Amazing slowed-down version of Dolly Parton’s “Jolene”

YouTube user goodlittlebuddy took Dolly Parton’s song “Jolene” and slowed it down, so it sounds as if a man is singing it. It’s amazing. And haunting. And beautiful.

So first is the doctored version, then Dolly Parton’s original version. I really like both. (h/t Buzzfeed)

Her original version is quite beautiful as well:

OK, here’s another version that I really like, and one that would seem to have Dolly’s stamp of approval:

I agree that GP is doing more of the serious politics around here these days, and that it sometimes feels like the effect of an Obama administration is to cause the left-wing blogs to post videos instead of critiques.

That said, though, this was an awesome song, really great. And I do enjoy most of JA’s off-topic posts; I might wish for a bit more hard-hitting politics too, but I suspect that will ramp up with the fall and a new war and all.

I heard this on Howard Stern the other week. It sounds AMAZING. Like an updated cover version that was recorded like last week. I’d love to hear if D.P. has heard it and what she thinks of it.

Someone tooks this and corrected the pitch so it’s still very slow but sounds like Ms. Parton.

  • You are more than welcome to visit other blogs, or start your own.

  • Yes, that was a major voice.

  • Dolly Parton is probably one of the greatest talents, composers, and lyricists of a generation. What a pleasure to hear her. Age has come and her stage image is a bit odd these days, but the light still shines.

  • Troll inadequacy and mediocrity are a perfection of sorts.

  • Here’s the thing Brian in simple terms you can understand: Fuck off, go somewhere else Debby Downer troll.

    I was thinking Tracy Chapman.

And then there is the cowpunk version of Jolene by the Geraldine Fibbers, which I like a lot too:

the derp is especially strong in you.

Wow! When he started singing I was totally not expecting him to sound like a woman. Very beautiful voice. I’d never heard of this guy before, but I’m going to check out some of his other vids now.

It’s very pathetic when someone reads and comments on a blog that they consider to be a weak joke. Of course, the icing on the cake is when the commenter comments in the wrong thread.

It’s really sad when a troll is inept.

Matt Cardle does a cover of Jolene in nearly every concert….

Oh Christ, another kitten, “oh my gosh, look at this” fucking link.

This used to be an amazingly good blog, but for the past year or so it’s become a weak joke, very week. It’s as if Aravossis’s heart is no longer in it….if not, give the blog up and get a real job.

    That’s what I thought too !!

I like this cover by Vicci Martinez:

Wow. Thanks for finding this, John.

  • FLL

Stunning. Very moving when sung in a man’s register.

  • TampaZeke

Parts of it sound like Cher.
