Sinkhole in Chicago eats 3 cars, amazing video

Chicago has been having heavy rains, which caused an enormous sinkhole to open up this morning, swallowing three cars.

It’s stunning footage. And I apologize in advance for the autoplay -it seems that WGN, like ABC, hasn’t left the 1990s. Both are interesting videos – the first is the raw video of the car falling in, the second is a local news broadcast with more background on the story – just scroll down and hit the pause button on the one you aren’t watching yet.

WGN has a news broadcast giving more background on the sinkhole:

You can blame those suburbanites for not creating a homeowners association and privatizing that street. That’s what you get for depending on the guvmint.

First thought: I sure hope those people’s car insurance covers this…

Don’t be foolish! There is a perfect valid free market answer to this situation: anyone who finds himself living on a poorly managed street can move to a better managed street run by a competitor.

Seriously, I wonder how many bogus “free market” arguments are based on a completely unrealistic notion of what consumers are actually free to choose.

I’m just getting a big white space instead of a video.

It’s a good thing we’re spending money on our infrastructure! Oh, wait, “common goods” does not exist, only tax breaks for the wealthy.
