Santa Monica high school blows Fred Phelps out of the water with mega-protest (video)

Rev. Fred “God Hates F-gs” Phelps was protesting Santa Monica High School in Santa Monica, California this morning.

The Phelps’ made the trip to California for the Oscars, but since they were already there, they decided to picket a high school too.

Here’s a great shot of the pro-gay high school students protesting against Fred Phelps’ protest – it’s a panorama I created by grabbing shots from the YouTube video and stringing them together. The actual protest line went even longer to the right side of the image.

    Samo High, dear old Samo High…

    Those idiots should’ve known better than to tell anybody they were coming.

    Samo High is one of the, if not the most diverse, large high schools in the country. By that it derives uncommon power. It’s a power house high school on many levels. At Samo High they know whats what. And it’s right in the middle of one of the most diverse, progressive areas in the country. Which by that also derives uncommon power. The westside is an economic, social, creatuve powerhouse. The westside is the bomb. That’s why everybody and their mother wants to live here. I’m not surprised we cleaned their clock.

    OMG, that a few blocks from where I live! Had I not been at work, I would definitely have been there supporting “Samo” … aka Santa Monica High School, which is where the kids from the movie “Rebel without a Cause” kids attended. Yup, Natalie Wood and James Dean.

    I came close to living at the building where the hateful Westboro hateful people (all 6 of them) were standing. The school is only 7 blocks from the beach. There is NO way those hateful bigots would have been able to overtake those at Santa Monica because we are all about LOVE and acceptance of everyone who comes in peace. GREAT job to everyone at the march!

    I live directly across the street from Samo High, and got woken up this morning at 7 a.m. by chants and cheers.

    Which, when I realized the kids were protesting the Phelps, just made my day. Unfortunately, you can’t see all the signs because they had two lines of protest on the sidewalk in front of the school — the kids on the outside with their backs to the street (and the Phelps across the street) — don’t know whose idea that was, because passing cars could see the Phelps’, but not the signs from the kids.

    Although there were enough rainbow flags to make their point.

      True, but one of the most addictive emotions for us humans is to feel righteously judgmental, which is why very few of the organized religions have given it up or urged their adherents to follow the more humble path.
