Weekend cooking – strawberry shortcake (video)

If these guys can do this recipe, anyone can. I love strawberries and the best time to eat them is in the early season. The late season produces the big, tasteless strawberries but the early ones tend to be much better. Be choosy with picking the smaller ones and enjoy spring.

    There will be a run on farms near me in about two or three weeks. Get your cakes and whipped cream ready.

    I remember the Vermont farm days when a 1/3 acre was covered by the tiny white blossoms of wild strawberries. They produced very, small, lusciously sweet berries. We would sit among them and eat them one by one.

    Alas, having just moved this year, our garden remains in the construction phase. Probably take us until next year before we can get a decent strawberry bed started
