Top 10 AMERICAblog stories of 2009

Just for fun, I decided to look through our records to find the 10 most read stories on the blog in 2009. One of them, interestingly, wasn’t even written this year. Here’s our list. And just fyi, our number ten most-read story of the year was actually our 2005 story on Jeff Gannon (oddly). So I included #11 as well (which would be the tenth-most-read story we’ve WRITTEN this year):

1. 182,129 readers: Obama defends DOMA in federal court. Says banning gay marriage is good for the federal budget. Invokes incest and marrying children.

2. 111,681 readers: RNC Web site promoting anti-Semitic, anti-Latino, and pornographic literature

3. 57,618 readers: Teabaggers attack Holocaust survivor Elie Wiesel

4. 54,342 readers:Baucus & Conrad cave again, toughen health care bill’s anti-immigrant provisions to appease Joe “You lie!” Wilson

5. 51,896 readers: AIDS activists shut down US Capitol rotunda over Obama reversal on AIDS policy

6. 41,960 readers: Obama DOJ lies to Politico in defending hate brief against gays.

7. 38,200 readers: Did the Mormons baptize Obama’s mother, after her death, without his knowledge or consent?

8. 35,641 readers: Whole Foods comes out against health care reform, calls it “socialism”.

9. 33,160 readers: Funny, Bill O’Reilly didn’t think gay marriage was wrong in 2002.

10. (2005) 29,875 readers: A man called Jeff.

11. 25,135 readers: My whopping $32 emergency room visit in the land of socialized medicine.

(Also, when I give the number of “readers” below, that figure is actually the number of “page views,” for any geeks out there.)

I notice that SC Rep. Joe “You Lie” Wilson is not among these ten; at the time, I thought you had blown a fuse. Apparently, AmericaBlog owes Wilson an apology. Or, do Democrats and Republicans alike have no standards?

It must pain you to have to continually come back to this blog all this year. Why do you bother? Many others who come here would disagree with your assessment. You’re welcome to your opinion, but, if this is how you feel, perhaps, you should move along to those sites you prefer instead of hanging around here.

It certainly has been a busy year on A-Blog! ;-)

If the Obama DOMA story truly is the top read story on your blog then you have done a true injustice, considering how just plain wrong you were with respect to that story. Oh wait, I forgot – you and Joe “are lawyers,” so you cannot possibly be incorrect (at least that’s what your rationale was).

Your “gotcha” stories over the past year have really kept you a step behind the true netroots and have made you no better than the MSM.

  • FYI

Yeah, although page views may indicate less readers, don’t forget that thousands of readers (like myself) use an RSS reader, so you probably have *more* readers than that :)

I found this site because of the Jeff Gannon story. Wow, I can’t believe it’s been five years

  • John Aravosis

Thank you :-) I’m almost embarrassed that that story keeps coming up!

What a blast from the past. Thank you. You’ve reminded me that the Jeff Gannon story was how I stumbled upon AmericaBlog 4 years ago. You all have continued to give me a cogent, sane platform from which to view the insane political shit that hits our fans. I just sent a donation toward the Christmas bonuses. You all deserve it more than anyone else I know, in thanks for four years of GREAT reading and all the inside info.

    Happy New Year!

1, 5, and 6 are some of the reasons that I will not vote for Obama in the future. The DNC called yesterday for an end of year contribution and I told them to go pound sand.

No more $$ or votes for any of these people. FINI!

That is my New Year resolution.

  • Ritorna Vincitor

And it was story number 1 that killed my enthusiasm for Obama. Hard to believe that was six months ago.

  • Griffon

I was disturbed by the alacrity with which the Mary Matalin assault story was buried by the MSM.

If someone isn’t in tears every day, that day wasn’t all it could be advancing the campaign. I once witnessed an experienced (big) man slap a professional female colleague across the face over an ad buy… and no one thought anything of it, starting with the woman. In fact, she would have been insulted if anyone told her she should have been insulted.

There was no follow-up, no prying investigation, nothing.
