A video inspired by the GOP congressman who said fetuses masturbate

I’d written the other day about the news that Republican Congressman Michael Burgess of Texas says he’s opposed to abortions after 15 weeks or so because that’s the age after which fetuses masturbate.

Oh yes he did.

This is a subject that I do know something about…. There is no question in my mind that a baby at 20-weeks after conception can feel pain. The fact of the matter is, I argue with the chairman because I thought the date was far too late. We should be setting this at 15-weeks, 16-weeks… You watch a sonogram of a 15-week baby, and they have movements that are purposeful. They stroke their face. If they’re a male baby, they may have their hand between their legs. They feel pleasure, why is it so hard to think that they could feel pain?

And what’s worse, Cong. Burgess is an OB/GYN, so in principle he’s supposed to know better.  But this is the party of the “war on science,” so we shouldn’t be surprised when GOP doctors practice what they preach.

After hearing about this story, my good friend Andy Cobb, of Second City fame, sat down with friends last night and whipped up this little video in response to Congressman Burgess’ carnal theories of fetal love.  Be forewarned, you really should not open this video at the office unless you work at Planned Parenthood or NARAL or for Lindsey Graham- in which case, share it with everyone.

this burgess fella is what happens when you have children with your family members, land of the inbred rules the roost

The whatever between the legs of a fetus doesn’t differentiate into penis / scrotum or clitoris / vagina until the 5th month, 20 weeks + (for those who can’t multiply, easily.)

A Congressweasel, no less an OB/GYN, purportedly trained scientifically, opining about a “male” at this age masturbating… No words. Except “GOP GOP GOP!”

“There is no question in my mind that a baby at 20-weeks after conception
can feel pain.” The fact that he believes that a 20 week fetus is a baby is a major red flag. He’s already puting his religious/moral beliefs above his scientific training. If indeed he absorbed the scientific information in the first place.

I’ve seen LOTS of ultrasounds of male fetuses, many with “hands between their legs.” But NONE ever made coordinated, rapid movements suggesting that they were masturbating. Think of a real baby when newborn. Have you ever seen a newborn, or six-monther successfully masturbate?

At least his patients are safe while he’s in Congress sitting on his brain.

  • Same here. The last thing I need is some OB/GYN lying to me because his or her conscience dictates they not give me scientifically accurate information about what’s going on with my body.

What I’ve also noticed is that anti-choice and anti-gay usually go hand-in-hand. (Not always or universally, but almost always.) I’m not going to see any doctor who feels that my marriage is immoral and what I do with my wife is wrong or sinful. Again, how can I possibly trust the judgment of anyone who has concluded that my judgment is not to be respected or valued?

OB/GYNs like him are the reason I always ask whether any physician I consult is pro-choice, before becoming a patient. (I once found out that a female physician was anti-abortion, while she was examining me. That will never happen again.)

  • Having to fake it for decades may explain why GOP women like Marsha Blackburn are so vicious, or really married to their husband wands like Bachmann.

  • They think dementia is god’s word.

Republican congressmen’s expert opinions on sex and pregnancy are always good for a laugh and a disbelieving stare. What a mysterious, magical world it must be inside their brains, with their strange notions about science, medicine, and the nature of the Universe.

  • I still think the funniest thing of all is Burgess apparently doesn’t know that girls and women masturbate, too.

In all likelihood, when his wife assures him that her Hitachi Magicwand is just a neck massage device, he naively believes her.

That he’s an OB/GYN is the mind-boggling part. I’m guessing he’s one of the sorts who believes the female orgasm is a myth, as evidenced by the fact he’s never seen his wife or any of his other female sex partners experience one.

When a fetus masturbates, do the walls of the womb get covered with hair?
