Pat Robertson loses battle to bury “secret AIDS ring” video

People For the American Way (PFAW) has been in a two-week battle with religious right leader, and former GOP presidential candidate, Pat Robertson over the existence of secret AIDS rings.

The battle is specifically over a video of a segment on Robertson’s daily TV show in which the always-inventive family values leader claimed that gays have secret rings that they use to infect straight people with AIDS.

The sneaky gays, you see, go to shake your hand, and then use their secret ring, which has an AIDS-infected needle surreptitiously attached to it, to prick your hand and give you HIV.

We are nothing if not inventive.

Pat-Robertson-aids-ring

PAT ROBERTSON: You know what they do in San Francisco, some in the gay community, they want to get people, so if they got the stuff, they’ll have a ring, you shake hands, the ring’s got a little thing where you cut your finger.

DITZY SIDEKICK: Really?

PAT ROBERTSON: Yeah, really. I mean, it’s that kind of vicious stuff that should be the equivalent of murder.

DITZY SIDEKICK (breathlessly): Yeah.

People for got the video and posted it online (see below).  As People For notes, Robertson went to quite some lengths to try to suppress the damning video:

CBN not only had the video we posted of Robertson’s comments removed from YouTube by complaining that it violated copyright laws, but also edited the comments out of its own broadcast of the show.

We reposted our video elsewhere, but CBN also had it removed from websites such as Vimeo and Dailymotion.

We filed a counterclaim with YouTube asserting that our video was protected by Fair Use and yesterday we finally received word that our video had been restored.

But the episode reveals the lengths CBN will go to hide and censor the statements made by its own leader. Now, the network is even considering legal action against a documentary critical of Robertson.

Here’s the video, enjoy:

Except when sadist in the sky doesn’t want people to be truthful. like in 1 Kings 22:22-23. Or 2 Chronicles 18:22. Then he’s okay with people lying, to suit his purposes.

  • Aquaria

I think it’s safe to say that when it comes to bearing false witness, religion would have been in trouble from the get go.

  • Guest

It’s okay to lie if it’s for jaysus.

This has been a hard and fast rule of that particular religio since time immemorial.

  • Aquaria

Shoot. I was hoping the raffle would be for the plastic dild–plastic jaysus.

Only someone with a cesspool of a mind like himself could have thought up such a silly way of hurting people. That would be the way he would do it if he had HIV and wanted to pass it on to people. ( if it only could be passed on in that fashion. ) Being the fool that he is he plays to the ignorance of his flock and wants to scare them. There is no problem so he needs to create one to keep it going. The old Imp is a sick mind diseased man who is beyond any help. If there were a god he would damn him to the hottest flames of hell for the pain and suffering he has caused gays in this country and throughout the world.

He should be pitied but he has made too much money from other hateful souls who think the same way. He deserves a fate worse than what he preaches.

Some times I really wish their was a God, cause the reverend pat robertson would be tossed into that lake of fire with extreme prejudice.

  • bkmn

Unfortunately Uncle Pat is losing lots of things these days.

His bowels and mind are at the top of the list. His morals left him when he got his first check from an elderly shut-in.

Friends who have gone to see what the holy circus is about report almost exactly that reaction. Not only do my gay buddies feel that way but even my fundamentalist Boomhauer relatives who’ve looked into it don’t approve! Whatever it is that group represents, they’re extreme. The best I can come up with is to stay away. The “guides” follow you around explaining things in syrup-y tones, you’re expected to stay seated during the “Last Supper” re-enactment and to drink the grape juice and, friends report, many of the devout weep and actually kiss the hem of the robe being worn by the Jesus-actor. And that’s just part of it because the only way to the egress is to wait for the hour-long passion play (Jesus dies on the cross) to finish up. Honestly, my blood pressure is way too volatile for me to attempt a journalistic visit.

This excuse for a human being is lying, advocating murder and totally slanderous to a group of people and broadcasting it on the public airwaves. If this isn’t criminal activity, I don’t know what is.
Just goes to show the hypocrisy of American politics and religion.

  • UncleBucky

    Adapted? THAT, for sure!

No, for me, I’d get angrier and angrier. IF we went high, drunk or semi-unconscious, maybe I’d last. But mostly, I’d burst not into flames, but I would be like Godzilla and make everything burst into holy flames….

There was a park called The Biblical Garden in Wisconsin Dells, WI where for the price of admission you could walk amid statues of saints and recreations of Biblical stories. A local radio station used to joke it had the world’s largest plastic Jesus (it was 7-feet tall). The now defunct WCFC-TV is Chicago had a quiz show called The New Bible Baffle that gave contestants who answered the most Bible-related questions correct free admission to the Biblical Gardens as its grand prize (you pay for room and board yourself). Alas the Biblical Gardens went bankrupt and the buyer of its remains tore down everything but the section devoted to the story of Noah and reopened it as Noah’s Ark Water Park. The water slides are fantastic!

And he who tries to control Pat Robertson needs 50 gallons of hand sanitizer.

Pat Robertson’s comments were made very recently. The 700 Club deleted them from the broadcast but video clips of the original version are out there and that’s what Pat is trying to suppress.

As far as his comment about not telling someone you had HIV, I think that’s probably a reference to hospitals being told that they could not reveal a person’s HIV status to anyone else because that was confidential patient information. Also, it may have been that you were not required to reveal your HIV status in an employment interview if asked. Other than that, I have no clue what he’s talking about and I’m very familiar with that period because I lived in San Francisco from the late ’70’s to the late ’90s.

In the early ’80’s, when they were first becoming aware of HIV, it was called all sorts of names related to gay men. At first it was considered exclusively a gay male issue. It took years before they figured out how it spreads. People like Pat Robertson were warning that you could get it by getting too close to a gay man, touching one of them, kissing one of them, having them sneeze near you, drinking from a water fountain right after a gay man. It was ridiculous!

I should have read your comment first. I posted the same thing and then read yours.

  • Ninong

They were scammers and con artists! That’s what they did for a living.

  • Ninong

That was Jerry Falwell who stole PTL and Heritage USA from Jim and Tammy Faye Bakker. Pat Robertson is CBN and The 700 Club. Jim and Tammy Faye Bakker started out on CBN’s The 700 Club with The Jim and Tammy Show — with puppets and everything — which quickly became the most popular show on CBN and greatly increased the reach of the network.

Then Jim and Tammy Faye left Pat Robertson’s CBN to form their own PTL network. Later, after they built up that and Heritage USA, they got into financial trouble ending with Jim going to prison and Jerry Falwell taking over. Jerry’s not around anymore. They discovered his cold, lifeless carcass on the floor of his office one day.

Pat Robertson’s still around. It’s hard to tell if he’s in the early stages of dementia or not because he has always said crazy stuff. I’m still waiting for the tsunami that he predicted would hit the West Coast a couple of years ago. Pat not only believes in praying the gay away, he believes he can pray hurricanes away. He’s also a great friend of murderous African dictators, provided their country has gold and/or diamonds.

  • Ninong

    Yes, blue eyes and everything.

    Maybe he was adopted?

After your glowing review I just had to watch the video. This place would be a real trip if you had some good smoke before going. I also didn’t know that Jeebus wore blue jeans and a white t-shirt! Thanks for enlightening me! :-)

They are scammers and con artists but they do it in the name Jeebuz so that doesn’t count.

Pat Robertson’s words are straight from the mind of his Lord. It’s just that his Lord is a tad senile, too.

I watched the video (My eyes! My eyes!). Most of the buildings and artifacts look like they were made from cardboard. And there are a lot of restaurants, snack bars, gift shops and markets where you can be parted from your shekels.

Just like all the rest, Tammy Faye lived like a queen off donations out of other poeple’s fixed incomes. What kind of person does that? A sociopath. I don’t care how nice they come off. There is something seriously wrong with people like that. They are no different from scammers and con artists.

IF there were a god, Pat would have been sent to hell years ago. Prove that there is no god.

Does Robertson have a secret ring to inject senility into young people and give them Alzheimer’s? Maybe he uses the god Reagan’s blood!

  • emjayay

Thanks for the bit of history of this holy place.

  • Whitewitch

    I stand corrected emjayay.

  • emjayay

Obviously you haven’t looked carefully at all the paintings of Jesus. He looks just like that.

  • Indigo

Tammy Faye did a quick turn, slapped on even more make up and appeared locally with Ru Paul a few times. She was a major sweetheart to our community once the dust settled.

  • Whitewitch

Pssst…Jesus is not white – well he couldn’t be this white anyway – not from the region he allegedly hailed from.

Looks like he’s got himself a decent second gig :)

  • malibujd44

He stole it right from under Jim and tammy faye baker when they were having legal problems promising to give it back but never did. Jim thought he was making a deal with a holy man but really was making a deal with the devil.

  • Phil

Yes, and in a girlie bar.

  • jomicur

Makes you wonder what else they might be suppressing. Is it really uncharitable of me to assume there must be video somewhere of Reverend Pat drooling in his shoe and shoving spinach up his nose?

  • Indigo

No thanks. I’m afraid I’d burst into flames if I stepped onto their “Holy” land.

  • emjayay

And you can get a photo of the kids with Jesus! (from Google Images)

I seem to remember something from his holy book about not bearing false witness. Better watch it Pat, God will get you for that.

  • http://www.rebeccamorn.com/mind BeccaM

I think it’s hilarious when hate-mongering God-scammers like the management of CBN realize, “Oh shit, Pat went too far this time” — and pull out all the stops to try to suppress it ever having happened.

  • pappyvet

Spanning the globe to bring you the constant variety of paranoid myth based nonsense. And his “faithful” will swallow every word.

  • Monoceros Forth

I guess not every word from Pat Robertson’s mouth is straight from the mind of the Lord, although he sure acts like it. Either that or God has his off days like everyone else.

  • http://adgitadiaries.com/ karmanot

There is a remote basis emjayay, You see Patty Pat trafficked in African blood diamonds at one point and got paranoid that some of them that ended up at Zales as rings were out to get him.

  • fritzrth

Hey. I still have all my teeth! B-)

  • TampaZeke

You would assume incorrectly. This wasn’t from a few years ago. It was from a few WEEKS ago.

  • http://adgitadiaries.com/ karmanot

I always wondered about the breathless dizzy sidekick. Is her preternaturally blond hair glued on?

  • emjayay

I assume this is from a few years ago. Anyway, the part about laws against telling anyone they have AIDS – I think there is some basis in truth there but and probably about not telling someone over the phone about their test or not having to reveal the information for a job or something. Just out of curiosity, anyone know the grain of truth if any he heard and completely distorted like he obviously does with everything gay related? And the ring thing….WTF?

I asssume the only people left who pay actual attention – and probably send in actual money – to this teevee show are living in moldy trailers with 50 cats and have no teeth.

  • Indigo

Oh! CBN! I was puzzled at first because I’m thinking . . . is that those guys south of town . . . so I resorted to The Google and sure enough! It’s Christian Broadcasting Network [http://www.cbn.com/] who sponsor “The Holy Land Experience” here in Orlando, a theme park dedicated to . . . well, “the holy land experience.” I understand it’s quite the experience. They have a team of attorneys going to elaborate measures to protect their tax exempt status, especially for theme park which they claim is religious and yada yada yada. By whatever agreement they’ve worked out with the state, the state requires them to provide the local population with free admission once a year. They’re very circumspect in announcing which day is the free admission and which other day you have to show up to get your free admission ticket which will be good on free admission day which is not the same day as the day you get your free admission day ticket. Got that? Fundamentalists with lawyers. OMG! So my hat’s off to you for finding your way through their thicket of legalisms! Way to go, John!
