Sandy Hook caused by gays, says #1 GOP religious right leader James Dobson

Well if #1 Republican religious right leader James Dobson wants to point fingers about who inspires the kind that can lead to a mass murder of children such as at Sandy Hook, let’s compare how many of James Dobson’s friends versus how many of my friends run officially-designated hate groups.

James Dobson is going to win that contest, hands down.

Dobson, on the radio yesterday, talking about the Sandy Hook Elementary massacre:

Our country really does seem in complete disarray. I’m not talking politically, I’m not talking about the result of the November sixth election;  I am saying that something has gone wrong in America and that we have turned our back on God.

I mean millions of people have decided that God doesn’t exist, or he’s irrelevant to me and we have killed fifty-four million babies and the institution of marriage is right on the verge of a complete redefinition.  Believe me, that is going to have consequences too.

And a lot of these things are happening around us, and somebody is going to get mad at me for saying what I am about to say right now, but I am going to give you my honest opinion: I think we have turned our back on the Scripture and on God Almighty and I think he has allowed judgment to fall upon us.  I think that’s what’s going on.

James Dobson

Religious right leader James Dobson.

Let’s think about what’s more likely to inspire the kind of hate and violence we saw at Sandy Hook: two people in love trying to settle down and marry and start a family, or some old white guy spending all his time and energy spouting lies about an entire class of Americans in an effort to kill love.

There are a lot of reasons America is a violent country, and I’m convinced that some of that violence, or at the least the culture of violence, is created by religious right hate groups that inspire so many to hate in God’s name.  And there’s been a lot of violence tied to God in the past and present – and it almost always ends up not being God who’s behind the violence, but some very messed up men who claim to speak for God, and don’t.

So when James Dobson talks about how gay couples getting married, among other things, caused God to let children be shot to death at Sandy Hook Elementary, and when former Republican presidential candidate Mike Huckabee appears to suggest that the dead children’s parents and school are in some way responsible for a gun-nut mass-murdering their children because the school didn’t start the day with prayer, or because they taught the first graders about evolution, all I can have is pity on some men who are either too old, too hateful, or too stupid to realize what a complete ass they’ve become.

James Dobson’s God mass-murders young children in order to stop love.

That should tell you all you need to know about James Dobson, and the Republican party who idolizes this man.

Well, it was only a matter of time before something this offensive came out of his mouth. Huckabee skirted around it but you just knew that he wanted to say just that. Immediately after 9/11, liberals were blamed by these types for the fact that the attack succeeded. The adherence to requirements for warrants, and pesky civil liberties laws were to blame. Law enforcement was hamstrung by out unreasonable demands that protected only the guilty and malign. Of course, the truth was something different. The man they had insisted on installing in the presidency even though he lost the popular vote and probably the electoral vote as well if they had bothered to count it honestly, was warned all spring and summer long by the CIA that just such an attack was coming. They informed Bush of everything but the day and time. He did nothing and left the country defenseless until it was all over but the crying. And what I would say to them about this is what I would say to them about 9/11. YOU VOTED FOR THIS. You voted for a president (Reagan) who gutted mental health facilities in this country. You voted to fill the streets and make available to just about ANYONE weapons that were designed for military assault. Not self defense. No deer hunting. Military assault. You fostered this. You encouraged it and you VOTED for it. I’m not looking ‘over there’, I’m looking at YOU!

I agree. It’s their place in life to be a royal pain in the arse. What is unfortunate is they depend upon the money of hard working people who fall for their flim-flam act, buying the idea that if they are good little boys and girls and listen to these blowhards and give them money, they will pay their way into “heaven” where the “streets are paved in gold and there are feasts served at every meal and you will live in a mansion etc etc etc.”

This baloney is dished out to the poor and weak minded so they will buy it and follow these evil hucksters pushing this tripe. Then they have the nerve to go after us and make us the whipping-boy or scape-goat so they can draw in more money from their marks.

Sorry, Servetus – you need to study history.
I suggest you start with the Crusades, but also look into the 30 Years War, the Inquisition, and persecution of Hugenots, Pilgrims, Anabaptists, and etc. during the Reformation. Christians have been slaughtering others and each other since the beginning. You should read some of Martin Luther’s work to learn about pervasive anti-semitism that flavored 20th century atrocities.
And don’t try to go “They were not true christians ™” on me. Own it.

  • nkd

I don’t believe that I DO live hat way. I believe that Dobson, Fischer, Perkins, and those who believe them DO, however, live that way. It appears that you may be one who supports their views. What i DO find fascinating is that “christians” seem to be so willig to judge. And when they try to justify that, they cherry-pick scripture to support that “narrow world view” I mentioned. God and Christ did NOT believe in being exclusive. You do know that, po, don’t you? Please tell me that you know that.

  • jomicur

Your point would be perfectly relevant if the four gospels were merely supposed to be four human accounts of something, either first- or second-hand. But we are told they were in fact authored by God, with the four evangelists merely his agents. In other words, they purport to be by a single infallible author–who evidently couldn’t get his facts straight.

He couldn’t even come up with stories that check out when compared to other sources. For instance, the gospels claim that on a certain Friday afternoon during the reign of Tiberius, a substantial portion of the Middle East was plunged into darkness and the dead came out of their tombs. Yet no one at all seems to have noticed that except the gospel writers. There were scientists in the 1st century, several of them very keen observers of the natural world. Pliny the Elder, for instance, was tireless at searching out reports of comets, eclipses and other “natural prodigies” as they were called then. Yet neither he nor any other writer (including ones who lived in the region, such as Josephus) says a word about anything of the sort happening. That something that monumental could have occurred yet gone unnoticed and un-remarked upon is flat-out incredible.

Add to that the fact that even most Christian scholars concede that the gospels weren’t written for decades after the events they claim to record, and they are all but completely useless as historical records.

  • Butch1

Like that would do it. I remember seeing one of my uncles when I was small and we were in the restroom at the “community trough.” All I could think of was that he was huge and that was that. I didn’t become straight from the experience. This charlatan certainly IS one. ;-)

  • Butch1

    So you say.

  • Butch1

Oh, I disagree. God is an invisible sky faerie made up by people like yourself so you will have something to worship. Go read some of the older religions and you will find where the Virgin Birth came from and Noah’s Flood story and a whole bunch of other stories that were lifted from them and put in what you call today’s bible. ( if you are brave enough ) Of course your holy men do not want you to do that because you might prove them to be liars and charlatans. But that is up to you. If you want to believe in this made up stuff, far be it from me to change your mind. ;-)

This is one sick F**k and I’m getting sick and tired of these religious charlatans constantly blaming us for every horrible thing that happens in this country. This is not what we need to hear during these times of sadness from people who are supposed to represent so-called “christians” and good people. This man is pure evil to have said anything such as this. He should go back and at least read this Commandment from his Christian Bible he is so fondly claiming to represent:

” Thou Shalt Not Bear False Witness Against Thy Neighbor.”

Or does this one not apply to this buffoon?

  • http://www.facebook.com/monoceros.forth Monoceros Forth

I’ve always thought it amusing that the existence of inconsistencies between the accounts of Matthew, Mark, Luke and John are taken to be proof that they’re made up. If they were made up, wouldn’t they be more likely to match in all respects? It’s actual stories that don’t match up with each other in real life. Hell, nobody really knew if Titanic broke into two pieces before sinking or not before the wreck was actually found and there were hundreds of eyewitnesses.

  • http://www.facebook.com/monoceros.forth Monoceros Forth

I’m not sure this message is going to win any converts. “When you masturbate God kills a kitten” might have been a good sick joke but as a recruitment tool to Christianity it’s a non-starter.

  • WP

James Dobson is not the “Pope” nor is he the representative for all Christianity. It is a shame that the voices of those really trying to find common ground are not heard due to the shouting of polarized extremists. How can anyone claim to have love when they demonize anyone else? I AM a Christian and I Am pro-life and I am pro POST born. I am not perfect and I am also not God, thus I do not expect perfection from anyone else. What I would like though is a little more, no, a LOT more civility on both sides of the discussion. Divisive language serves only to divide, it will not produce faith, love, compassion or peace.

  • Randy

I find these comments encouraging, actually. They are losing the culture war that they themselves declared two decades ago. They know it, too. They are now desparete to do anything to try to reverse their losses and this is what they do — spread vicious lies that are so bizarre you don’t know whether to laugh or cry.

They are in their “death throes” and we can expect more of the same, and probably even worse in the coming years. But that’s good, because it doesn’t win any converts to their cause, but rather shows them as out of touch looney tunes. They are discrediting themselves without even knowing it. I suspect many of their followers are now wondering about their sanity as well.

The more hysterical they get, they more they show their true colors, and they more they turn off anyone with a modicum of intelligence and thought. It will only help our side win faster.

What a lucky coincidence for Dobson that his god has the same prejudices as he does.

Thank goodness my religious instruction has always been centered around a “don’t throw stones if you live in a glass house — and we ALL live in glass houses” type of message.

It seems to me that Dobson and his ilk seem to relish the coming of each disaster. I can picture them high-fiving each other every time a hurricane levels a city or some nut slaughters innocents by the dozens. It’s their “opportunity” (the same kind of mentality Romney had regarding the Benghazi non-troversy) to appear to be holier-than-thou….and cash a few checks.

No, but if I claimed I can walk on water or believed that someone else can, I’d likely end up in one of the better mental hospitals. Neighbor,
I would agree with Dr. Dobsons assessment more readily than yours . You are here insinuating thingsthat are first.of all just not true or even close to accurate but that also definitely fall within the parameter of hate that you so ostensibly and duplicitously deplore. You deny violence or an increase is associated with the breaking away from moral and religious norms yet that is at the very least a obvious correlations which if studied further, which I’m sure you really wouldn’t want would probably show a direct link. Was this man motivated by love for Christ and purity to kill as je did? Certainly not and would most mass murderers be religious sincere God believing and fearing Christians?Again no. Also all the crimes.committed and rapes and robberies are they committed by religious church going folk of the sincere kind? You and I both know they are not but in a way all of these acts can be looked upon as atheists acts, in fact any acts committed that are contrary to the clear injunctions of the said religion could be and should be considered atheistic . This would include gay marrage. Altogether all these behaviors and acts have something in common they are contradictory to to the Christian way and rule and they have a latent atheism and denial of truth reality and God about them. They are close to what the bible calls highhanded deliberate sins. If you really want to compare the behavior of Christina with non bring it on, you will lose every time and in a big way. We can begin with all the wars of the 20th century if you like and then move on to crime and what motivates most people to crime and violence, is it the feat of God or love of God or lack thereof.

  • Mike_in_the_Tundra

True, but I feel very powerful.

  • Sally

This is the guy who wrote a book about rebellious children and encouraged parents to beat them. My SIL and BIL had a very intelligent child who questioned every rule, pushed boundaries, opened locked doors at 2, and taught himself to read at three because Mom lied to him about what was on TV (true story.) She also lied and told him his birthday cake was poison to keep him from sticking his finger in the icing. He proved her wrong every time she lied. But Dobson’s book influenced their thinking, and he was dragged to church every Sunday until he was out of high school. Then instead of letting him choose a college, THEY chose tiny Grove City, PA, because they take no federal money, which means they are 98% white, do not participate in government loans, and all the students are, supposedly, Christian. He and his brothers all graduated. They were into basketball, and quite good, but not one lasted past one year, as they didn’t ‘get along with’ the coach. Not one boy is married. Only one has had a girlfriend. Three of them live together in a house built by a cousin, but they lived at home into their late 20′s. Oh, and they spend their weekends at a bar. So much for all that religious training, huh, Dr. Dobson?
I am a Christian, but my kids also do not attend church any more. My grandkids went to Christian preschools in Texas (not sure there are any other kind there) but the oldest is in public school. They pray there.
I think what is going on is that these guys see the support for their ‘my way or hell’ thinking disappearing. People are better educated, busier, and have no time to be preached to about someone else’s thinking on God. They have two jobs, the kids are in a lot of activities, and they’d rather LIVE their beliefs than listen to someone tell them what’s wrong with them. Dobson and his ilk are finished, and like Sarah Palin, scrambling to stay in the news and keep bringing in cash. Good luck with that. You are all shysters, and do not speak for God.

Two thoughts here: First, the “pro-lifers” are more interested in the PRE-born than the POST-born. This simply illustrates their true nature. They don’t give a damn about life. If they did they would not be bring abortion into a conversation on how to protect the already born children. And secondly, Dobson, Bryan Fisher and a myriad of smalltime “ministers” looking for their 15 minutes of fame are putting Westboro Baptist out of business. The only difference is that WBC uses neon sign and are not dressed as well.
