Cat-fight between Glenn Beck and Fox News!

Meow! Glenn Beck snapped at Fox News, his former employer, the other day during an appearance at NYU, saying that he needed to leave the network in order to “save his soul.”

“If you stay in it too long, you become Norma Desmond,” Beck said Friday during an appearance at the NYU Stern School of Business, where he accepted a Disruptive Innovation Award from the Tribeca Film Festival. “I remember feeling, ‘If you do not leave now, you won’t leave with your soul intact.’”

The first requirement of losing your soul, Glenn, is having one.

Fox News responded that in fact, Glenn Beck was simply “saving his ass” since his advertisers had abandoned him.

Glenn Beck wasn’t trying to save his soul, he was trying to save his ass. Advertisers fled his show and even Glenn knows what that means in our industry. Yet, we still tried to give him a soft landing. Guess no good deed goes unpunished.

I hate when mommy and daddy fight.

You might recall that even at CNN, Glenn Beck saw his ratings falling.

Then Beck moved to Fox, and the crazy didn’t stop, so his advertisers started leaving following a boycott.  The boycott might have cost Beck – cost Fox – as much as $40 million in lost advertising.

So yeah, I’m going to take a rare stand with Fox News on this one.

I’m still hung up on the “Disruptive Innovation Award.” Are they using the same definition of ‘disruptive’ that I use? What is this an award for? Successfully making people suddenly aware of you by shattering the tranquility? Style points during a tantrum?

Well, whatever it is, sounds like Glenn’s kind of award. Thank God he’s leaving Fox; it freaks me out enough knowing that my Mom believes him to be a credible newscaster and somebody /I/ should be listening to. Now if only we could get rid of the rest of the whackos so there are nothing but sane and intelligent people who don’t make a living by inciting mass panic on a daily basis.

  2. Did I miss something here?

Where are his gold coins, survival backpacks and cucumber seeds needed to survive the imminent UN Agenda 21 takeover of all our 2nd amendment freedoms?

The “man” is a punk…simple as that. He should have his ass kicked every day just for grins. I’d be happy to volunteer if any help is needed …

Wow, does this website also share content with Mellisa Harris Perry?

He’ll feel better after he and Michelle Bachman throw a nice book burning.

Just for the record, no straight man makes a gratuitous reference to Norma Desmond. That’s tantamount to spontaneously breaking into a Judy Garland song.

well, since neither have a soul, they should all sit back, and pop the top on tall cool can of shut the hell up.

  10. Probably one of Carol Burnett’s funniest impersonations. MAAAAAAAAAX!

  11. Well, yeah. Next he’ll be quoting Bette Davis lines.

I love it when they turn on each other.

Thanks, John, for that photograph of Glenn Beck. He looks like he might have been hanging some of the expensive suits that Fox supplied him on wire hangers even though the executives at Fox clearly told him not to do that… ever. I’m sure you can imagine the scene. Glenn Beck may see himself as Norma Desmond, but in the present situation, he more resembles Christina Crawford as a child. But how can you blame the Fox execs? They buy Glenn Beck the most expensive tailored suits, and he treats them like they were some dishrag. I know he looks all weepy in the photograph, but I think Glenn Beck had that spanking coming.

Actually, I was thinking of Carol Burnett’s interpretation of Desmond.

More like Elsa Lanchaster in Bride of Frankenstein.

  18. “Norma Desmond”? Is Glenn Beck admitting he’s an over-the-hill drama queen?

I don’t know why the Sunset Boulevard reference strikes me as so odd. I absolutely adore the movie but for Beck to compare himself to Desmond is just…I don’t know.

glenn, are you related to boehner, aka croc tears.

  20. RepubAnon says:

The two statements are not necessarily mutually contradictory – if Glen Beck keeps his soul in his head, consider where he keeps his head…

  21. Jim Olson says:

waah f’ing waah. Beck needs to just go away.
