Santorum says SecDef Gates and Chairman of Joint Chief Mullen are brainwashed by political correctness

Former uber-conservative Republican Senator Rick Santorum, not to be confused with the other Santorum, said this morning at the conservative CPAC conference that Secretary of Defense Gates and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs Mullen have been so “indoctrinated” into “political correctness” that they can’t “see straight.” He was referring to their recent support for lifting the military’s anti-gay Don’t Ask Don’t Tell policy.

Addressing how the military leadership, led by Joint Chiefs of Staff Chairman Mike Mullen, could now favor a repeal of the law, Santorum raised the specter of brainwashing.

“Political correctness is reigning in the military right now,” he said. “”Some people say: [Do] whatever the generals say [on DADT]. I’m not too sure that we haven’t so indoctrinated the officer corps in this country that they can actually see straight to make the right decision.”

Santorum, who once famously brought a dead baby home to meet his children, is now a bigger expert on the military than the SecDef and the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs. You’re going to see these attacks on the military leadership continue, and grow, so long as the White House refuses to move ahead with repealing the ban this year. And while the WH has talked a good talk about moving ahead, and HRC claims they are, Democrats on the Hill say it’s not true.

More on the creepy dead-baby incident from the NYT magazine:

What happened after the death is a kind of snapshot of a cultural divide. Some would find it discomforting, strange, even ghoulish — others brave and deeply spiritual. Rick and Karen Santorum would not let the morgue take the corpse of their newborn; they slept that night in the hospital with their lifeless baby between them. The next day, they took him home. ”Your siblings could not have been more excited about you!” Karen writes in the book, which takes the form of letters to Gabriel, mostly while he is in utero. ”Elizabeth and Johnny held you with so much love and tenderness. Elizabeth proudly announced to everyone as she cuddled you, ‘This is my baby brother, Gabriel; he is an angel.’ ”
