Rick Santorum thinks he’s Nelson Mandela, and Obamacare is apartheid

Nelson Mandela has some competition in America’s favorite freedom fighter of color Rick Santorum.

Jon Stewart weighs in on the unhinged response by conservatives to the death of former South African President Nelson Mandela.  But the best response has to be from former GOP Senator and presidential hopeful Rick Santorum.  Santorum suggested that Nelson Mandela fighting apartheid is a lot like Rick Santorum fighting Obamacare.

santorum-apartheid-obamacare

Former GOP Senator and presidential hopeful Rick Santorum compares himself to Nelson Mandela, and apartheid to Obamacare.

Rick Santorum:

“Nelson Mandela stood up against a great injustice and was willing to pay a huge price for that, and that’s the reason he’s mourned today, because of that struggle he performed.

“I would make the argument that we have a great injustice going on right now in this country, with an ever-increasing size of government that is taking over and controlling people’s lives, and Obamacare is front and center in that.”

Jon Stewart:

How do I put this in terms you’re going to understand here? Apartheid is not Obamacare. The systemic subjugation of a race of people is different from the establishment of subsidized health care exchanges.

Hey, at least Santorum didn’t invoke the time Hitler tried to ban pre-existing conditions.

I will quote from the above, I think RW is just “unhinged AND delusional, affected by a complete break from reality, seeing things that don’t exist.” Why else take the quasi militant, uber keyboard commando sobriquet Raiderwolf. What Hoss doesn’t understand is that you can keep your PRIVATE Health Insurance, unless your PRIVATE sector insurance company decides IT wants to cancel that PARTICULAR policy. It was the free market at work not some nefarious oxymoronic commie-facist-Kenyan-Muslim-Benghazi-gay agenda plot.

  • Globull

As one of the most pathetic pro-Israel AIPAC puppets in congress (and that is saying a LOT), Santorum should know apartheid when he sees it. After all, Mandela once said that Israel’s apartheid is worse than the one he experienced in South Africa!

Your problem Jim is that you think you get to set the terms of what Christianity is when you don’t. You seem to think that Christians say what they say against homosexuality because they just make it up out of thin air and it has no basis in anything. No, contrary to what you think, Christians are not the ones setting the terms of God and neither are you. God is. You act like you care about God because you act like there is a standard for being a Christian, but you really don’t. That is why Paul wrote in Romans about people who engaged in homosexuality,

“although they knew God, they did not glorify Him as God, nor were thankful, but became futile in their thoughts, and their foolish hearts were darkened. 22 Professing to be wise, they became fools, 23 and
changed the glory of the incorruptible God into an image made like
corruptible man—and birds and four-footed animals and creeping things.”

Hey, all you John groupies, don’t get mad at me because I am bringing up Christianity. Blame Jim. He is the one brought up Christianity, not me. But Jim, you refuse to acknowledge God and his ways and substitute it with YOUR ways, your desires and your standards. So, stop the dancing around it and just admit it, that you really don’t care what God says. Unless you have some obscure book other than the Bible that says God says differently. Otherwise you are substituting what the Bible says with your own personal opinion. But you are saying that what Christians are saying is unChristian, but since Christians are just saying what God says, you are therefore saying you think God is unChristian.

John is SUCH a loser and a coward. Why don’t you just delete every post
John? The reason is because you are a liar. You are lying that this
is an open forum. And you are lying by implying that since there is no
response to any of your groupie commentators, that they made the better
point that can’t be disproved or countered. For that, I’m back, Raiderwolf here, to cause
dis-harmonic resonance in your group-think echo chamber. That’s all
this is, astroturf of false consensus because John won’t let anyone
    refute any of his tripe.

The lack of humanity is allowing these poor sexually disoriented people live through life without getting them the mental help they need to live a normal life. THAT is the inhumanity, perpetrated by people like John and homosexual activists. All you all think about is how can I indulge myself in my abnormal sexual feelings and force others to accept the behavior as normal. There is no such thing as “gay”. There is no “gay” gene, no “gay” chromosome. Yet, all of this is based purely on the false premise that the desire to practice homosexuality is equivalent to race and gender, when there is NO basis for it. Talk about lack of intellect. It’s all a false fabrication.

  • K H

The problem Jim, is your definition of un-American, un-Christian, and inhuman is so out of wack. It has to be for you to claim that. Intellect, yeah, right. Again, John is blatantly fabricating that Santorum said something when he didn’t, pulling it out of thin air! Ahh, now I see what your confused definition of “Intellect” is, making up stuff. It’s more like a definition of confusion than “Intellect”. Why don’t you expound some more about what you think is “Christian” and what is “American”. I can’t wait to hear this. I have a strong suspicion that you don’t have a clue what either of those are.

  • K H

Sorry it took so long, but childish John didn’t like what I said…WAAA
WAAA. So he blocked me from commenting. “News – A great nation deserves
the truth”. YEAH RIGHT! ONLY IF WHINY JOHN LIKES IT! No truth if John
    doesn’t like it allowed!

But there you go! That’s the problem. John is delusional claiming people said things they didn’t say, but YOU want to know if I was home
schooled. I think it’s more telling that YOU were probably not and are a
product of the current state of public school. Completely lacking in
logic or reasoning ability, JUST LIKE JOHN ARAVOSIS. I may not be back
because puerile John just can’t have disagreements from people he can’t
counter so I’ll probably be blocked from commenting again. DON’T EVER
believe it when a liberal, and apparently especially a liberal who
thinks they are homosexual, claims they want an open discussion about
issues. It just is not the case, obviously. I ought to know, the
homosexual liberals start flaming and deleting posts and blocking my comments, for the second time now. WHERE IS THE TOLERANCE JOHN?

  • woodroad34

Yes, I believe it is. Thanks to the Reagan administration doing away with the Fairness Doctrine in 1984 (an iconic date, to be sure) that used to keep people like Rush Limbaugh, Glen Beck, Anne Coulter, basically anyone at Fox News et al at bay. Now they can spout lies, inaccuracies, and bigotries with impunity and play both sides of broadcasting game: We’re an entertainment show/no, we’re a solid news show. The idea of “shame” is anathema to them and they give voice to people who are just angry at everything like the Taliban. There isn’t any reasoning at all–it’s primitive emotion and venality.

  • Mike_in_the_Tundra

    Were you homeschooled?

  • Raiderwolf

More unhinged idiocy from the left, John Aravosis, fabricating stuff out of thin air, like “you get to keep your insurance plan if you like it”. Santorum said”

“Nelson Mandela stood up against a great injustice and was willing to
pay a huge price for that, and that’s the reason he’s mourned today,
because of that struggle he performed.

“I would make the argument that we have a great injustice going on
right now in this country, with an ever-increasing size of government
that is taking over and controlling people’s lives, and Obamacare is
    front and center in that.”

No where in that statement did he refer to himself. I think John Aravosis, and the the rest of you leftist, unhinged, nutjobs are the ones who are unhinged AND delusional, affected by a complete break from reality, seeing things that don’t exist. Based on this, to show how addled you all are, something that wasn’t even said, that Santorum said he was Mandela, is WORSE than something that was ACTUALLY SAID with DELIBERATE DECEPTION, that you get to keep your doctor if you like them, you get to keep your insurance if you like it and the real doosy that only gullible, brain-addled, delusional and unhinged leftist loons such as John Aravosis and all you loons who agree with him, believe, the claim that your insurance premium will go down $2500. Oh, but to the brain-addled, ALL THAT is Ok, but Rick Santorum making the argument that the government is growing too large and taking over people’s lives, NOT ONLY HIS LIFE, but other people’s lives, WHICH IS ALL TRUE, that is intolerable. More proof of the adage, “If you want to make a Conservative mad, tell him a lie. If you want to make a Liberal like John Avarosis mad, tell him the truth.”

    The recession + greed.

I don’t know why, but most of them are just like that guy now. So lacking in humanity! What happened to them all? Is it right-wing media that is doing this to them?

“the two main characteristics separating humans from animals” Except that many animals exhibit empathy. “So what are they?” I’d say insects.

  • woodroad34

The great joke of the late 90’s was the “compassionate Republican” — an oxymoron if I’ve ever heard one (actually more moronic than anything). I don’t know if you’ve seen “Philomena” yet. It’s the true story about an Irish woman who was forced to give up her “bastard” son when she was 16 or 17 to some Irish nuns in the late 60’s, who in turn sold the child — AT A PROFIT — to a couple from Missouri — in effect the nuns dealt in human trafficking and slave labor, since Philomena was forced to work for the nunnery for four years without being paid for the care and delivery of the baby. I watched an Academy screening with an Ultra Conservative, rich acquaintance of mine, who felt Philomena was “manipulative” for trying to find her son and going against the nuns orders not to. He also was upset that the Reagan administration **spoiler if you haven’t watched the movie**
was shown as anti gay because the son was a gay Republican who died of AIDS and was afraid to come out; my friend said “Oh, here we go again. HE WAS THE FIRST PRESIDENT TO HAVE TWO GAYS GUYS SLEEP IN THE WHITEHOUSE!!!”. I thought about this acquaintance: what is it that makes you so uncompassionate about the loss of a son that she was forced, as a 17 yo girl, to give up; and why is it that you can’t face the fact that Reagan’s administration was definitely anti-gay to anyone that wasn’t their person friend? It just boggles my mind; anything he says you just know is going to either come out wrong or just be factually wrong–very unpleasant.

Santorum is to Mandela as cow manure is to a rose!

  • Jim Valley

The weakness of their “team” is deep and striking. Not a single legitimate statesman or viable politician is left over there. Just clown after clown after clown, all supported by the dumbest citizens in the country.

  • Jim Valley

Santorum would lose in 45 states. The next republican president hasn’t even been BORN yet! But some of them could get a little closer than this nutjob.

  • Jim Valley

Today’s strident, self-absorbed conservatives appear to me to be un-American, un-Christian, and inhuman. They strongly reject both intellect and empathy for others, the two main characteristics separating humans from animals. So what ARE they?

  • ComradeRutherford

Remember everyone, the correct spelling of Santorum‘s name is this:

    [a href=”http://www.spreadingsantorum(dot)com”]Santorum[/a]

Replace the ‘[‘ with a ‘Less Than’ symbol (shift+comma), and the ‘]’ with the ‘Greater Than’ symbol (shift+period), and of course replace the (dot) with an actual period.

It is very important that everyone spell Santorum‘s name properly! It is our patriotic American duty!

Tell you what, I used to agree with you. But now I see that in reality, the Teabaggers are willing to take the country down with them. When we let them win, we let cluelessness and ignorance win, and the consequences are devastating. There is no “off” button for these narcissists.

I’m not saying Dems are perfect, but how can you reason with obstructionists? They will throw their toys from the carriage until people acknowledge them. That’s why we have to work every day to offset their BS “studies” and misguided “beliefs.”

  • Anonymous

Does he ever talk about anything other than gays? All someone needs to do is decoy him in a bathroom, and there goes his presidential bid.

  • Anonymous

It can be described in a simple word: narcissism. Rick Santorum is a face and voice of unbridled self-aggrandizement. All these “Tea Partiers” saying outlandish things and never being penalized by their equally crazy base allowed it to happen.

  • nicho

When was the last time the GOP had a candidate that was ready for prime time? GWB? A former crackhead and drunk who had to be put into the job by the Supreme Court. Bob Dole? He didn’t even want the job. McCain? Really? A doddering old man. Palin? ‘Nough said. Romney? Nobody, but nobody liked him.

  • http://www.rebeccamorn.com/mind BeccaM

I don’t think Santorum will be the nominee for several reasons, the top of which is money. As in, ‘He ain’t got it.’

Secondly, the guy has no schtick other than “I hates the gays and all that dreamy…er, I mean disgusting buttseks!” It is his only passion.

The only reason he had his brief time in the spotlight was it eventually became his turn to be the “Not Romney” of the week. And if you noticed, he was after Herman Cain and all the other killer klowns.

  • nicho

No danger. He’s addicted to publicity. Give him one year without having his face on the TV and he’ll shrivel up.

  • Monoceros Forth

Gaah. The more I think about this, the angrier I get. I know that Jesus freaks like Santorum are addicted to their pose of martyrdom, even while they pretend to believe that they’re the true majority voice of the real America. But…good Lord. Seriously. Ricky Santorum has never known a moment of true discomfort in his life, I’m sure. The worse he’ll ever have to fear is scorn. Yet he’s claiming that his minor social inconveniences are somehow the same as those faced by a man in jail for thirty years? Fuck you, Ricky. Go fuck yourself.

  • jomicur

At this point, he’d probably say just about anything to divert attention from his resounding floppo movie THE CHRISTMAS CANDLE, which was ridiculed by the critics http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/the_christmas_candle_2013/ and met with a yawn even by his fellow Christers. As a connoisseur of awful movies, I can’t wait to get my hands on a free copy somewhere, so I can see for myself just how dreadful it is.

  • Dave of the Jungle

    Hope he runs in 2016.

  • usagi

I want to disagree with you, and I can’t (except that I think Ryan’s problem is that he’s not ready for primetime and never will be & Christie has to run and lose to set up the 2020 run).
Jeb Bush? Guess that one’s not even on the radar.

  • Tatts

My first thoughts, exactly Nicho. Let’s see how committed he really is!

  • Strepsi

“nomination to Pat Buchanan but the country was obviously not going to elect an unrepentant race baiter”

…. but Santorum is a master baiter!

  • http://www.americablog.com/ Naja pallida

Santorum is nothing but a failed culture warrior, which the Republican corporate enablers all know is terrible for business. I just don’t see them letting it happen. Like the Pauls and Bachmann, he’ll no doubt win a few straw polls, he may even win a couple primaries, and be talked about in the persistent-vegetative-state of the beltway press, but in no way will Rick Santorum ever be a serious candidate for President. No more than the likes of Pat Buchanan ever was.

  • http://heimaey.us/ heimaey

But don’t let him become a leader when he gets out!

  • Monoceros Forth

And Santorum is the most likely GOP nominee in 2016.

Oh, come now. I don’t believe that for a second. For one thing he’s been running for President too often and for too long. People who’ve been running for President for a while might eventually get the nomination but only if there’s absolutely nobody else credible and then they always lose. That was one of the problems with Romney and with McCain before him: both of them were career politicians who’d been trying to make themselves President for a while without success and both of them eventually got thrown, with singular lack of enthusiasm, the booby prize of getting the nomination after years of thirsting for it.

  • nicho

Santorum thinks he’s Mandela? OK. Let’s put him in jail for 27 years.

  • fletcher

One wonders what kind of pipe Santorum was smoking when he compared himself to Nelson Mandela. A more apt comparison for Santorum is with Knucklehead Smiff. Unfortunately for Santorum, Paul Winchell isn’t around to add movement and voice to his 2016 campaign.

  • http://www.newmillgay.com/ The_Fixer

Yes, like big business, the Republican party believes in falling upward. If at first you don’t succeed…. you’re due for a promotion!

I think that the Republicans should nominate Santorum. The longer he campaigns, the more unhinged he will become, which will increase the odds for someone else to be elected. The Democratic party just can’t waste an opportunity like that, perhaps this time we can run an actual progressive candidate?

Woah! Got carried away for a second there. My bad.

  • MyrddinWilt

And Santorum is the most likely GOP nominee in 2016.

The GOP has picked the runner up in the previous contest every time there wasn’t a sitting Veep running. Romney lost in 2008 so he got the nod in 2012. Before that McCain got the nod after being the runner up to Dufus in 2000.

Dufus is the only recent exception and a weak one. The buggins turn principle would have given the nomination to Pat Buchanan but the country was obviously not going to elect an unrepentant race baiter. Bob Dole got the nod in 1996 after coming second to Bush I in 1992 who in turn had got the nod being both the sitting veep and the previous runner up. Ford got the GOP nod in 1976 under the sitting Veep rule but Reagan was the runner up and so it was his turn in 1980. Before Ford, Nixon got the nod by begging for a rematch of the 1960 campaign where he had been the nominee under the sitting veep rule.

The establishment really does not look very far for its candidates. They might choose a different candidate in 2016 but it is hard to see anyone who is conspicuously better for them than Santorum. Rubio’s star has waned to the point that nobody noticed his grandstanding Obama’s handshake with Castro at the Mandela funeral. Scott Walker is a non-entity. Christie won’t be picked and Ryan is a flim-flam artist.

I got some really interesting Santorum campaign merchandise planned.
