Cool optical illusion motion that even fooled a cat (video)

Cool fake-motion optical illusions with a piece of clear plastic with black lines on it (I believe), that even fooled the cat.

It’s a neat video, and a simple trick in principle, though I’d still be curious to know how they did the underlying drawing.  Phil Plait at Slate does a good job walking you through how the illusion works.

There are two videos below, check them out, very cool.

Cat: “First the laser pointer, now this. Do you live to torment me with things I can’t catch?”

It even fools a cat? Having been a life-long cat staff member, I can attest that this is a very low bar.

    Way cool.

The cat appears to be a Bengal. They’re high energy and very curious. They’re perfect to be drawn into something like that.

Could easily be a piece of plastic with black lines printed on it. Think of the overhead projector plastic sheet :)

it looks like the bottom drawings come already printed either by press or possibly computer, i would be interested in what the object that is passed over the bottom figure is made of it can’t be paper from the way it returns to its original form after the cat moves it.
    very cool though!
