America, please stop caring so much about Amanda Bynes (video)

Yes, another blonde white girl is attracting the attention of the entire nation for all the wrong reasons. Her name is Amanda Bynes.

And, really, none of you should know who she is, let alone care.

But sadly, Amanda Bynes joins the long list of young women who might have done something wrong, killed someone, or even been killed themselves, and about which far too many Americans fixate, and fixate, and fixate.

Well, concerned Bynesians, this PSA is for you.

But before we get to the PSA, I decided to Google News Amanda Bynes, because I didn’t know who she was. And oh, was I in for some joy (I’m personally taken by the quote at the top: “I have no bandage on… it’s healing on its own like my doctor asked.”  I mean, couldn’t that just describe so many of our lives?).

Here’s the actual Google News result for Amanda Bynes. It’s what one might call “as mess”:

Amanda-Bynes

As the PSA says, please America, stop it.  Really.  Stop it.

It took you a month to come up with that response? I wasn’t trying to insult you when I said you lacked the empathy needed to be considered human. I literally believe this is true.

I care about anyone who is suffers from some form of mental illness / addiction and isn’t getting the help they need. Saying, “Stop caring about Amanda Bynes.” is not helping the rest of the people who need help. What this guy should have said is, “Stop exploiting Amanda Bynes’ problems for your own satisfaction.”

  • ComradeRutherford

Someone picks these people at random: Bynes, Gomez, Bieber, etc, and decides to make them famous, then HuffPo puts them all over the front page with headlines like SIDEBOOB!!!! to justify their manufactured fame. In reality, they are talentless hacks, complete creations out of nothing.

I remember during the boy band phase of the 1990s seeing a book (remember those?) in a bookstore (now what were those again?) on the ‘real’ history of the “New Kids On The Backstreet N-Synch Block Boys Edition”. It said they all met in kindergarten singing on the street corners together and worked really, really hard to someday meet the right manager that helped them shape their sound and get a million-to-one shot record deal. I reality, these kids are picked from head shot submissions (just like actors, since that’s what they are anyway) auditioned and tested and switched from group to group until the record company feels they have a sellable product.

And HuffPo is just as bad and any other outlet. It’s bad enough HuffPo has an entire section devoted to SIDEBOOB-grade non-news, but to have it appear on the front page is really over the top and brings down HuffPo’s credibility.

In closing, I just need to say,

    SIDEBOOB!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

“appears to be going through a really tough time”

So are millions of other real human beings. Why is this one special?

  • Butch1

Why would anyone be interested in what this brainless homophobic twit has to say? Take her mirror away and she’ll go hopelessly mad.

  • cole3244

why bother to vote when you have interesting wack jobs like bynes to fill your time, after american idol of course.

  • dddavid

I’ve heard the name mentioned, but has she really been in the news that much? I have no idea who she is. Like that Heidi Montag from a couple of years ago, I started seeing her name mentioned, but had no idea who she was or why people were mentioning her. (I had to look it up. Apparently she was in a reality show, and was pretty, then became a plastic surgery mess.)

Yes they are shallow, but, they are disenfranchised from the economy (few job opportunities), they see their parents laid off and unemployed, they see their parents homes foreclosed upon, they have no respect for Congress, State Government, or local government. They look at Frank Lautenberg who after 30 some years as a congressman had a big accomplishment, he got smoking banned on airplanes. Wow! We are shallow that is the way corporate america wants us. We are told to worry about The Voice, whether Kim K is pregnant, how big her ass is, what talent America’s got, what star can dance or not (they even report it on the evening news). So yes they are shallow but they are a total reflection on the generations that are older. They are told on a daily basis that the way to be a good american is be consumer.not producer.

Well, I can name only one movie in which she acted (basically because I’m a show tune queen), but it’s obvious she is in trouble. She’s at the age where schizophrenia can appear. It’s fine to ignore all this stupid talk about celebrities, but at least allow that she’s hurting.

Whenever I visit the doctor’s office, while waiting I page through US and People magazines. Note I do not say read. One does not read them. One pages through and looks at page after pager after page of women wearing few clothes, or what is supposedly current fashion, and young men with tight abs escorting them. My favorite was the special issue on the Oscars. Nothing about the Oscars, really, but a runway shot of every last woman who attended the rewards, with captions touting the wonder of their attire.

I am always reminded during these paging sessions how totally out of touch with our popular culture I am, and I am always grateful. Very, very grateful.

My point being, John is making some valid commentary on the shallowness of our popular culture. For it is shallow. Sad, and pointless, and ultimately corrupting of the human spirit.

Here’s a reason to care about Amanda Bynes. She’s a real human being. She’s appears to be going through a really tough time and there’s a celebrity gossip industry that is profiting from problems. People caring about Amanda Bynes isn’t he problem, it’s people salivating over each detail waiting for her to get worse.

And why waste a post here?

  • FunMe

    Who is she?

  • Naja pallida

Thanks Chris, you just made me wish the blog had a downvote for posts, and not just comments.

I honestly have no idea who the hell this woman is and in fact have no memory of ever hearing about her.

Stopping caring about her will be rather easy, I think, given I already don’t.
