The haters were out in full force in Maryland today, including NOM’s Maggie Gallagher. Funny thing about Maggie Gallagher. She zips around the country talking to reporters and to state legislatures about the evils of same-sex marriage. She was in Maryland today:
After an hour, the committee switched to opponents and will continue to alternate as it makes its way through dozens of scheduled witnesses today. The audience has spilled over into a second viewing room.Pastors, lawyers and the chairwoman of the National Organization for Marriage were among the opponents to testify this afternoon. “Most of my adult relationships are untouched by the law,” said Maggie Gallagher, chairwoman of the National Organization for Marriage. Of heterosexual marriage, she said, “these are the only unions that create new life.”
But, Maggie didn’t testify under oath at the Prop. 8 trial because as David Boies said:
“But when they come into court and they have to support those opinions and they have to defend those opinions under oath and cross-examination, those opinions just melt away. And that’s what happened here. There simply wasn’t any evidence, there weren’t any of those studies. There weren’t any empirical studies. That’s just made up. That’s junk science. It’s easy to say that on television. But a witness stand is a lonely place to lie. And when you come into court you can’t do that.
Give Maggie a mike where she doesn’t have to take an oath and can’t be cross-examined and she’ll spew her junk science and venomous lies.
Also, I hope everyone in Maryland noted that Maggie seemed to indicate that marriage was only for people who procreate. Don’t think she only wants to control same-sex marriages.
