And he’s from the conservative south. I’ve often asked Spaniards how, in a Catholic country like Spain, gay marriage could become the law of the land. Same question goes for Italy.

I’d settle for a(n openly) gay American cabinet secretary. Or just any senior policy person at the White House. The world is passing us by. It’s sad. And more evidence that we’re not as “number one” as we either thought, or perhaps once were.
