East coast transportation shuts down ahead of Sandy, more images

Airlines and public transportation in the northeast have shut down as Sandy is expected to reach the New Jersey coast Monday morning.

On Sunday, the airlines canceled over 7000 flights in the northeast due to the oncoming storm and that trend will continue. Public transportation has closed in Washington, DC, Philadelphia, New Jersey and New York City. The SEC has also closed trading on Wall Street for Monday as well.

If you don’t have to go outside (and who really wants to with a storm like this?) you shouldn’t. It’s best to leave the roads free for emergency services as there’s a high likelihood of power lines being down, among other storm related problems.
