Morning Joe rips Palin’s potential US Senate bid to pieces (video)

Oh come on, it’s fun to talk about Sarah Palin. If only because she so symbolizes what is wrong with the Republican party: no ideas, bitter, elitist and intolerant. So I say “hats off” to Sarah Palin for considering a run for the Senate from Alaska.

I can’t think of a better way to remind voters nationwide, every single day, why the Republican party is dead than Sarah Palin’s glowing smile.

Sarah-PalinThey discussed Sarah Palin’s potential Senate run this morning on MSNBC’s Morning Joe, and, well, it didn’t go over well.  The commentators kept coming back to Sarah Palin having a cooking show. It was a bit odd, but more generally, a sign that no one takes Palin seriously.

Speaking of not being taken seriously, before we get to the Morning Joe video, let’s look back at Sarah Palin’s  infamous press conference she gave in November of 2008 in front of a turkey being slaughtered on camera. This really will go down in history alongside the WKRP turkey slaughter as a Thanksgiving holiday classic:

And here’s Morning Joe on Palin’s purported Senate run:

Hasn’t the Tundra Troll been living in Arizona? Doesn’t she have to be a resident in AK for a required period of time before she can run for the Senate as an Alaskan?

Just as I was breathing a sigh of relief that the Bachmaniac was exiting. She’d be gone and replaced by Caraboobie in the Senate.

  2. chrislib says:

We don’t know how she sees herself because she still can’t speak English.

  3. RyansTake says:

Like Scott Brown, she will tease running in elections to stay relevant and suck up as much airtime and attention as possible, but she will never actually run for office again.

  4. semoto says:

Do you mean basketball player Glen Rice?

  5. semoto says:

And don’t forget cash. A candidate isn’t required to give back left-over campaign funds. It can be fairly lucrative.

  6. Swami_Binkinanda says:

Don’t write her off too quickly. She is intending to run against Mark Begich as the constant phone polls testing Palin against fellow douchprobe Joe Miller against Marky B. attest.

There is huge outside (e.g. non-Alaska) money behind her. Kochs own quite a bit of the state’s refining infrastructure and other petrotreasures.

She appeals to the Gladys Kravitz types of evangelical protestants whose lives are ruined by the mere fact that someone is not only enjoying life, which is meant by God to be hellish, but are not following the rules as they understand them.

She gets to position herself as a tea party/reformer and victim of meanie liberals while not punishing the GOP as much as Miller who shouts RINO a lot. Miller is the most obvious hypocrite (owes his entire working life to the USG) and a dangerous or cynically calculating looney militia type, which sells in Fairbanks but makes educated people cringe after the recent militia murder plots.

Alaska’s GOP is so profoundly corrupt that they did not figure that wearing hats that read “corrupt bastards’ club” might have bad optics, putting the oil company/ big bizness faction of the party in jail or on the outs and handing over the reins of the rank and file to the Jeebocrazies and survivalists.

The GOP runs the joint and would rather have her in Washington (providing cover for more effective fascists) than in Wasilla and the party is willing to push her there to take some of the heat off. Parnell, her Lt.G. and Conoco Phillips spokesmodel is now governor and is pushing the ALEC money button. There is still plenty of oil in Alaska and the state GOP is willing to pay the companies to take it if they would just please do it (pretty please), since their backers own a lot of the oilfield support and supply businesses. Including the crack peddling child molester who owned Veco before it was sold to CH2M Hill and his buddies.

Begich has to be Blue Doggish just to run in this state, which has filled up with Okie/Texican refugees since the pipeline days and especially back in the 80s when oil prices dipped. He has taken some pretty bold forward stances on SS/Medicare and some other issues, maybe to atone for the fact that the state is full of gun crazies (I have guns but I don’t use them for a weenie). Even Murkowski has taken a pro-human stance once in a while, which may make her a second target when her term comes up.

“questions concerning the true parentage of her developmentally challenged baby.” Bullwinkle’s lips are sealed.

  8. mucholderguy says:

She doesn’t seriously expect to win. It’s just another celebrity move to get more TV time and sell more of those books with the really big print that conservatives like.

  9. woodroad34 says:

She’s a Barnum and Bailey freak show provacateur–not unlike Manne Coulter. No ideas, just the mangling of logic to get a rise. She’s a squawking parrot with unoriginal ideas. However, I do have a question. Sure she can start a grifter PAC, but aren’t there laws as to how that money is spent? Wouldn’t the IRS come down on her (in my best Melanie Griffith voice) “boney ass” if it was misspent for anything other than a political run–otherwise it’s a ponzi scheme.

  10. James Simms says:

She left the Governors Office how do her voters know she will finish what she starts. She does not have a good track record. Tell her to move her happy ass down the road.

  11. paulabflat says:

are you kidding? sarah palin is mean and low down and she can’t always hide it. no. that’s not quite right. she’s actually bad at hiding it. how else could i have spotted it so easily all the way over here?

  12. ArthurH says:

What else can Sarah Palin do but run for the Senate? All other jobs require skills and talent. How could Palin do a cooking show when the only cuisine she seems to eat are high-fat high-fructose super-size entrées from convenience stores that she devours while dissing Michelle Obama? And her choice of food also will disqualify her for modeling in ads Maidenform control panties even though Tea Party women are the last target market for this product. And that TV pilot where she demonstrated how to field dress a moose went nowhere because Bullwinkle complained that he was more into Brooks Brothers than Urban Lumberjack. Oh well, bus stations still need janitors!

  13. Gary Harmer says:

I’ve pretty much ran out of comments to make about sarah palindrome. I could maybe take up darts and use her picture for something “useful”.

  14. Dave of the Jungle says:

Edith Bunker comes to mind. Well, perhaps I misinterpreted Sarah’s perky demeanor. True, she’s a grifter; not benign.

  15. lynchie says:

I agree, but don’t forget she somehow got elected to be governor in Alaska and that does not say much for the intelligence of the average voter in that fine state.

  16. paulabflat says:

wait a second. dingbats, as a rule, are dim but kindly.
harridan. harpie. succubus. and some other words i can’t use here. but. dingbat?
    uh uh.
    thanks.

  17. paulabflat says:

    you think she KNOWS something?
    wow.

  18. paulabflat says:

    perfect. simple pictures are best.

  19. AnitaMann says:

Not gonna happen. A, it requires real work. And B… well you don’t really need B. She’s selling a book. She’s a grifter.

  20. Most of her base is still clueless about her affair with the Black guy. That is toxic. On top of the FACT that she STILL hasn’t answered Andrew Sullivan’s (et.al.) questions concerning the true parentage of her developmentally challenged baby. Enjoy.

  21. DetroitSam says:

The most important reasons Palin won’t ru7n for the AK Senate seat or even dog catcher:

    1. She is incapable of formulating a coherent policy plan on anything because she is a class A ignoramus.

    2. She would not be able to participate in the debates with the other teabagger candidates in order to win the nomination because she is a class A ignoramus.

    3. She certainely would not be able to participate in the debates with the Democratic candidate because she is a class A ignoramus.

    4. She would have to answer about who gave birth to Trig.

    5. She would have to explain the Toad’s role in offering the prostitution services of women and his own sampling of said services.

I know she was never especially well-liked in Alaska, but statewide
races are decided by the people who show up–witness Jim Inhofe being
elected by a 20% margin 3 times. She could ride Mary Cheney’s coattails
into the Senate on a “the Senate needs more women” slogan. Is there a
credible candidate to oppose her either in the primary or the general?

  23. AdmNaismith says:

She already has a PAC to grift money from for doing nothing. Why put up with the pretense and actual work of running for an office? Palin’s just teasing us…its what she does best.

  24. Monoceros Forth says:

I suppose you’re largely right, though I still suspect that progressing beyond the “exploratory” phase into a real candidacy has additional benefits. It might take “hard work”, as you say, to enter into a proper campaign, but it’s not like Palin herself would be doing any of it.

(Blech, isn’t the whole “exploratory committee” such a farce anyway? But almost everything about major political campaigns is a farce now.)

  25. Dave of the Jungle says:

Running by herself would only expose the fact that she actually has absolutely nothing to say.

  26. Indigo says:

She has found her niche, annoying the NPR audience. It works and the rubes lap it up. And here’s a rrrrasberrrry for her!

  27. Naja pallida says:

So what you’re saying is that she’s pulling a Newt Gingrich? Grift until you can grift no more. Sure beats getting a job!

  28. BeccaM says:

Maybe. But my point is she doesn’t even have to actually run at all. Merely set up a PAC that hints she kinda maybe might be thinking about it.

In today’s post Citizen’s United political landscape, you don’t even have to actually be running for office to make a killing from untracked secret donations.

  29. Monoceros Forth says:

I disagree. I think she might very well make a token “run” because then she can spend all those sweet sweet campaign donation dollars. Yeah, the “exploratory” money is a start, but the longer the run, the more money.

  30. karmanot says:

    The remaking of Alaska’s Moosebutt.

  31. BeccaM says:

She won’t run. It’d take hard work and dedication to something other than her own self-aggrandizement and that quality just isn’t in her.

This flirting with running is just to get her name into the news again, and so the rubes will continue to send her money. The ‘exploratory campaign fund’ is one of the classics among political grifting.

  32. Reasor says:

    7. Teasing funders with the false promise of a campaign and then running off with the donations is exactly the kind of simple fraud that’s within Palin’s wheelhouse.

  33. bkmn says:

    She won’t do it because:

    1. She knows that any elected official can NOT please all the factions of the Teabagger klan
    2. Running for office would cut off lots of revenue streams she currently has in place
    3. Running would open up her past corruption to review
    4. She loves the position she is in now, she can effectively extort other candidates for her endorsement
    5. She is an ego maniac and a run would expose that mania
    6. Does she ever follow through on anything, other than getting in front of another camera?

  34. RepubAnon says:

    Palin / Perry 2016?

  35. usagi says:

Granted she’s a train wreck, but I think people have written her political obituary prematurely too many times.

This assumes that 1) she’ll actually run and 2) that she won’t quit during the campaign.
