One of the most touching gay marriage ads, ever (video)

I stumbled up on this gay marriage ad by accident on YouTube. I was going to watch another video, and an ad came on first, and suddenly it caught my attention. It was from Lambda Legal, about the need to legalize gay marriage in Illinois.

And what a great ad.

It’s rare that anyone sings the praises of any pro-gay ad, though there have been a few were that were just amazing.  But this one is just so warm and fuzzy, and educational, I love it.

The ad showcases a variety of couples – young old, black, white, male, female – and it’s just wonderful. I especially love the two guys who have been together for 50 years.

The gay marriage battle in Illinois had a hiccup recently – reportedly because of problems with state House black caucus and potentially the Latino caucus – but hopefully with ads like this we’ll be able to convince, and/or shame, Democrats (and even some Republicans) to do the right thing.

Great ad. For my Christian friends who try to use the old testament to justify their bigotry, I always say “The god you believe in made these people too.” This is an ad I will show to them and ask them if this is the “evil” they have in mind in bashing gays and opposing marriage equality.

Let me show you some British ads for gays. Those are really touching. “Invisible Parents” and “Homecoming” they work the waterworks.

A SUPER MAJORITY Democrat legislative body, the Illinois State Assembly, showed that they could care less. Still gonna shovel the bucks to ‘em? That GayTM should be temporarily inoperable.

I like the people and what they say!

Be sure you talk to the right people. The choir here already knows! :)

I have to say that this music was really inappropriate. IT WAS NOT THE MESSAGE. :)

Did anyone ever notice in all these horridly produced ads for one thing or another that there are three tracks:
    1. Voice and/or voiceover
    2. Medium tone music track, piano, guitar, cello or orchestra
    3. High tone “music” track, usually percussion or sometimes a high tone instrument.

To me, this sounds more and more like a standard kit. For $500 more, they will give you a crawl as a 4th “track”.

Nice people, but they kinda got slammed by the producers of that ad.

Or if they’re hateful intolerant bigots. Sadly, there are entirely too many of them yet.

Great, except for the manipulative music which is also a point or two too loud. A Jim and Patrick video came up next, thankfully sans background music.
Bachman’s not-running-next-time speech also had background music, which for a political announcement was groundbreakingly tacky.

If they don’t view it. :(

Terrific ad. Made me tear up, too, like so many others.

This is what we need: Ordinary people and their families. Making it known that despite the lack of legal recognition, we are creating these marriages and families anyway — and have been doing so for many decades.

Same-sex marriage is not new at all. The only things new about it are increasing social acceptance and the glacially-slow extension of legal frameworks and protections.

C’mon Illinois: Don’t let the bigots ruin this move toward civil rights equality.

I know James and Patrick and they are a lovely couple. Come on IL get it together. Love this ad so so much :)

  • fritzrth

That is one of the best ads I’ve ever seen for equality in marriage. Drive an old man to tears, would you? B-)

  • kingstonbears

An absolutely amazing ad. How could anyone not be touched by it?

  • Whitewitch

Oh make a girl cry at work – looking like a fool – I love it when I am moved by the reality of the situation and hope others’ whose hearts are hard are softened to the reality of marriage!

  • Zorba

So very beautiful! Love is love. Commitment is commitment. What in the hell can anyone who has any human feeling whatsoever find wrong with that???
Well, I just answered my own question, I guess. The opponents have no human feeling.

    Yep…made me tear up…
