watch past the initial credits, there’s a ‘Making Of’ quasi-documentary. My guess is each participant was given a long numbered list of what to do, and the guys who made the video using the bullhorn were calling out the numbers. There were really only a few moves they need to track — blinds open or shut, window open or shut, stand in window and cheer, and what looked to me like three or four positions for that sliding outer shutter.

Apparently the dorm is really teeny single rooms. Isn’t one window wrong at 1:53?

I’d be curious HOW they coordinated it.

Wow. Looks like a LOT of work. Impressive.

Wow. The coordination for that must’ve been hellishly complicated.
