Racist goes off on Japanese woman on London Tube, later he’s arrested (video)

This video of a racist Englishman harassing a Japanese woman on the London Tube was posted online a few days ago.

The Mirror reports that the man has since been arrested for “suspicion of a racially aggravated public order offence.”

I’d be curious if that’s even a crime here in the states.  Disturbing the peace, maybe.  And with a hate crime element thrown into it?  Not sure – anybody else know if we have anything to get a guy like this on here in the states?

And one more thing.  Supposedly all the man’s comments about his family fighting in the war aren’t true, at least that’s the scuttlebut. Not that it really matters.  It’s been quite a while since WWII.  Unless you’re 85 years old, it’s hard to imagine anyone sane taking WWII this personally in 2013.  (Then again, we do have those people who can’t seem to get over the Civil War.)

I’ll give the other passenger credit for videotaping this and then getting it to the police.  It’s nice to see someone getting involved and helping.

You’ve used two different usernames within 5 minutes. Please pick one to use.

In Japan if/when a J guy did this to a western woman, apologists d say “oh, its just a “cultural difference, he didnt mean anything and anyway he was drunk so it doesnt count” “Anyway, you are a gaijin, a foreigner so you cannot ever possibly understand our unique and mysterious Japanese culture.” “In fact, Japan was the victim in WW2, surrounded by imperialist forces, so this forced us to in fact murder 9 million Asian citizens.” OK, I exaggerate a little.
    But only a little.
Dont believe me? Go and try living in Japan!

  4. jonholmes says:

Some people wont like to hear it, but here in Japan if a Japanese person ranted at a non Japanese in this manner, they would NOT be arrested-and certainly not for a “racially motivated” crime. Possibly you, the foreigner, might be arrested or ganged up on if you said owt back. Happened in Korea too a few years ago, some drunk ajussi hassling a non Korean guy and his wife, the foreign guy was arrested for trying to protect his Korean wife.WHY? Because Japan and Korea 1. dont have laws protecting minorities 2. dont care about foreigners 3. in Korea being racist equals “Korea pride”.
Japanese coming to the UK are protected by our laws, but if you go there, you are not!
Now I await the thumbs down from the PC brigade and apologists who have never lived in Japan….(you ll be telling us Japan is a “liberal democracy just like here next!)

This looks a lot like the dude who was bitching about Germans on the same train I was once (because of a Germany/ENgland football match of all things).

  6. Abra says:

Oh hey, dude acts like my uncle.

Who managed to choke on vomit while drunk and die.

Whoever took this video was far calmer than I would’ve been. One punch? Try it.

  7. Abra says:

Yo, John, video’s now been set to private, FYI.

Can anyone give me a synopsis?

  8. KC Jenner says:

Thanks for the YouTube link. I got the “private” on the one that John had posted.

It’s been quite a while since WWII. Unless you’re 85 years old, it’s
hard to imagine anyone sane taking WWII this personally in 2013.

Well yeah, first it was ”they tortured and killed my uncle” then it was ”they killed my cousins”. Cousins are usually around the same age you are, like your brothers or sisters. If his cousins served in WWII, he would easily be in his eighties.

He’s just a drunken bigot blaming the world for his woes.

  10. FieryLocks says:

This guy is his own worst enemy and it’s everyone’s fault but his.
    What a loser.

  11. The_Fixer says:

    Yes.

My dad was a pilot in WWII, and spent some time in a German prison camp. He never wanted to talk about it and cringed when “Hogan’s Heroes” came on TV.

  12. ArthurH says:

The guy was just engaging in the call of the loser. Because of his alcoholism he probably can’t keep a job and blames everyone else especially those foreigners who because of their smarts and work ethic look prosperous. They have the awards the losers thinks he is owed.
By the way, in my grandfather’s generation, the World War II vets who saw frontline action were hesitant to talk about their war experiences. Those who never got to the frontlines, however, not only talked but burnished their war records. The actual frontline guys would sneer at these braggarts as “having won the war singlehandedly while flying a desk in Tacoma.”

  13. cole3244 says:

bullies have a couple things in common, first harassing women who generally are no threat to respond and secondly alcohol, courage in a bottle and necessary for all bullies to thrive.
kudos to the passenger who took the focus away from the woman and onto himself, you are the cats meow sir and thank you from all fair minded people.

  14. DastiusKrazitauc says:

Something similar happened to me on a Bronx bus. Not the racist part, but the way he treated the young man across from him. He was Russian and drinking booze from a bottle in a paper bag. He tore into me, calling me a moron and threatening to bash my face in for simply looking in his direction.

  15. My mother would’ve been 77 this year, when she was a child in a civilian POW camp in Shanghai, China, during the latter part of WWII, she witnessed the Japanese soldiers bury a Chinese guerrilla fighter alive after torturing him for 3 days. So I can imagine someone of her age or even younger being affected by what they saw during WWII. That’s no excuse for this jerk-off ranting against a woman whose parents probably weren’t even born back then.

  16. HeartlandLiberal says:

Getting a “This video is Prvate” message both when try to play here, and if go directly to YouTube.

  17. goulo says:

Anyone else unable to see it due to: “This video is private. Sorry about that.” ?

I found apparently another copy of it at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=api-kWYavoo

  18. The_Fixer says:

Alcohol and bigotry – a winning combination (just like alcohol and night swimming)!

One has to wonder just what it was that turned this guy into such a world-class dick.

And I am not impressed by the war-hero routine. He probably worked as a file clerk at home during the Falklands war.

  19. Thom Allen says:

US Tea Party has obviously opened it’s London branch.

  20. BeccaM says:

Racist bigotry is always ugly… and this man is a walking (and undoubtedly drunken) demonstration of it.

  21. BeccaM says:

Plus, at minimum, in most locales, “disorderly conduct” and “disturbing the peace.”

  22. pappyvet says:

Interesting. He looks like he could be from here. ;]

  23. FunMe says:

Racism plus drinking in a public subway. Wrong. Probably drunk, too. Glad he was arrested.

  24. Matt Rogers says:

“Anybody else know if we have anything to get a guy like this on here in the states?”

I’m guessing this would be covered under the Civil Rights Act of 1964. The Act includes facilities that serve the general public, known as “public accommodations.” It prohibits discrimination, including harassment, on the basis of race, ethnicity, and national origin, as well as sex and religion.

There might also be more direct constitutional implications, assuming it was a government-run bus system. Government is constitutionally prohibited from discriminating against any class, unless it has a rational basis for doing so.

  25. Mike_in_the_Tundra says:

A little alcohol mixed with an under-educated brain gives bad results. I can’t even imagine that it’s legal to consume alcohol on the subway.

  26. FUFatherEisenman says:

First it was his uncle that died in WWII. Later it was 2 cousins. Couple more drinks and Hirohito himself probably raped his mother.
